  1. It's a Lian Li Lancool 2 mesh. It's mounted in the 3.5" bays using the rubber grommet mounts. There is a bit of resonance, but the majority of the sound is a metallic spinning sound. When it does eventually turn off I realise how quiet my computer can be actually is.
  2. I have plenty of fast storage. I have 2 NVME drives, (2TB and 500GB) and 1TB of SSD. Also have a 2TB 3.5" HDD, which I use to keep a local copy of family photos and videos. I use a HDD because the amount of storage is cheap and it plenty fast enough for what I use it for. However it is easily the loudest thing in my computer even though it is only 5400RPM. And even though I set the power plan to turn it off after 2 mins. Are 2.5" drives quieter? Speed is not a requirement to just store my photos etc.
  3. Hi, Is it worth upgrading my motherboard? My basic spec is as follows CPU: Ryzen 5600X MB: MSI x470 gaming carbon pro RAM: Corsair 32Gb 3600Mhz GPU: RX6800XT Storage: 2TB Corsair Gen4 NVME, 500GB WD Gen4 NVME, I was wondering if its worth upgrading my motherboard to something like a ASUS ROG Strix AMD X570-E GAMING WIFI II, or something else about the same price range. I also have my Ryzen 2600x CPU boxed up and 16Gb of decent RAM after upgrading my RAM recently. If I get a new motherboard, I could sell the old CPU, MB and RAM as a bundle. What people's thoughts? Get a new MB and send the old as a bundle, or I wont see much benefit, just sell the CPU and RAM and keep the MB.
  4. I think I will stick with the air cooler. There is no performance benefit, it will almost certainly be louder and will purely be a purchase on asthetics. I may upgrade the Motherboard. Although the x470 is working fine, it is a beta BIOS to work with the 5600X and I think the BIOS is quite generic to all of MSI's x470 motherboards. The BIOS interface is terrible and some of the improvements which were gained with previous BIOS updates were kinda lost with this beta one. Plus as I have just upgraded my RAM, it means I will have an MSI x470 motherboard, Ryzen 2600X CPU with 16GB or RAM I can bundle together and sell.
  5. Recently I've been getting a little in to RGB in my computer ( please don't judge me ). No rainbow puke but I like the ambience it can create with some subtle lighting especially when just listening to some music.. One of the down sides I have to my setup is the huge Dark Rock Pro 3 CPU cooler, it blocks much of the lighting and I am thinking of swapping it for an AIO. I know the advantages of each but just wanted to open a discussion with people in the know about these things. I've have the Dark Rock Pro 3 for well over 5 years and is probably closer to 7 years as I remember buying it not long after it was launched. it cooled my 2500K, Ryzen 2600X and now my 5600X. It has done a fantastic job and is still doing a great job. I know the 5600X doesn't generate much heat but still, I rarely hear the fans spinning up. I doubt I will get 7 years flawless usage from an AIO, but is it time to update? At the moment an AIO is overkill for the 5600X but when I do upgrades, I don't replace my entire computer at once. So this would be with my computer for the next several computer iterations. I have been given a little money for my birthday and was wondering if I should use it for this upgrade? What are people's thoughts? Is there really no need to change the cooler? Am I over estimating how much of the light the Dark Rock Pro is blocking? Would the money best be invested else where on my computer? My basic setup is Case: Lian li lancool 2 mesh. CPU: Ryzen 5600x Mobo: MSI X470 gaming Pro Carbon RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance 3600Mhz GPU; 6800XT Storage: 2TB Corsair MP600 Core NVME, 500GB WD NVME, 500GB Samsung SSD, 2TB WD HDD Cooling: 2x Corsair LL140, 4x Corsair LL120
  6. I've done that already, that's how I got the coke out, but now many of the keys feel rough when pressed, obviously the alcohol has removed any lubricant that was there. I have bought a special grease paste which is meant to be great for keys, but then I learned the key has to be out and taken apart to use, which can't be done while they are soldered on to the board
  7. I managed to clean out most of the coke when I spilt it on my keyboard but some keys feel a little rough now. I was looking at taking the keys apart to clean the insides but I cant get proper access to them without de-soldering them from the board. What is the best way of cleaning / lubricating the keys?
  8. Long story short. I wanted to try Windows 11, but did a full system backup first using the Backup and Restore. After doing the backup I checked it was there and it was listed as restore point. I installed Windows, found issues and rolled it back a few days later. Windows 10 is now not working right so I want to restore my backup from last week However now, the only restore point I am given is about a year old. In the folders of my backup I can see a folder with the name of my PC, dated a week ago and has 400GB of files there. I can also see a folder called WindowsImageBackup and in there a folders called Backup Set (date time) I reboot my computer with holding shift, go to the advanced page, select use a restore point, give my network location where it is stored and credentials, but then only lists very old restore point. Any advice what I can do. I can see the files, I can see the image folder, but its not giving it as an option to restore from it.
  9. If you're having problems I'd start by flashing your bios with the latest version and remove any overclocks on you may have.
  10. Yes it does support SAM. I'm not sure if its implementation on older chipsets gives the same boost as the 570/550 boards. It is enabled otherwise
  11. I currently have a MSI x470 Gaming Carbon Pro and using the beta firmware to run a Ryzen 5600X. Other general specs are RX6800XT Corsair 850W Power 2 Samsung SSD 1 WD NVMe SATA My question is, is it worth updating the motherboard? Would I get any benefits? Is it a good idea to just get away from relying on a Beta Firmware, which will probably never be updated again. If upgrading it is beneficial, what do you suggest? X570 or a B series? I could probably spend about £200 ($250).
