  1. Well this is a new problem I have encountered in a long time. Basically the fingerprint sensor on my laptop is acting weird. I enroll my fingerprint ok it works. I lock my laptop using Windows Key + L and it works. When I shutdown the system the sensor works. When my wake my laptop from sleep it works. But, as soon as I hit restart to do some updates or for program installation, it stops working. And then I have to re-enroll my fingerprint for it to work back again. So, I tried enrolling 2 fingerprints this time and as usual the same troubleshooting. Works on shutdown and sleep. But, when I hit restart the sensor stops working but this time, if 2 fingers are enrolled it refuses to accept one fingerprint and accepts the other fingerprint and logs me into windows. Like I enrolled the fingerprint of my 2 index fingers and as soon as I hit restart, the right hand index finger fingerprint was refused by Windows Hello and it accepted the left hand fingerprint. And if I hit restart again, both the fingerprints are gone and then I have to again enroll my fingerprints in Windows Hello. And if I go into settings, it shows me the fingerprint is already enrolled but it refuses to log me into windows using my fingers Weird issue but if someone could help me get this thing sorted out. Tried reinstalling the drivers from Asus no luck, tried reinstalling the drivers from windows update no luck there. Followed the driver installation guide on Asus's site no luck there. Reinstalled windows no luck there. Fingerprint sensor worked well on the 21H1 update of Windows 10 but now it just refuses to work without any updates done. If someone could help me out get this mess sorted out. System Specs: - Asus Vivobook 15 X512FL Intel Core I7 8565U 16GB DDR4 Ram 512GB NVMe + 1TB SATA SSD NVidia GeForce MX250 2GB GDDR5 Graphics Intel UHD 620 Graphics ELAN WBF Fingerprint Sensor
  2. And yes. my cpu turbos to the advertised 4.6GHz and it remains perfectly cool staying under 50C all times after the service uninstall. Before this, the CPU would touch 60C to 70C sometimes 80C while doing nothing. But, now the laptop is cool and doesnt heat up during charging. It was i guess windows service scheduler that was causing all this
  3. I did not try this until now. I unplugged my laptop from the AC adapter and opened task manager and resource monitor. It was this services and control application screwing things. On battery power this thing would consume 5 to 10% of my cpu but the heating would not be there. However, as soon as i plug my laptop to AC power, this service would consume almost 20 to 40% of my cpu thus causing this overheating. I then narrowed it down to MySQL causing this problem and as soon as i uninstalled MySQL, the laptop overheating stopped completely. But, then it is still very very inconvenient for me as i had to use MySQL and show my teacher this assignment she had given to show linking of MySQL database to Python. So, yeah. Uninstalled the MySQL service and then my laptop overheating stopped completely.
  4. Tried it but its of no use same problem then it was windows screwing things up
  5. I have a Asus Vivobook X512FL laptop with this weird issue. While charging and the high perfomance mode while charging, it touches 60C-70C while basically doing nothing. I use this laptop mainly for my engineering studies and i deal with programming on this laptop. When the system is idling, the cpu still manages to touch 60C or sometimes above while charging. But, this issue is non existent when the laptop is running on battery power. I always open up the laptop for cleaning the fans of dust and the heatsink fins but never removed the heatsink. Specs:- Intel Core i7 8565U 16GB DDR4 ram 512GB NVMe SSD and 1TB Crucial MX500 SSD NVidia Geforce MX250 2GB graphics. While basically doing nothing and on charge, the CPU manages to touch 60C while in some cases the CPU reaches 67C-70C. I have tried using cooling pads also but its of no use. This issue in not there on battery power. As soon as i connect the AC adapter for charging, the CPU reaches 60C while doing nothing. Sometimes it would go above that. So, what is causing this issue as i have tried everything. A fresh windows install. Cleaning the laptop fans and heatsink. But, it seems to be useless
  6. Yeah. Contacted their support. Their team the first thing they tell me is to update the bios. And they gave me the beta bios file to download. I don't know how to even update if my system doesn't post. MSI sucks. Should have not gone for it
  7. i had actually checked windows logs using the powercfg -lastwake and the powercfg -devicequery wake_armed. but it was of no use Is there no way to recover the bios?
  8. It would boot into windows and then would just hard reset. even in the bios it would reset
  9. This issue has been causing a lot of ruckus. I have a MSI B350M gaming pro mobo with a ryzen 5 1500x and a 1050ti from zotac. The system automatically during gaming sessions or normal sessions hard resets. I thought this could be a bios fault as i did not update the bios from a long time. So i downloaded the latest non-beta bios from MSI (they had beta one's also but avoided those) and fired up the m-flash utility. It was updating and it even completed the update but now won't post and show a debug led which indicates either booting failed or boot device not found. Is there any way i could recover the bios back? I don't have a dual bios switch also to help me here. Before this i also tried cleaning the contact pins on the ram and the gpu. i tried reseating the cpu also. then i also tried a different power supply. i also tried disconnecting the hard drives but it still would just hard reset.
