    Hey you alive?

hey man all alive, organising a new build for a friend around £550 budget could do with some advice aha
  2. Build is finished after spending a good 6 hours on it, now time to configure the BIOS and get windows installed Thanks to everyone for the help, especially @OrbitalBuzzsaw for making many iterations of the parts list
  3. update I've bought the SSD and the PSU, going to swap the PSU in my dead rig and see if it will work so I can play some games in the meantime while I wait to spend more on the rest as I cannot spend all at once Bitfenix Formula Gold 650W PSU £93 inc delivery (cost me £16 for delivery) Also going to get 8gb of ddr4 as it will save me £61 and i can get more when the price goes down
  4. seller just messaged me this and got me thinking... "thank you for buying the card - I just had an idea, since you said your not playing the newest modern games. Would you consider a cheaper, but still powerful build - similar to what I have, would save you I think quite the buck, and maybe you could put that towards to a bigger monitor? I buy some used parts from CEX, memory modules, cpu. Cex is fairly fair and they give one year warranty on every pc parts they sell. If your interested, I could look around and see how much a gen3/4 i5/i7 build would be, with 16/32 gig ddr3 rams. the 3rd/4rth gen i5, and especially the i7 is still a very powerful platform." "won't charge for anything, would do it on a friend basis, and because Im a hopeless geek who has this as a hobby :)"
  5. @OrbitalBuzzsaw @Stefan Payne so I'm about to order to order, but still unsure what PSU to get after looking as all the recommenced seem good (leaning towards Corsair - TXM Gold 650W 80+ Gold)
  6. So I bought the card. He showed me a few games (Prey and Ghost recon wildlands) and it seemed fine at a smooth 60 fps at high settings. On Ghost recon, he popped it up to ultra and it ran at 30 fps but the card exceeded 83 celcius (thermal limit he told me the card wouldn't exceed) up to 90. His fans never exceeded 35-40% as he didnt like the noise of the fans. Seller re did the thermal gel (apparently it's proper expensive silica based gel that should last minimum 5 years) last year and the card appears to be in immaculate condition and looked after very well. Seller's job is a building pc's and so he seems quite knowledgeable and has been building since the 90's. Anyway i'm rather happy with the card and he's offered to give me a hand with the build. On to ordering the rest of the build for the weekend! p.s he has a few classics hanging around and is gonna have to run one of the two in the image below
  7. I'm meeting the seller in around 2 hours and he's knocking off £10 as he cannot find the original box for it. Gonna see how it runs in his system first and will probably buy it.
  8. bloody hell where do I start with this! Well I say it's a "steal" as the guy lives 5 minutes away and that I'll be able to get a beefy GPU for nearly £80 less than what I was going to pay for a 1060 6gb or rx 580 8/4gb. Anyway like I've said in my other post I've been out the game for nearly 4 years so seeing this card go for £170 would excite me As for the PSU, my old rig died due to the PSU failing and so I am more than happy to pay more for a PSU that will ensure longevity (although I know that is a sticky topic with a lot of people online). I think a 550-650W gold rated PSU would suffice (although I'm not sure on which one; I'll look at the suggestions in the thread) @bored_ol_me Not too sure why you suggest a 1500x would be better than a 1600??? but I appreciate your input for discussion. I would like to add this is the first rig I will have that will be OC'able however, with the case (NZXT H500) it has a negative pressure setup with two exhaust fans and a solid front end (limited inflow from fans) and thus it favours GPU cooling but from what I've read the heat radiating from the GPU will flow over the CPU to the exhaust thus heating it up, hence the interplay between the two. I'm not sure how much this would effect OC'ing (if at all) but its just some food for thought. Once again I've seen videos on OC'ing but I am pretty much a noob when it comes to doing it! Still waiting on a reply from the seller but I'll be sure to keep everyone updated
  9. may also grab a couple extra fans, need to check the case specs but a couple wont hurt
  10. I was just thinking that, imagine how funny a micro atx would look with a 390 in it
  11. i most likely will do down the line once i get more money
  12. cm storm xornet and px 1800... cheap and cheerful
  13. thankfully i've had a decent mouse and keyboard since 2012 and i am a machine on csgo with them (still mge )

  17. De-Ionized water is more "pure" than distilled water which may contain some thermal ions present in the water. You can produce your own distilled water if you have some clean glassware and a lot of time!
  18. No the fans weren't spinning as all I had done was connected the power cable from the wall to the PSU. I took the CMOS out and popped it back in and the issue seemed to be fine (I'll have a look at the PSU list for sure!), but now when I re-install windows it completes everything up until it black screens at the login page and I can only use windows in safe mode. I tried updating the drivers in safe mode but windows couldn't sign the driver and thus i was getting error code 99 in AMD catalyst control center. I also suspect the IGFX doesn't work as I enabled it from the bios but was getting black screen with a flashing power light on my monitor. Device manager detects my gpu and all fans are spinning but i guess for whatever reason doesn't like it running in normal windows. I suspect it may just be a PSU issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks
  19. Hi, Recently my pc blue screened (due to fortnite...) and windows killed itself. After attempting to re-install windows clean, my pc would just never be able to re-install properly, freezing etc.. i formatted my hdd and attempted a clean install where I could access safe mode but then would not go into normal mode. i have given up as this has been persisting for a month but today I plugged it back in and noticed that the power switch light would switch on and off along with a ticking noise. I swiftly disconnected the power and all cables and held the power button to discharge the system. I replugged everything and the same happened! i booted up into my bios and it is currently stable in the bios. I am going to attempt to re-install windows 10 again however is the PSU completely unsafe? The system is around 5 years old and cost me £450 to build (I forgot which PSU is in there but I have a i3 and r7770 hd) im already considering building a new rig but I'm very poor so I want to squeeze as much life as possible out of this rig cheers!
  20. Thanks so much pal! Gonna put some more research into what you said and come up with a decision, but your list is looking great.
  21. Ahhh so many good options haha thank you so much everyone. I can easily see myself spending more and more and more on this thing! Anyway, with regards to the motherboard, why would you not choose an MSI motherboard?
  22. My only concern is with the the vram. Going from 3GB to 8GB is quite the leap and if it is within reasonable reach of my wallet I'd be happy to fork out the extra ££. I've read a lot of articles etc stating how important it is but I'm not sure myself if it's worth it. If the price difference is around £30 as some youtubers have stated then I don't see a reason as to why not thanks for the link!
  23. Where did you see that the 8GB version is cheaper? Just curious
  24. Sweet as pal! I'm gonna research some more into this and probably buy this!
  25. This has also grabbed my attention. With regards to CPU cooling is there a need for that on this CPU or is it cooled from the stock heat sink?
