  1. I've been hunting for a set of rails for almost 3 months, a ""Canadian website"" neutron canada lists they have them. Its non secure but i was just looking for anyone whos maybe had experience with them?
  2. Intel has lost market share in the HEDT space, unless someone can correct me? Intel chips only support 20 pcie lens even the high-end 12900K but the 5950x supports 24 and thread ripper has some big numbers. I know today's hardware is a lot faster but at what tradeoff with lack of lanes to run accessories? When I first moved from a 8700k to a 7800x a lot of my stuff ran smoother and faster either from the lanes to run everything to the quad channel memory. I'm super hesitant to upgrade from my 9820X for lack of information on workstation performance. I guess my question is are they any team blue options that I'm not aware of that still has the features of workstation chips?
  3. when extracting from intel or msi there is no .inf file my 3.1v2 ports supply proper power 2A but only show as a usb2.0 when connected. my 3.0 ports provide 3.0 speeds but only provide .7A max the issue is i have to either pick speed or power apparently and this a issue when using something like a thunderbolt dock. or anything external typeC nvme, cd, or anything else that needs data and power I'm not sure how else to describe the issue. windows doesn't let me change driver files, and all of my ports suck balls? i even tried to purchase a dual type C 3.2 pice card and its still only letting me get 2.0 speeds

I have an MSI x299 SLI plus board, with a 9820x and powered via evga 1300G2 psu. i just picked up a oculus quest 2 to run off the machine and get a feel for things before getting a index usb 2.0 ports work as you would expect (have 4x) usb 3.0 ports only produce.5a-.7a of current (have 4x) usb 3.1v2(10gb) ports produce 1.7a but show as a 2.0 device when connecting to the port.(i have 1x type A and 1x type C) i purchased a usb 3.2 pci card dual type C and i get the same usb 2.0 error i tried to download usb drivers from msi and intel but they are installers instead of .inf files so im not sure how to change the drivers I do not, and can not figure out why i would be limited on these ports. in bios i have settings for thunderbolt but nothing limiting speeds. ive tried with thunderbolt toggled on and off. tried to post on the msi reddit before comming here Board Overview Reddit Link
  5. i keep hearing this. but it performs well still bench tests better then a 7700k while running all my programs during the benchmarks. and cost me a whopping 87usd. should do even better when my 35usd pair of 2680v2 get installed not saying its the best system ever, but cost to performance having a hard time with something to beat it only paid 6.50 for the 96gb of ram and suggestions on something newer with a better cost to performance ratio?
  6. i use a variety of cad programs, and other various programs. the cost of constantly trying to upgrade multiple machines is getting out of hand vs leveraging the power of just one system and multiple locations. 6 separate machines, and i update my server every so often already. why i was trying to look at thin clients. also having to boot a system and then connect to RDP you could say it's for home use. but it's a non-typical home use. i have two systems in my shop, office, and two remote systems at an offsite garage. i have access to all versions of windows, server 03 and server 08 primary server is dual e2660/96gb eecddr3 ~96tb spinning disks we went back and forth on a different thread about this. if no one has any answers to the question I'm trying to ask ill just ask elsewhere.

Can anyone point me in the direction of researching leveraging my server's hardware for compute power. or whatever this type of computing is considered. example: my mum works for an insurance company. they all work off thin clients. when working from home they have a phone, document scanner, fax/printer at their desks. at the office they print to a group machine. However, when logging in they use a network style login. all the compute power is done on servers at her office. and all her peripherals are local. (what ever is plug into that specific client) someone had suggested using remote desktop but I'd rather use a few thin clients as appropriate locations instead of needing to build a small machine for each location
  8. Typically when there are big update you have to wait for the plugins to catch up. I'm still on 1.17.1 untill all my plugins show comparability for 1.18. The move from 16 to 17 was around a two month wait for me
  9. Have you tried downloading more RAM? Typically your PC will have system reserved quantity of RAM dedicated to one board graphics or minimum system resources. If you're using a separate GPU you might be able to disable your igpu in your bios or turn down the amount of dedicated system memory.
