  1. Let me get it out right now. I am potentially deaf in my left ear. I can hear a "little" but not much. (Chemo did most of that) My right ear has maybe 80% of hearing. So I can hear out of it, but there's a lot of "Huh?". I do wear hearing aids. But only when I go out or people come over. I live in a pretty quiet neighborhood. However, my hearing aids are not BT compatible. So, that's out. (the function was available, but would cost me $500 out of my own pocket) I recently heard about these: https://www.amazon.com/Plantronics-Voyager-Wireless-Bluetooth-Headset/dp/B00DQ5NU76/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=phonics+headset+bt&qid=1633115383&sr=8-4 I mean 4.5 stars from 22k reviews can't be wrong. Can it? There are also cheap-o brands, too.. (not really considering, even though they're ~$20) Like the above, keep it near $100, and be sure to keep in mind the top paragraph.
  2. How is the WD brand? I loved their HDDs, but how are they on SSDs? Yeah, yeah. ~$300 for all of them.
  3. Well, when you sell a sample back to get a sample, you still get a sample. Forgot about that. He said that for Whannock server, too. Silly me.
  4. Board and case was clean when I got mine. I don't know why everyone is complaining about that. Samples are different than the end product. I haven't open the h/s yet, but I don't have any liquid metal to reapply. Well, I've seen Linus use a lot of those Intel SSDs in his servers.
  5. I am building a new system. I got this last night. https://store.minisforum.com/collections/all-product/products/hx90 GREAT product. Anyone that says it's trash, I have it, so there.. SO.. I need a M.2 NVME and 2x SATA SSDs. I thought of getting 1TB of each. NVME for system and SDDs in RAID 1 (or the linux software equivelant) for backup. I have read your tier list, and yes, Samsung is best, BUT I'm getting jittery as the 850 and 870 brand is going to be bad for Linux.. I have seen several other YT members use other SSDs than the Samsung brand. Seagate, Team Group, Silicon Power, Kingston, etc. Are these actually on the same level or greater than Samsung? Price doesn't matter, but I want ~$100-$120 for each SSD. NVME and 2x SATA SSDs.

    Sound Bar?

I was actually looking at that second one..

    Sound Bar?

What brand, though? there's like 1000 differemt ones...

    Sound Bar?