  10. By the looks of it, it seems like a wake timer has been enabled which can be turned off in the power options in the control panel. https://lifehacker.com/how-find-out-what-woke-up-your-computer-last-1550549116 https://www.howtogeek.com/122954/how-to-prevent-your-computer-from-waking-up-accidentally/ These guides should help you. Event viewer would also be a great option to check what has been waking up your PC
  11. Any laptop details like the specs, the company and the list of apps installed? It would be great if you could share those
  12. Yes. I have an Intel Wireless AC-9560 with 802.11n and 5GHz support in my Asus Vivobook 15 X512FL and it seems that Intel Wireless Cards are more suited for Linux with out of the box support. I am currently using Ubuntu LTS 18.04 and this wireless card works great!
  13. Ok Thanks for your help. I ended up buying a 2tb hard drive external one from outside and partitioned it to install ubuntu and its works great. I cannot use wine actually because I'm also learning how to edit songs and videos. those apps actually aren't available on linux and wine doesn't work well with those programs
  14. That is a really good system you have got together! I'm not sure about the SSD though. Crucial SSD's are really good for the price and i have been using a Crucial P1 1TB NVMe SSD in my laptop. It gives a solid performance for the price
  15. I'll just buy a 2.5 inch 1TB SSD from out, resize it down for ubuntu and try to install it to that. Till that time, it means that i'll have to rely on the virtual machine.
  16. I don't have a optane module though. It's just a nvme ssd 512gb one from kingston that came preinstalled from the factory. From the factory, it came configured with that Intel RST premium thingy that is causing all the problem. Intel instead of letting the user work in peace is coming up with weird names and weird configurations to make the user experience hell. The problem now is that if i change the sata configuration to AHCI, ubuntu will detect the partition, but windows won't boot because of the Intel Rapid Storage technology shit installed.
  17. Ouch! I though microsoft started loving linux for once. Actually, no. Its a USB-C based drive with just a USB-A to USB-C cable. And plus i cannot open up the drive. I will try to buy an SSD from out and install it to that and check it out. It's this intel RST thingy that is giving me a headache
  18. I already tried using the external Samsung T5 SSD and it was not a good experience. The ubuntu install was laggy even on a external SSD. Might be due to a corrupt installation media i guess. As far as virtual machine goes, i need to pass my USB drives to the VM but the VM was not detecting them. I would really like linux to be installed on my main drive. I can't even nuke my windows install as some of the programs like autocad are being used extensively. How about using the windows subsystem for linux? i have heard of it but never tried it
  19. This is a problem as i cannot install Ubuntu to my 512gb ssd. The bios on my Asus Vivobook 15 X512FL is currently set with sata configuration as Intel RST Premium with Intel optane system acceleration. When I shrink my partition for ubuntu and i boot into the installer, it does not see the free space i created. After some reading, i discovered that ubuntu will not work unless your bios is in AHCI mode. So i changed my sata configuration to AHCI only to have more headache. Windows will not boot. After changing it back to the intel rst mode, windows boots fine. But, i cannot dual boot my laptop. Below are the specs for it: - Intel Core i7 8565U 8GB Ram 512GB Kingston NVMe SSD PCIe X2 SSD (1 Slot available to add an additional 2.5 inch Hard Drive/SSD) GeForce MX250 2GB GDDR5 So, any linux users or any hardware people who can help me to install ubuntu to my drive. And if i don't want to install ubuntu without changing the sata mode, will i be able to install ubuntu to a 2.5 inch ssd if i add one into it. It is actually crucial to use ubuntu as im doing my IT engineering and my college computers are all ubuntu based. So, will i be able to use ubuntu on the additional drive if i decide to install one into the laptop or will i have to change the sata mode and then try? Asus had provided the bracket and the cable to install a 2.5 inch drive in the box of the laptop.
  20. Dell has told me that the ram will run at 2400mhz rather than 2666mhz. I dont know why but they have told me like this. They also told me that for the 8th gen cpu, the ram runs at 2400mhz rather than 2666mhz. So,i technically should be able to dump a 2400mhz ram from crucial right if the ram has to even run at 2400mhz rather than 2666mhz?
  21. I just got myself a brand new Dell Laptop. The ram on the spec sheet was 8gb DDR4 2666Mhz and when i contacted dell, they told me that for 8th gen cpus, the ram will run at 2400MHz rather than 2666mhz. So is it possible to put a 8gb DDR4 stick from crucial running at 2400MHz or do i have to buy the same speed stick?? It is really important to me to have 16gb ram as i am doing my IT Engineering studies. Specs: Dell Inspiron 15 5580 8th gen Intel Core i5 8565U 8GB DDR4 Ram 2666MHZ 1tb HDD 500GB Crucial mx500 SSD MX150 2GB GDDR5 Graphics
  22. Dude. I should have then saved my 10yr old intel pentium system with just 1gb ram. I could have gotten double the money. Look guys. It runs windows 95/95/me/2000/xp/vista/7/8/8.1 and 10. All the operating systems ae installed on the hard drive pre loaded. Just for the sum of 10 million.
  23. You could even try telling them that their method of teaching is painful and you don't understand their methods.
