    techguy101 got a reaction from Hi P in VA panels for gaming?   
    I don't think it's not impossible for HDMI to run FHD with 144Hz, but mostly DP can cover more than HDMI for my experience.
    Also i thought you need to have a decent graphics card to run 144Hz (2080 Ti should have to work.) (Correct me if i'm wrong.)
    But in any ways, DisplayPort is recommended.
