  1. I do intend to run two drives one M.2 and a secondary SSD, the M.2 for the OS it will be a cheap 100gb drive and a 2TB SSD for storage. Is there any other services/OS's you can recommend that might make this an easier ride?
  2. Wow, thank you for the swift replies, wasn't expecting anything so quickly. I'm presuming that by going the Proxmox container route is easy enough given that's more out of my comfort zone? Also I presume it can run headless as that's my goal with this build. Given I'll be running a torrent server and Pi-hole would you recommend buying a second ethernet port (USB via ethernet) or would one be enough providing it's gigabit speeds?
  3. Hi all, I'm soon to be buying a small UFF server (HP Elitedesk 800 G2) which will run an I5 (6th Gen) and 16GB RAM. My question is not regarding the device as such and more of the server side of things. It is my intention to run the server on Ubuntu Server of which I have a fair knowledge but specifically, I'm looking to get Docker and have instances of Pi-Hole, Bitwarden & a torrent server (for legal torrents). Would such a device be able to handle these jobs and would Ubuntu / Docker be the best implementation or would it be worth going down the Proxmox route and running the instances as VM's instead? Any help or advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
  4. Budget (including currency): £250 to £300 Country: United Kingdom Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Docker, Pi-Hole, Torrenting, Bitwarden Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Good evening all, So I'm looking for a small ideally SFF style machine that can handle small jobs ideally in a Docker function which will include docker itself, Pi-hole, bitwarden, torrenting (not illegal) as well as anything else I might need in the future. I have recently been looking at the likes of eBay specifically at small HP office machines, Lenovo's etc. I figure an I5 would be more than enough for this task with 8-16GB RAM? Obviously this is the first time I'm going to be setting this up so would be guided by your input. I should note that I do have an old Intel 2600k from an old gaming machine, motherboard included but was a little hesitant about setting this up because of the power draw, I'm looking to use as little power as possible ideally. Thanks in advance

    TPM Module

It's enabled although I'm unable to see any other menus that it might come under, as you can see from the above bios image it states enabled. I'm just going to wait for the Gigabyte TPM module to arrive and attempt to use that. Just hoping it doesn't lock out my OS.

    TPM Module

But as you can see from the BIOS, it's already on but my system doesn't seem to detect it.

    TPM Module

Good evening all. Just looking for some advice please, I've recently bought a couple of games which stupidly require the secure boot process which is only offered by using a TPM module. My custom built machine does not have one however it does run Windows 11 strangely. I've managed to purchase a TPM module quite cheaply which is made by my motherboard's manufacturer so I know there won't be compatibility issues however I'm curious to know whether using a new TPM module will cause issues with my existing windows 11 installation given it deals with the boot process. Any help or advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Phizix
  8. Hi all, Rather a quick one, I'm finding that my current Samsung 970 Evo 250GB M.2 is regularly becoming full these days and I'm looking at investing in a larger drive. A friend of mine has a Samsung 980 Pro 1TB drive he's willing to let me have should I want it but I just wanted to clarify the compatibility aspect of running it in my current rig. My motherboard is a Z370 Gigabyte Aorus Gaming 7, would I get the full benefit of the M2 with this motherboard or would I only see reduced speeds? Thanks in advance, any help or assistance is always appreciated
  9. Budget (including currency): £150.00 Country: United Kingdom Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Portainer, Docker, Torrent-box, other hosted services. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Hi all, I'm currently looking to buy a small form factor PC which the intention of it being used as an Ubuntu server which will host the likes of Docker, Portainer etc. Whilst I've built systems in the past when it comes to ultra small form factor I have no clue and given my budget of £150 (at a push) I've been looking on eBay at pre-built and used systems, one that caught my eye was Lenovo M910q as you can get it with an i5 processor and upwards of 8-16GB of ram. One I'm currently looking at supports: Lenovo ThinkCentre M910q Micro (MFF) CPU - Intel Core i5 6500T Graphics - Intel HD 530 RAM - 8GB DDR4 SODIMM SSD Storage Size - 256GB SSD Video Out - 2 x DisplayPort USBs - 6 x USB 3.0 Ethernet - Yes Do you guys think that this will be enough for what I'm planning or should I be looking at a better specced CPU/Ram combo? It's an absolute longshot I realise but I do have a Q6700k laying about somewhere, I'm wondering whether a CPU swap might be possible to give it a significant bit of juice? Alternatively if you think that the machine will be too much for my intentions, I do have a Raspberry Pi 3 laying about which I could use but something tells me it might be a little underpowered in the long run? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as always! Phizix
  10. Thank you everyone! I think from the above advice I'll wait until later in the year and see what Nvidia brings out! Thanks again!
  11. Hi all, Forgive me if this question has been asked a million times already but I'm wondering what would be a suitable replacement for my EVGA GTX 1080 Ti SC2? I tend to mainly play games with the card and do the occasional hash cracking but nothing too over the top. It's currently running my Alienware AW3418DW. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Phizix
  12. Thank you very much for this, I wasn't expecting such a detailed system. Is there any recommendation on OS? As mentioned in the first instance it will be a file server but will need capability to run docker? Thanks again.
  13. Budget (including currency): £500-700 at a push Country: United Kingdom. Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Media Storage, Docker containers etc. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Hi all, long time lurker, figured I'd ask the guys (and girls) in the know about a possible new server build I'm planning. So my now very old Synology 2 drive device is on it's last legs and whilst I do love the DSM software I'm looking at building my own server to get a lot more functionality. I'm looking to put something together that will deal with media storage and playback (likely through Plex or Jellyfin) and docker containers. Not much to ask I know In terms of the drives I already have them taken care of I'll be running 4x 3GB sata drives. Things I'm ideally looking for: Case - Ideally I'd be looking for as small a form factor case as possible, ideally something around the size of the DS920+ if possible but I'm flexible. LAN - 2.5GB (it's not a deal breaker I can always get an adapter if needs be) RAM - Min 16GB. CPU - ideally an I5, incase I should increase it's workload in the future. Other than that I'm happy. Any help or assistance you can provide is welcome and appreciated. Phizix
  14. Budget (including currency): £500 Country: United Kingdom Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: File server Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Morning all, I trust you are all well in this troubling times. I'm currently running a Synology NAS which has 2 drives to it but I'm looking to upgrade as I'm finding that I'm allocating space a lot quicker than I'd have hoped. Whilst I love Synology's ecosystem I do wonder if it would be easier and better in the long run to create my own server using some old parts and some parts from Ebay or the like. The issue that I'm forsee is that I do a lot of music production and DJ'ing meaning i have to hold a lot of heavy audio files which is stressing my current NAS out. I'm wondering what kind of specs I'd realistically need to run a file server which would serve music files to my main PC and then video files to the rest of the house? I'm looking to run 4x 4GB drives with 1x 60GB ssd for the OS, what kind of raid would be best in this setup and finally can anyone recommend any software that would be best to facilitate my project? I realise this is less of a 'this is what I have created' and more of an advice post but your replies will be appreciated! Thanks again!
  15. Hands down for me NordVPN. I've used a fair few VPN's in my second job as a pentester and I can say for me the best has been NordVPN.
