  1. I've been going through lots of reviews and searches but I'm having a hard time finding a monitor that hits the criteria and has good reviews. There have been a couple I've found that come close but then it'll turn out that it has black smearing when in games or scrolling which I *hate* on my current monitor. Do any of you have experience with a monitor that you can recommend in this price range? I'll link my top pick right now below but I've heard mixed things about it on the internet...

Your PCpartpicker list has a lot of parts that are out of stock and are not included in the price. Also somethings you're paying way too much the 1660Ti should be ~$300 not $600, and the case should be a lot cheaper for that price point like ~$70.

Are you viewing the right link? For me the card is $300 and the NZXT case is $70. Also everything says its in stock

  3. Budget (including currency): $1200

    Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Modern Warfare, Rainbow Six, Minecraft, Rust

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): https://pcpartpicker.com/user/1nvasi0n/saved/nCWqpg

I included the parts list I already have in the link above. As far as I can see it's all compatible and is about the speed my buddy wants. Are there any spots I can cut costs to improve others? Or just overall save money? Thanks!

You can also jsut buy a $200 refurbished dell latitude from amazon. If it's really just for class it will do everything you need and do it very well. Yes it costs a little more, but it's sure a lot less hassle that running VMs, and it already comes with a licensed copy of windows 10, so that's just about covers your costs.

I actually already have a spare copy of windows 10 so with that in mind I'd rather just run things off my main MacBook

  5. I'm looking to buy an external SSD to use with my 2019 MacBook Pro so that I can install bootcamp on it instead of using it on my internal drive. I only need to use it for a few classes so it doesn't need to be huge or insanely fast. Do you guys have any recommendations? For the size around 128 gigs is probably plenty of storage. Thanks!

  6. So my dorm only has one ethernet port and I'm looking to hook up my pc and my switch at the same time. They won't be used at the same time, but I'd rather not be constantly switching which one is plugged into the wall so I'm looking for a cheap ethernet switch for GAMERS.

Here's one I found on Amazon, is it any good?

if you have onedrive, you can just point onedrive to sync the minecraft directory.

So would it keep the minecraft directory the same on both computers assuming they were connected to the internet?

Start a server on one of your computers and it will be available to all devices on your home network.

Would it work when I leave the house with my laptop though? Basically I'm trying to play on the same world both at home and on the go without using Realms

  9. The "Problem"

So basically what I'm trying to do is create a seamless way to play on my single player Minecraft Java Edition save files between my computers without using a realm (I want to be able to play offline). I'm willing to deal with some strangeness , but basically I want a solution where I won't have to drag files around. Below I'll list the computers I'm trying to do this with as well as other stuff I can use that might be helpful in finding a solution

    The Hardware and Software

    • PC on Windows 10
    • Macbook (not so) Pro - Bootcamp installed but not preferred
    • USB thumb drive with USB C and USB A outputs (is outputs the right word? Probably not. Oh well.)
    • Microsoft OneDrive (Provided through school)

    Possible Solutions

One possibility could be to make Minecraft runnable from the USB drive that I have, but it would probably be slow especially on my main PC and it still wouldn't solve the issue of needing to move the save file between the mac and windows versions of Minecraft.

Another possibility would be if there was a way to link the Minecraft save directory to a folder in OneDrive, which I'm not sure is possible. I'm pretty sure this would be the best solution, but I wouldn't know how to do it.

Please keep in mind that I would prefer not to have to use bootcamp when I play Minecraft on my Mac, but I can if I need to. Thanks for the help!

It probably is compatible, but if I were you I would attempt to buy the same brand/model of the RAM that is currently in the system. Ideally you want your RAM to run with Dual-Channel, but sometimes that doesn't always happen when you mix. Pop open the laptop and see if you can find a serial number or something, that would be your best bet. Otherwise, you might consider buying something that is already running in Dual-Channel, or buy a set.

Also I would buy something from a more reputable manufacturer than Nemix, they are about as budget as it comes. Try something like G.Skill.

    gotcha. Thanks!