  12. I have upgraded from 650Mb to 1Gb broadband. Previously with the 650Mb I was getting good speed most of the time and getting 700Mb at times. I have upgraded to 1Gb and since the the broadband has been very poor. I have called technical support who had an engineer come out to test it. He plugged in his hand held tester and their speed test was showing a steady 900+Mb When doing a speed test it will jump to 800-900Mb almost straight away but over the next 15 seconds of the speed test will just lose steam and slowly drop to 600Mb on a good day and as low as 300Mb on a bad day. My computer is wired in via a Cat7 cable. I've turned off WiFi and disconnected all the other LAN ports to make sure there's nothing else taking capacity but made no difference. I've tried all the LAN ports on the router and several different cables and all exhibit the same behaviour, a quick burst of speed at first and then loses steam. I've even tried a laptop via LAN and WiFi and they do the same. My query, could there be something on my computer which could be causing this? Would a better router help? Is there a reason his tester got a great steady 900+Mb while mine just gets slower? My basic spec is Ryzen 5600X MSI x470 Gaming Carbon Pro Motherboard.
  13. Hi, I was wondering what is a decent (free) LAN speed test. It just needs to be basic, as my IPS are are blaming my network cables for only getting 200Mb on a 1Gb internet connnection. Besides the fact all my cables are either Cat6 or Cat5e and I was getting 650Mb download before they "upgraded" my modem.
  14. I dont know how long this has been going on for but I noticed that the fans on the Performance tab of iCue, keeps disappearing and re-appearing I can be viewing the performance tab and after bout 5-10 seconds most or all the fans just disappear from the screen and then will start spinning up full speed. After anything from 5-30 seconds later, some or all of the fans will reappear in the list before a few moments later they go again. I have uninstalled iCue and reinstalled with no difference. I have tried iCue 3 and iCue 4. I did notice the description of the Commander Pro on the iCue software is called COMMANDER PRO (1) which usually means the hardware reinstalled with remanence of the old device hanging around. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks
  15. I've done desoldering before, I'd dread having to desolder all those and solding back. sigh.
  16. Thats what I thought. Its most of the keyboard, I dont fancy desoldering the whole keyboard.. Any easy way to lube the keys without dismantling
  17. I need to clean out some keys and put some lube on them. Ive seen tools to open up keys to allow you to lube the springs but they all require to do this from the bottom. Is there a way of opening up the keys from the top?
  18. I've been thinking of upgrading my CPU for a while to a Ryzen 5800X and using my MSI x470 Gaming Pro Carbon until I have the money to upgrade the Mobo. I know the bios update is to support 5000 series CPU are beta, but what have people's experience been with them so far? Is it worth it? Is it stable? Do you get most of the benefits of the CPU upgrade?
  19. Go to the same place in thieves haven and check. It is notorious location for poor performance. I'd be interested in what you get
  20. It seems the majority of the issues was being caused by Windows update KB5001330. After uninstalling the update I instantly noticed a difference in general performance. The location where the screen shot was taken I still doesn't push the GPU to 100% but it now is at over 60 FPS and other island locations its around the 100FPS mark where before it was just below 60pfs and stuttering a lot. Thanks for the help and suggestions.
  21. In Sea of Thieves, I do notice the stutter as the frame dips below 60fps at times when I cant see a reason Yes I am on an island but judging by how hard the GPU is working it should do lot more. I've overclocked my CPU to 4.3Ghz and it made very little difference so I dont think it is a bottle neck. I have added a screen shot of what I find to be the location with the biggest drop in frames. and you can see the GPU seems to be hardly trying. The MHz will bounce around the 1000-1500 mark. No other game I play does this sort of thing. I'm wonder whether it more an issue of just this game. I'd be interested to see if any nvidia owners seeing the same thing
  22. I have been questioning whether it is the CPU, its getting on a bit, but wouldn't the CPU usage be higher than 25-30% I am seeing? I even checked the core usage on Task Manager, expecting to find a couple of cores maxed out but the usage is very evenly spread Using the Gears 5, Forza 4 and Dirt 5 benchmarks, the GPU goes way over 2200Mhz and 90%+ utilisation and the CPU is at 40-60%. I am running latest drivers and there was an update just a couple of days ago. I've even tried running the game on a 1080P monitor and the performance doesn't go up that much and again the GPU metrics looks like its got its feet up enjoying a beer.
  23. Hi, I got a RX6800XT and I use a 1440 Ultrawide monitor (3440x1440). The game I play the most is Sea Of Thieves. I have noticed in more graphically challenging areas my frame rate drops to below 60FPS, however looking at the game metrics its not running at full speed. For example, these areas the clock speed will be around 1400Mhz and the GPU utilisation will be around 75%. GPU Temps will be around 70-75C and the junction temp about 80C. I have turned off any Vsync, I can find and any frame rate limit. I have set the GPU to default clock, Rage mode, overclock etc and it makes no difference. My CPU is a Ryzen 2600X, and that is showing 25% utilisation when playing. Any ideas why on more graphically challenging parts of the game the GPU seems to want to take it easy?
  24. I accidently spilled Coke on to my Corsair Strafe RGB keyboard. How best to clean it? I have removed the keys, unscrewed the keyboard and used cotton swabs and 99% IPA on the switched to try clean them up. I washed the keycaps with a bowl with warm soapy water and dried them completely before putting them back on, but some keys are right. Any suggestions how to best to clean it?
  25. Many of the important devices are wired. My main PC is wired as well as a small hub in the living room which wires the Cable TV receiver, TV and living room console, however its not possible to wire everything. Especially with home schooling and working from home, good wifi for tablets and laptops is required.
