Which config is overkill? And yes, that should be future proof for a few years. If you want further futureproofing, head over to a Ryzen based system. I have no idea what you are wanting to use your PC for.. That info would be nice.

Id go with a i9, 128GB Ram, RTX 2080TI Sli, and a few 2TBs M.2 SSDs all water-cooled if I didn't have a budget lol

Yes! I would do some more research on what you want before I dropped $2400 on a PC build I don't know much about.

You mean before building one? Just make sure the CPU and Motherboard are compatible and you get a PSU with enough wattage, and that everything fits in your case.

I have tried a few versions and no difference.

I switched around the sticks, and now it will freeze up instead of completely crash. The RGB on the RAM sticks now goes blank, and then a few mins later goes to the default color fade.

Like with all 4 sticks?

I can change the color to white with the new sticks.