  11. So I'm planning on buying this ASUS laptop and it comes with a single 16gb stick of ram. Dual channel is ideal for gaming so I'm planning on also getting an extra 8gb stick of ram that's the same speed, and I was wondering if it was compatible. I know sometimes system manufacturers will try to lock stuff down to only use their ram for some reason so I just wanted to confirm that this would work before I waste money on ram I can't use. Thanks!!

A lot of  systems that have  cassette tape / cd player / fm tuner / aux in / line in  can record to tape stuff from the other inputs (cd , radio. aux in, line in)

So you could simply connect the stereo output from your sound card to aux in or line in of such system using a basic stereo to 2 x RCA or stereo - stereo cable, play the sound on your computer and hit record on the tape.

Alternatively, you could record your voice or music or whatever as a regular audio file and then create an Audio CD using whatever CD burning software you want. Then, simply insert the CD, hit play, then hit record on your cassette tape.

Here's a very simple and cheap cassette player/recorder with CD, tuner and aux in , at $59 :

Sony CFDS70-BLK CD/MP3 Cassette Boombox Home Audio Radio, Black, With Aux Cable : https://www.amazon.com/Sony-CFDS70-BLK-Cassette-Boombox-Audio/dp/B01NAWBY12/

You get a stereo-stereo cable in the box or you can buy one to connect this directly to your computer or laptop... if you need to buy a cable it looks like this : https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-3-5mm-Stereo-Audio-Cable/dp/B00NO73Q84/

I'm looking at the first one and it looks decent. I see it on B&H and they spec it with a built in mic and a USB audio line in (plug a usb in and send audio to it). I'll be honest, I have no idea how the recording process will go for this little shoebox thing but I'm taking a guess that you just select it as the audio output instead of your headphones or speakers. I would suggest picking up a 3.5mm audio jack to USB adapter so the PC can easily recognize an audio output.

I wouldn't pick up the second one, by the way. It's a newer attempt with cassettes and its pretty cheap in quality. The reviews speak for themselves. I'm not sure if you were wanting to pick this up as a player for your recorded cassettes but either way this thing sucks.

As for the tapes, don't worry too much about it. The first ones you linked are perfectly fine. They're not the best for sound quality compared to expensive type 4 cassettes, but they sound fine to me, no issues.

If you can spend a tiny bit extra on this walkman, I would recommend it as I used to own one. It sounds quite good and is durable since it's a Sports model.

    Great, Thank you so much!

The best way for your budget is to pick up a used boombox/mini boombox that can record cassettes from the audio of a USB drive/SD card and a used walkman/off brand walkman from eBay (or amazon if you get lucky). The newer USB stuff is easier to use than what I do (record from my laptop, into hifi system which feeds into my double cassette deck).

I personally think you're going to have to leave behind the idea of going for retro stuff, because people charge a lot of the old cassette gear (unless you get a great deal of course).

My used walkman from the early 2000's costed me $25 on amazon, used and it still works great ever since I first bought it in middle school.

Yeah I was worried the old look would cost extra... Your setup sounds pretty cool though!

Here's some different cassette players I found on Amazon, any of them stick out to you? The first one in particular seems to be what I'm looking for since it said something about being able to record to the cassette tape, but the smaller ones are more portable obviously.

And these are the cassette tapes themselves that I kept seeing get recommended

  15. So I need help finding something i can use to put audio files from my computer onto a cassette tape, as well as something to listen to the tapes with using headphones (Sony walkman type of thing I guess). I was searching around on Amazon and doing some searching, but honestly I have no idea what the heck I'm looking at. If any of you guys know of a good old school looking tape recorder and an old school looking way to listen to the tapes that would be great! If we can stick to the classic look aesthetic too that would be great, but I'm not trying to break the bank either since it's for a prom thing.

    tl,dr:

Need to listen to/ put recordings of my voice on a cassette tape

I want it to look old and be relatively cheap

    I'm confused and scared.

    Thanks!