  10. Well my server runs multiple programs for home automation, security cameras (24-camera), water monitoring, multiple gaming servers (Minecraft, counterstrike, valheim, farming sim) Plex. When something hangs up or has an issue I log in to restart programs or adjust files ect. I'm unaware of a way to remote manage these programs so I simply use remote desktop to log in I can reboot the entire machine or independent programs as well as check the status of my network APCs Sometimes If I'm not at home I can run different cad/cam programs to create tool paths or run simulations for clearance and strength issues. Why I stated a laptop really of no interest to me due to power/cost ratio. I have a venue 11 and a dock at home as well as my 9820x. But the other systems are weak and would rather leverage unused the power of the servers I have. Also makes upgrading cheeper when I only one set of parts and software to pay for a license on the server vs each machine I run separate machines now because I have no knowledge on thin clients or network based user profiles. Additionally one machines is hooked to a CNC router, one to a CNC lathe, one to a 3d printer. So I need what ever I'm using to be able to interact with the peripherals attached to the client and not the server.
  11. I actively remote into manage the server if there's an issue with it. Reboot certain programs and so forth. But I didn't know that all my local peripherals would be available over remote desktop. I thought I only had access to what was attached to the server. Didn't know there was a file/usb passthrough
  12. Rdp? Remote desktop protocol? You'll have to forgive me I've been out of touch with technology for probably the last 6 to 8 years. Can that be done with a thin client? One workstation is attached to a 3D printer the other to a CNC Minnie mill. With those peripherals connect to the server via remote desktop? I do plan on moving the 3D printer over to an octoprint server they are not directly controlled it's just data transfer via USB to upload the file
  13. I find my self in multiple locations and in need of accessing the same desktop/file system. My main pc that i use for design is a 9820x with 32gb and a 2070super. and its awesome for everything except its a full tower and i cant tote it around my property. I run some other rather outdated pcs in various locations, one is a ali express special with a e5-2670, and some are a 6th gen g4400 in my office, garage, shop, ect. the goal is to swap the systems for thin clients so access the same user login/file system and offload the work load to one of my servers. I have a pile of monitors, keyboards, mice, ect. I just know absolutely nothing about doing so and i was looking for some help or direction in getting there. My mother works from home and two different offices. when she starts work she types in her login : stuff/name and her pw but everything moves to the current login. files and programs, but it always uses the printer/fax attached to her thin client My main server is a x9dri-ln4f+ with a pair of e2660/96gb eecddr3 ~96tb spinning disks It hosts a few minecraft java servers, Valheim, Plex and all my data storage My x8dtl-if pair of x5670/24gb eecddr3 is responsible for my home DVR for my security cameras I also have a pair of offline Dell 2950-3 with x5355s/24gb and some other various older hardware I run windows 10 but i also have a license for server 08 and server 03, and all the older windows os 7,xp,vista,98,95,nt a laptop sounds great but one that would handle some of the cad files i work with its more then i wanna pay especially for garage use i get all kinds of shavings in my keyboards as well as grease and other stuff. i like to make adjustments while i work Is what I'm looking for a VM? or are there better options? Would i need to add a graphics card to one of my servers or can the CPUs brute their way into things? Where can i find a guide or software either on the free or cheep side of things?

