A lot of people are missing a couple of key things. 1) Apps already installed on your device will not be affected. 2) If an app is truly bug-free and doesn't need to be updated, then it can simply be recompiled for whatever the new SDK is.

Could be, though it goes back to the topic of cutting costs. If the budget is strict, paying 3x the amount for comparable performance is rough, though I personally am no stranger to spending extra for aesthetics. That said, Noctua is slowly but surely inching away from the days of white/brown fans. Nothing RGB yet, but maybe soon (tm).

Could consider swapping out that AIO for something like one of Noctua's high end offerings. Generally perform the same, if not better, ought to be a little quieter, and roughly 1/3 the cost. But they're huge (and sometimes ugly, but they're getting better!). You could scale back to a Ryzen 7 offering and still get great performance in AAAs and editing. Downscaling RAM to 3000-3200 wouldn't hurt. Frankly, the (good) motherboards are all $200+ nowadays, though the ASRock Steel Legion I've been eyeing has been about $50 cheaper than your current listed board.

The optimist in me says that a 5800X and a 3070 will definitely hold up that long. My 2700X just had its 5th birthday and it's running strong on Zen+, so I'd like to think a Zen3 CPU could stick it out that long. GPUs are obviously easier to replace as needed if something that blows a 3070 out of the water comes along (maybe not so easy on your wallet, but you know ), so go with your gut there. And nice, that RAM and SSD upgrade will be a great addition.

For basic 1080p use, I've been a fan of Acer Nitro monitors. I've got this model that I use for Discord/whatever on the side. It's cheaper here in the US than the model you listed with a 75Hz refresh rate, if that's important to you at all. Both are fine options though.

Been in a similar pickle about whether to upgrade right now. Sitting on a 2700X and a 3070 and decided to wait for the next gen of Ryzen to come out before pulling the trigger. What you listed for your potential upgrades is solid and will chew through 1440p gaming and any other tasks you through at it (though I would recommend at least 16GB of RAM if you're VMing and programming). My combo does so on a 1440p ultrawide just fine. At the end of day, a 5800X and 3070 will do well for a good few years. The main issue is your upgrade path with a 5800X ends there as AM4's time is over. Ryzen 7000 will be on AM5, so if future upgrading is important for you, keep that in mind.

Hi friends, need some help figuring out what's going on. Build: -CPU: 2700X (from 1300X) -GPU: ASUS 1070 STRIX -Mobo: ASRocks B350M Pro4 (P4.7) -RAM: 16GB HyperX Fury 2400MHz RAM So today I went through and updated my mobo's BIOS up from 3.0 to 3.4 to 4.7, giving it a few boots in between. After swapping to the 2700X, I booted and it went up just fine. I was getting ready to stress test it but was attempting to watch the new LTT video while I had some foods and noticed a couple of weird things... 1) video kept stuttering and eventually just got the loading circle, even though CPU load was at 14% and GPU was resting fine & my network connection is a-okay on 1gig fiber 2) The sound from my speakers was acting up BAD. Then just stopped. No sound whatsoever. I unplugged them from my monitor & refreshed the video and got some sound, then the video went back to the loading circle. 3) I restarted the computer and the case lights & CPU fan are all on, fans spinning etc, but no output to monitors. Initially, my keyboard wouldn't even light up, but after unplugging and replugging it, it turned to its default colors as it does when going through boot sequence. I've tried typing my PW in but the keyboard doesn't change colors, so it's not loading up into Windows it seems. I'm not sure where to start on this one. help edit: after waiting about 8 minutes, I turned the computer back on and it's working perfectly... loaded up my chrome tabs too and the video just started auto playing just fine. Not sure what to think now lol

Thanks, I'll keep this in mind. I'll probably mess around with some accelerator settings as I've seen that some games can take advantage of another GPU for PhysX rendering

I have run into random stutters when streaming and watching videos. And I have an extra card laying around, so why not try to do something with it?

Ah okay, this is mainly what I was curious about. So (ignoring accelerator bit here) if I just wanted to extend my display, that would relieve my 1070 completely and I wouldn't have to mess with any settings, right? (Like if I was running YouTube/streams on my 1050Ti display)

Hi friends, I've done some googling and found that it's definitely possible to use 2 different GPUs in one system. In my case, I've got a 1070 STRIX and a 1050Ti STRIX that I'd like to have running. I'm wanting to use my 1050 as a secondary monitor/hardware accelerator while using my 1070 to power my games/primary monitor. Is there anything I should be aware of going into this? I've never tried doing this before and don't really know how to dedicate certain tasks to certain GPUs, any help is appreciated.

Additional info: I was helping Alpha with this last night on Discord. His GPU fans were spinning up and his RAM and AIO were lighting up as well. Figured that if it was a GPU issue, plugging into the mobo for output would figure out that issue as his 8700K has that iGPU. But neither are working. He also plugged in the same monitor cable into his MBP and it worked fine, so it's not a cable issue. We tried reslotting the GPU which didn't make any difference either unfortunately. If it were a motherboard issue, it seems like his keyboard/mouse wouldn't be responding either, unless somehow there was a short on just the display ports? Still wouldn't make sense that neither GPU nor mobo output are detecting the monitor.

SSD: boot, stuff you use a lot, stuff that requires fast read/write speeds (rendering programs). I keep my Chrome, Steam, OBS, and editing software on my SSD for my use case. You should probably put your heavy applications on here. HDD: low read/write stuff, storing files from your programs, games should be ok in here (though I recommend upgrading that 5400rpm HDD to a 7200 as fast as possible, 5400 crawls)

Given that both devices you listed are USB, maybe one of your USB headers isn't plugged in properly?

That speed will be fine! And you can overclock the RAM after you get it without any worries as well I haven't even OC'd my 2400 and it's doing great (just been too lazy to config the settings)

Using 2400MHz for my 1300X currently, but Ryzen benefits from higher clock speeds. 3000MHz base would probably be good to buy. I personally like HyperX Fury the most, but as stated by @MiNy, Cosair Vengeance is good as well (usually a bit pricier though)

I can't tell if this is a troll at this point... PSUs do not connect to laptop motherboards. Laptop motherboards cannot fit the formfactor that desktop motherboards fit in towers. And coolers need to be hard pressed against the CPU to cool it. Again, why not just build a desktop
