I just know that is the splitter I choose for a large project that failed miserably. I have no other experience with USB 2.0 splitters.
I had 4 of them, and not 1 worked as "intended" to even split the USB header as viable. If I plugged in one device it might work, but eventually dropped. Most the time just cycled the things connected to it (as plugged in, not plugged in, rinse repeat). Also had the same boot issues you described.
The only splitters Ive used that worked was USB 2.0 male (not header splitter) adapters that broke out to additional 2.0 slots.
