  1. Hi. I've been posting here today, attempting to troubleshoot a major freezing issue I had. I've attempted what troubleshooting lists told me and what users here and other places told me to do and the situation has degraded to the point I don't want to fix my PC but just want to know which part I can't sell. I'm running am AMD FX-8320, 8Gb DDR3 1600 RAM, an Asus M5A97 Le R2.0, an EVGA GTX 1060 6Gb SSC and an Antec TruePower Quattro 1000W. I had major freezing issues where the whole PC would just freeze and require a restart to only freeze again after. We thought it was a GPU driver issue so I managed to uninstall the drivers, restart, then it froze, and ever since, I can't even force shutdown my PC after I turn it on. (Meaning I turn it on, it doesn't post, and holding the power button never turns it off, I have to cut the power to it via my PSU power switch) I plugged in a speaker from another case and I can't get any error codes, it's not doing anything and I know for a fact it works fine. I unplugged everything gradually to the point I only had my CPU on the board too. I basically can't get anything out of it. I know the GPU is not the cause since I tried a different 1060 and it still didnlt work. I also tried them both on a second PCIe port. It degraded quickly, but when the freezing wasn't too quick, I managed to run tests, HDD and RAM are good. I had multiple Process Explorer instances opened when it froze once, didn't show anything abnormal, no extreme usage of any component showed, all very normal idle data... My guess is that the motherboard is dead, and it wouldn't surprise me, however, there are possibilities it could be the CPU or the PSU too. Based on this and any further information requested, which of those is dead? I wished to upgrade my PC soon anyway but I want to sell the functionning replaced parts. Thanks
  2. They are plugged in correctly and used to work. Reinstalling 1060 drivers as of now, i got to uninstalling. Currently, I have switched GPU to see if it was the problem and trie the second PCIe port, which didnt change anything...
  3. I know, I just dont want to kill everything. I still cant even get post tho. I also switched the GPU, same issue, gonna try next slot...
  4. I was troubleshooting a previous issue and attempted to fix a driver by deleting and reinstalling it. I restarted a couple of times but now, I turned it on and the monitor doesn't receive anything, nor any peripherals. I tried turning it off, but even holding the power button doesnt turn it off... What do i do? Thread:
  5. It's a soon to be replaced FX-8320, no internal graphics. The computer completely freezes abd the HDD activity light stops, the computer basically just dies when it happens. The longest I got it running was 25 mins.
  6. Hi, i posted a thread on troubleshooting today. Basically, my PC freezes randomly after I restart it, the longest I could get it to run was about 25 mins. Some suggest it may be due to the GPU's driver in my situation. Thing is, my case makes it so that there is no way I can delete/fix/install drivers before the PC dies... My GPU is an EVGA GTX 1060 6GB SSC So, is there a way I could fix my driver situation, that is, using an external interaction/USB drive? If not, any suggestions on how to proceed? Here is the link to my other thread: Thanks
  7. Currently away for an hour or so, but I'll try this. Which drivers do you think might be causing the issue? The only recent change was the GPU test I described. It freezes when only 1 monitor, a keyboard and a mouse are plugged in. The GPU has been acting up since the GPU test too, whilst playing The Witcher 3 on med-high settings, task manager only showed minimal GPU usage even tho it should've shown it quite active.
  8. Time doesnt change and the image on screen is the last one generated before the freeze. It's as freezy as freezing gets
  9. Actually, I havn't messed with component reseating yet. I'll do it now, but it's since my last GPU died while I was reseating my RAM during troubleshooting. I'll edit this comment when I have the results. Thanks! The PSU is 1000 W and has been working perfectly ever since I got it. I have a couple other spare PSUs that I could test too later if needed, but rn, I'll test RAM and GPU reseating. Edit: looking promising. I only plugged in 1 monitor and mouse and keyboard and absolutely nothing else. It hasnt frozen yet and been running for 15 mins which is better than before. I'll update soon again Edit 2: IT FROZE. I started running sfc /scannow to check for system file issues, whcih the PC didn't manage to even start last time. It'sbeen running for ~30 mins and got to 78% on the scan and froze again. Reseating seemed to help, but it still froze. Better than the 15 seconds I was getting tho... Interesting fact, even since everything in the case is still running, the HDD activity light is not showing any activity... Idk if internals and fan speeds also freeze on their last "order" and that the HDD light is correctly showing actual activity, that is everything stopped, or if it's the HDD... It's very recent tho.
  10. GPU drivers were up to date. I never messed with drivers too much but there were no significant recent chanfes to my peripherals or components. I have a Razer Ornata that works fine and is recognized correctly and an LG Prometheus that seems fine too... My internal lights are simple powered lights, no controller or mobo connections. Idk if this is what you meant, if not, clarify and I'll answer. But yes, I'm pretty certain drivers are not to blame, but it's not a 100%... Edit: even if it was, I can't keep my PC running long enough to do basically anything, I can get to login and get to my desktop, but I'm lucky if I count to 10 until it freezes again... As I said, every restart, it happens faster than the last time.
