    as far as I know, Thunderbolt add-in-cards require specific support in the motherboard BIOS as well as a special header on the board-doesn't require Z170 specifically, just a board that has support (which includes newer boards and even some AMD boards). I look into this from time to time and unfortunately it does not seem that any ol TB card can just go in any ol motherboard 😞

    the 2011 model isn't the same as the 2010 so that won't work either.

    Is this for the 13 in model?
     
    THey seem to have changed some screw locations and ports, so it won't be a drop in replacement.
