  1. May I add a couple pennies? Found a video about the topic, which I felt was an accomplishment. It does seem difficult to find videos that discuss this. I know people are busy, so I linked to a better solution than what Valve posted @ 12:19 in the below video. The entire video is good and it's a nice to hear this topic being discussed on YouTube.
  2. Doesn't the patch slow down your cpu up to 50%?
  3. What % of devices (operational and not) are vulnerable to these exploits? Is it so bad that it's better to ask what devices aren't vulnerable? I read that Intel is working on next-gen cpu's that will stop the vulnerabilities, but that doesn't fix existing devices.
  4. Fixed. 100% it was a bad AmazonBasics 10' cable. Got a proper 6' DP cable, works. Still have that random black screen with BlackOps4 though.
  5. Used DDU and tried the 19.2 drivers. Still BSOD. Tomorrow 19.1 and 18.2. Some stated that 18.2 likely works, I'll start there
  6. Thx Rob. What's the latest driver you got working? Wait I misread what you said, you got the latest driver working...sweet!
  7. Brand new PC that was just built yesterday. Everything works fine. But once updating the AMD drivers from the 17.1 that win10 automatically installs to the 19.1 or 19.2 drivers, the monitor goes black. It occurs right when your monitor flickers when installing new drivers. Upon rebooting, everything works fine, until roughly half way into booting into win10, the screen goes black. HDMI works fine, but I need the DP's for other monitors. I plugged in HDMI, tried dropping the resolution to 720p 60Hz, plugged DP back in, still black. I only have the one DP cable, ordered about 4 more, eta tomorrow. 8. I'm having the same issue. Have you had any luck? I narrowed it down to a display port issue with the latest amd drivers. I've ordered a bunch of new DP cables to make sure they're not the culprit, but I updated the driver from 17.1 to 19.1/19.2 and the screen went black from that point forward. I need to find a fix.

    Windows 10

Thanks for your help. Of the 500GB SSD, I'll allocate 400 to Win and 100 unallocated, intended for ElementaryOS. I have this document walkthrough for the win10 install that I assembled with everybody's help here and other sources. It's nowhere near completion, nor is it 100% accurate, but maybe it'll be of use to someone. I dunno, I just feel like giving back. Note, I've never touched Win10, so I really have no clue what I'm talking about other than watching videos. The info here may or may not be correct, I make no claim other than my attitute towards win10, which is to approach the OS with a 10 foot pole until I understand exactly what it's doing; tmk, Win10 is in the business of selling your information as stated in their policies, Win10 is the last version of Windows and they have to make money somehow. Below is for an AMD cpu & gpu, Gigabyte mobo. **) 85 degrees max for gpu & cpu. Test case pressure with smoke and adjust PWM fans accordingly via Gigabyte's APP. 0a) Install Windows * enter the key * skip setting up the internet at all, use a local account, do not use a ms account * disable all bad settings, make sure to scroll and read everything 0b) Once Installed, Fix Windows Updates: * start > gear icon > update & security > windows update > advanced > choose how updates are delivered set to off & pcs on my local network (don't want to allow peer2peer connections) * disable automatic updates. Yes, disable them. Need to know when windows updates the system so can run a tool to keep the new updates from spying on us. Win10 has been claimed, by a trusted youtuber, to re-enable the privacy settings that you had previously disabled after major upates. Yes, disabling automatic updates may make the system & network less secure by not immediately patching known security holes. so be it. But don't ignore the updates, I like to do secure banking and store my personal info on my home network. Supposidely the program to stop win10 spying is called o&o shutup 10, which I'm not familiar with. I don't know how o&o shutup 10 & win10 updates work yet, will automate the two asap. When done, you can adjust the bandwidth allocated to windows updates so it doesn't steal your attention. 1a) * Follow Step 1 from the Windows10OptimizationandMaintenance.pdf via youtube.com/watch?v=Hdb4iybN8gg * > network & internet > wifi-services > turn off all that open hotspots shit * > privacy > general > uncheck all those * > speech, inking & typing > turn that shit off to stop cortana from recording everything u say * > location > turn off (enable select apps below) * > feedback & diagnostics > basic, disable toggle below * > notifications & actions > uncheck notifications on lock screen check hide notifications when im duplicating my screen * > personalization > start > uncheck occasionally show suggestions in start * > gaming > game dvr > uncheck record in the bg while i'm playing a game * > gaming > game mode > check game mode to on (research ltt, it may help this budget pc, but it'll likely hurt performance if you bought a new gpu) * cortana settings in start menu > disable all * installing oo shutup 10 will lock most of the other bullshit down 1b) now onto the cool features of win10: * > display > night light (this is like flux and will lower the blue light as the sun goes down) it does need location services enabled. if uncomforable enabling that, use flux. i'd use flux, its got more features) 2) AMD Ryzen Balance Plan. amd.com - see the drivers section and manually download the driver. 3) Motherboard Drivers 4) GPU Drivers 5) Motherboard Apps 6) Motherboard BIOS Updates * Read the notes carefully and make sure it increases compatability with your current and future hardware. I felt the same way, but he may make money on the PC in the future, so had to buy a full key instead of those $20 keys. Already bought the key. $110 is about 10% of the total cost of this computer. But he wanted Windows, it's all he's ever used, his drone programs are Windows only, it's his call. Plus I have lots of free Windows games for him. This computer is a lot of firsts for him, his first desktop computer since 2004, first SSD, he's only used WindowsXP and Android, first experience with the current PC gaming market, first gaming experience over 60 Hz, first time browsing the web on a modern desktop, first time using Linux. I'm going to use ADB to remove the bloatware from his tablet & phone via his new computer. When I last did mine, Samsung's drivers didn't work in Windows, thus I may have a reason to show him a benefit of Linux making his other devices faster. I maybe more familiar with Linux than Win10, he's not. What happens when he plugs in an unsupported device or changes the odd setting. I'm hoping Elementary is the distro to go with.

Bro is going to use the system todo what android and his ps4 can't. He isn't 100% sure what that is, as this is his first desktop pc in forever. I assume web surfing and youtube primarily, gaming and eventually video encoding/editing drone videos. This is the first Win10 key that we own. Oem win10 was priced at $110, which was way already way too much, the retail version was more. I never had an issue with my oem win7. Side note, you're probably aware, check out the current hardware survey on Steam, 28% are on Win7, 64% on Win10. This is the last year of Win7 support updates, and MS doesn't sell Win8.1 anymore. That's a lot of Win10 copies that are going to be installed this year.

I'm going to dual boot elementary OS for bro. I hope it works out for him. I got this weird feeling, I'm going to be spending days learning Win10 and setting it up vs a couple hours of messing with elementary.

Yea, even in his video, swapping a video card didn't trigger the de-activation watermark. But he said it did in an earlier test. I read elsewhere that it's mainly triggered from motherboard or boot drive swaps. It's weird.