  11. Hi, my PC started freezing up yesterday (not micro-freezing, like, time doesn't change and I need to restart). Currently, it's unusable as everytime I restart it, after I login, I happens faster than the last time. I've been planning an upgrade in about 2-3 months so I'm doing it now instead but I wish to sell the replaced parts, thing is, I need to know which one is failing and, hence, not for sale. I managed to have multiple instances of Process Explorer opened on one of the freezes, so there should be a lot of data there. Specs: CPU: AMD FX-8320, no manual overclock, but BIOS optimized it (~4GHz). Age unknown, but >2yh. No prior signs of failure. CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO with 2 fans. Ambient temp is usually 22°C this time of year. CPU Rarely/Never overheated. RAM: 8Gb (2x4Gb) of DDR3 1600Hz very average Samsung RAM. Windows RAM check didn't find any issues with them. Mobo: Asus M5A97 LE R2.0. Likely same age as CPU. No signs of damaged components nor any burning smell. Very old BIOS version (~2015) but when I had gotten it, I attempted to update the BIOS to find it was no longer supported, this seemingly is the most recent BIOS for it. GPU: EVGA GTX 1060 6Gb SSC. No overclocking. No signs of damaged components nor any burning smell. Drivers were up to date. PSU: Antec TruePower Quattro 1000W. No burning smell. HDD: 1Tb WD Blue drive. ~1yh. chkdsk didn't find any bad sectors or issues with it. I have suspicions of the causes, so here are 2 recent events that might be of interest: ~4 days prior, I was working on Unity3D and used a tool that killed my PC in the same way (complete freeze requiring restart) twice, not due to hardware but because I used it in a retarded manner (if interested, I used Object2terrain and set terrain res to 6144). I stopped using it after and no further issues occured. ~2 days prior, I got a deal on an Asus GTX 1060 3Gb and wanted to test it. I switched my current GPU with it and tried to boot to which my internal lights and fans momenterally turned on and instantly turned off, obviously I had managed to mess it up. When trying to quickly revert to the old GPU, I noticed I managed to plug the 6-pin connector the wrong way around, since the EVGA and Asus power connectors seem to be reversed and I didn't notice it. Pluging it correctly made the new GPU work correctly. Afterwards, I plugged back in the old GPU and everything worked fine. I also updated its drivers. When it happened the first time, I was playing The Witcher 3. A second and third time, whilst watching youtube videos and all others, a minute or less after logging in and with no apps open. On the third freeze, I managed to have multiple instances of Process Explorer opened, 1 monitoring CPU usage, another RAM usage, and one showing a graph of each individual monitored parts' usage. See linked images. When the computer freezes, it never showed a BSoD. I ran a full check with Malwarebytes that found nothing either. When it freezes, all peripheral lights and internal lights and fan keep functionning normally/as they were when it froze. Bluethoot connection still holds too. With this information, or any other requested, I wish to have help finding the culprit so I can sell the other components whilst being sure they work correctly. If it may be helpful, I'm aiming to sell the CPU, mobo, PSU and RAM, and if it's one of these, which I think likely, I just wont sell it. Thanks for any and all input. This instance monitored RAM in descending order (Working Set = RAM). The only active process was watching a vid on youtube via firefox. This instance was monitoring CPU usage in descending order. Same task as the first image These images were taken after the computer froze. I was certain it did as no peripherals worked and time didn't change. I have other, but less important, pictures but it goes past the 20Mb limit...
  12. Im not aware of what this is, could you give me details or some articles?
  13. Well I saw an article from 2016 where they managed trough some DX12 foncttionnality, though Idk how to do so. Trough this, they figured out 2 1060s can compare to a single 1080. https://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/2519-gtx-1060-sli-benchmark-in-ashes-multi-gpu
  14. The ever denied and shamed case of trying to SLI 2 GTX 1060 has fallen upon me. I happen to now be the owner of 2 different perfectly fonctionning GTX 1060 and I wish them to work together. I am fully aware that 1060s cant be connected trough SLI and that the price to buy 2 would surpass a single 1080, but I got the first full price (EVGA 6BG SSC) and the second for 80$ (Asus 3GB, the white one). I am hence in a case I could benefit in getting them to work together, I think. So the question: how would I go to do this? Any suggestions, ideas and so forth will be appreciated and tried until I can be successful. If it doesn't work, I'll just put the second one on productivity load so dont worry about me. Thanks for any input!
  15. AUD are worth almost as much as CAD (1 CAD= 1.04 AUD) but thanks again. I'll prolly use this list for now since it also includes this neat monitor. If I need anymore help, I'll come back here for certain. As for G-Sync, now I see it in better perspective. It, indeed, does not look 300$ better, so I don't think I'll get one... Thank you, aswell as @ATFink, for helping me, this forum is great! Thx again! Edit: I found a monitor I prefered with a similar price, seems very good: https://m.newegg.com/products/N82E16824475016