  15. Is there any negative to a SFX psu? longevity? when compared to a standard ATX? I recently motherboard swapped my one system and the board is bigger. I've considered removing the 120mm fan from the psu and adding a pair of 40mm to the rear or finding alternative psus. I have just a hair over 3in for psu height so swapping to a SFX would fit I just didn't know if their was a lower life expectancy or any negatives to SFX vs ATX, it has the 24pin 2(eps12v) and 8 4pin connectors as well as a few pcie and sata. Not enough slots to plug everything but enough to use the cables that i need. My other option is to order a flex atx or server psu and use a breakout board. A different case or board is not an option. So is there a negative to SFX? this is the unit I'm looking at unless there are any better suggestions?   16. If i run a synthetic load or I'm working with 3d modeling I have no issues with usage. I've started to attempt to stream or even just play games. Prior to upgrading my usage was more *matched* I used to run 2x960's on SLI and a 7800x and would see 80-90% cpu usage and 90/40% usage across my gpus Now i run a 9820x and a 2070Super and its common to see 30-50% cpu usage and 40-60%gpu, i have all the setting maxed with RTX off and unlimited frame rate, but I'm only getting 105-125fps current game is modern warfare and suggestions? i can post screenshots if it helps
  17. Where I very much like the x299 platform and my processor has been very good to me I'm curious to what the actual benefits are at this point when the 10900 offers 10 cores at 5ghz. I realize 2066 allows you up to I think an 18 core CPU but what other benefits does it really have to offer? Is there actually a list of benefits I know that all of my PCI slots are a full 16x and that I have quad-channel ddr4. But those really don't seem to be all that important now that gpus offer way more than sli ever did
  18. With the new ryzen series coming out an Intel 10th gen desktop chips pushing 10 cores of their own. Is there really any benefit to running an X series chip anymore? I feel like with the increased clock speed and cork out that ryzen offers the x-series platform feels dead. No one throws them up for any kind of comparison on benchmarks. I mean one was information if it's worth upgrading or not or just building AMD?
  19. the boards I'm using only have one or two fan headers. one being a CPU fan header I used to use the old 5.25 bay fan controller but with the advancements in tech I really wanted to use os the other boards i have that have 4+ fan headers no longer pwm control after bios update... as soon as certain processor is installed the fans all run at 100% trying to keep it cool even if its only at 30c just got a new board in with 8 headers on it 2 for CPU, hopefully this system will allow me to run a little quieter but I don't know its the same mfg. i like the software control options you gave do you know any cheap hardware controllers?
  20. No? I can care less who makes the controller. I like the commander pro but not at over $100 a piece. I have a few systems that will no longer pwm fans. They just run out full tilt and it's super annoying. Enter Bios issue lol
  21. I can care less about the RGB just wish I had something more for fans. I have a few things that use temperature probes control fans independently but nothing that integrates with the OS through USB... Was excited to find that but there isn't any in stock and hasn't been for a little while
  22. I've always had an issue with finding fans or rgb that i like. most of the issues are that most things has a high cost propriety controller. The thermaltake riing fans use a special plug and cant cross mix. i like the commander pro but at the price tag i cant just throw one in every pc i own BUT!!!! i came across this little gem does anyone know of anything else like it. that can give you software control over fans?? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CSH5XW4/?coliid=I1UW0E4SEYW5F6&colid=1ZM9SRM6ABVCI&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it its a basic fan controller. looks like rubbish software but i only have 2 fan plugs on my itx board and it would be nice to control all 5 fans
  23. Most m-atx boards run dual channel memory whether they have two or four slots. Boards with 4 slotd basically just add the additional memory but still runs dual channel 4 sticks of 4 Is basically dual 8gb sticks unless you have a quad channel processor... ATX boards almost always have four dimms but are still dual channel. My x series board has 8 slots. But is only a quad channel board 2011 socket Xeon and x series (2066) all support quad channel memory. I think the i6800 did as well. the one board has a quad channel memory controller on it the other one only has a dual channel controller... Or did I misunderstand your statement? I just didn't know outside of a server system how much benefit quad-channel actually gave you
  24. Except for better hardware being cheeper I wouldn't see a reason to wait. I think most people on here would agree that most games aren't designed to use more than maybe for threads at a time with the exception of destiny and a few other titles that can use up to like 16 Intel 10gen is cheeper and better then 9th My i9 9820x was a lot less then my 7800x
  25. I've got about 160gb of ram laying around got lucky with a few lots off eBay for ddr3 ecc. I've got a e5 2670 / 2640 with no matched pair and 6 x5670. I figured I would throw the 2670 on the board. It's not super fast but I'll only be working with cad and emails. Board is $55+12 for shipping. Quad channel board is 68+28 for shipping. And I mean specifically quad-channel not quad-socket both board support 4 sticks of RAM but the controller on one only supports dual channel mode I have an extra lga 1151v1 board laying around but someone chipped the processor. I figured the x79 was cheeper then 1151 processor and ram