I had an LG PK5, but sadly, it died. Capacitor or something blew. RIP. I DO have headphones/sets but I don't wear them 75% of the time. So a "speaker " is needed. But looking through speakers, they all look weird, and the "normal" ones are damn expensive. And most BT ones are little wanky speakers. I have been looking at sound bars. They are cheaper, and a lot of them have more functions. I did see Linus's video on them, but that was back in 2018. Lot can change in 3 years. Any recommendations here? Either NewEgg or Amazon. Looking at <=$50-75. Flexible pricing.
  9. I currently am running a Razer BlackWidow V2 Chroma. Yellow switches. I DO have a Corsair K93 (don't quote me on that) keyboard, but that has MX Red. It is way too typing fast for my liking. I DO have some Dicky (cant remember model) keyboard, with MX Brown, only shows one color, but the matter with that, I need a num pad. I use it often. I need a new keyboard, as some keys aren't responding. Way out of warranty. I would like to have USB pass through. I have my wireless mouse dongle sitting there. Also, I prefer either MX Brown or MX Blue switches. (or variants, I'm not picky) I heard DAS keyboards are good. anything around $100.
  10. Do you know a good, idk, "cage" to keep my modem, router, switch, and my UPS in? This is current layout: This is in the basement, I'm worried about everything getting clogged with dust. (like Linus' server room) All the ones I see are $150+. Is there a way I can protect these, or should I invest in a real wall-mountable case?
  11. I been looking at that, and it seems rather like what PFSense is plus a few whistles...
  12. I currently have a small AMD system that's running PFSense. It has 2x Ethernet ports. One is set to WAN, going from my Spectrum ISP Modem, other to LAN that goes into my switch. But that computer is slowly dying. Needed to reset it a few times this month. I just want something just in case, to replace this. Diagram of my network: I have heard about the Ubiquiti ER-X, BUT it has gone up $100 (to $160) since last year... Is there some better options? I have Spectrum internet, 200/11. So nothing too expensive should be needed here. Budget? ~$100
  13. I have 2 server-grade boards. 775/Socket T (was looking at this: https://www.newegg.com/thermaltake-clp0534/p/N82E16835106152) 1366/Socket B (was looking at this: https://www.newegg.com/phanteks-ph-tc12ls-bk/p/N82E16835709039) I need heatsinks for both. I want to keep this low profile, so no tower heatsinks. With the age of the CPU's, there's only a few options. Anything under $50 each, should be great. I DO understand that there are server heatsinks, As below. But I don't think they cool that well. Do they?
  14. I have most everything planned out, just need a motherboard. To get the AMD Ryzen 5000 gen, I need a B550 or X570 chipset. As X570 is upper class, and not really something I need to get into. B550 should be fine. I need at least 2x m.2 slots. As I plan to fit in my Samsung 500GB and 250GB m.2 NVME cards. I need wireless/BT, also. I prefer M-ATX. But if the price is right, I can go with a Mini-ITX or full ATX. I also hate some that have D-Sub ports. Just seems to alien for me. PS/2 ports also. WTF ever uses them anymore? I am looking at this one, 20% sale: https://www.newegg.com/asus-rog-strix-b550-f-gaming/p/N82E16813119311R Keep the price around $100-200. Any questions, ask!
  15. So does that mean you don't care about my wishes? OLOy RAM? Who are they? I NEVER heard of them. And I heard weird ones, too...
  16. Damn, I wasn't watching for that. Darn PCPartPicker.. I meant for these: https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-32gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820232748 I need 32GB, because I run a lot of VM's. And that can take up quite a bit. I thought I didn't need to include that, as in, I know what I'm getting. @Brok3n But who cares? You totally scrapped everything I just said... Why did you go for a Intel system when I posted AMD? @brobI'll look at those. Yeah, I'll bump it up to 3200. @Archer42 I know my RX 580 isn't on par with a Ryzen 4650G APU. BUT I'm not gaming any more than I used to. I know the SDDs aren't the fastest shiz, but for pure storage, I don't need the greatest speed in all the land.
  17. Budget (including currency): USD Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Light Gaming, Light Video-Editing Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): PCPartPicker Part List Type Item Price CPU AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor $194.99 @ Newegg CPU Cooler ID-COOLING IS-47K 44.3 CFM CPU Cooler Motherboard Gigabyte B550I AORUS PRO AX Mini ITX AM4 Motherboard $199.99 @ Amazon Memory G.Skill TridentZ RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-2400 CL15 Memory $159.99 @ Newegg Storage Silicon Power A55 1 TB 2.5" Solid State Drive $91.99 @ Amazon Storage Silicon Power A55 1 TB 2.5" Solid State Drive $91.99 @ Amazon Case In Win A1 Plus Mini ITX Tower Case w/650 W Power Supply $199.00 @ Amazon Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total $937.95 Generated by PCPartPicker 2021-03-02 14:52 EST-0500 This is my idea. Let me break it down for you. CPU: ACTUALLY, I want to get a Ryzen 5 PRO 4650G. But it's not listed on PCPartPicker. I want to use it's APU. It's very near in performance to my RX 580. Either from AliExpress or eBay, whatever is cheaper. CPU Cooler: I saw ETI use this heatsink and fell in love with it. Motherboard: I need a B550/X570 to use 4000/5000 Ryzen CPUs. Also with included wireless and BT. Mini-ITX, 2x M.2 Slots, 2x HDMI/DP (for my 2x 27" monitors) Memory: I love G.Skill. In my current system I am Running 4x8GB of G.Skill Trident (2600). Faster RAM is helpful to Ryzen CPUs. 3200 in this scenario. RGB is a plus. Storage: I want 2x 1TB 2.5" SSD's. For backup/games/movies purposes. These or TeamGroup has good reviews. A tad cheaper, too, than Samsung. I have a Samsung 250 and Samsung 500 NVME M.2, that I can add to motherboard. Case: I love the look on this case. It includes a 650W 80+ Gold PSU. Has 4 fan mounts in back, side, and bottom. (2 fans already inserted) Plus the RGB looks awesome! I don't think any of my phones use wireless charging. Oh well. Also, I'm not the brightest on fans. I heard Noctua is some of the best, and I have several left over from older builds. But as RGB is crucial here, what are the best fans? Thermaltake? BeQuiet? Corsair? I see those cheap/odd-named ones on Newegg/Amazon. But that's probably what they are, cheap.. Anything I left out or overlooking, let me know.
  18. I have rather small hands for my age (35). BUT I felt those controllers with my cousin's one, and they just never fit right. So I tried the pro controller she had, and I was right at home. I'm a retro guy. NES, SNES, N64, PS/2, GB PSP, etc. I just loved the way the SNES controller felt.
  19. I am not afraid of refurbished products. I have a LOT of devices that were refurbished around here. 90% of them still work to this day. Now, should I buy a new Nintendo Switch off the shelf from, say BestBuy? OR should I get it used from, say eBay? Should I get the whole shebang, or just the tablet? Buy the dock, pro controller (I hate the numchucks) separately? Anyone know about these, please? (I'll buy the games separate)

    New Headset

Yeah, I see ones on eBay for ~$50, and ones on NewEgg/Amazon for ~$80
  21. Mind_001

    New Headset

I LOVE my bluetooth LG PK5 speakers, BUT... I have hearing issues, and I have to turn it up a little bit to hear anything. YT vids, Spotify, Movies, etc. I know my Mom doesn't care, but I kinda want her to hear silence.... Would a headphone be a better option? I DO have my old Kraken headset, (2013, maybe?) but the issue with that, is that the earmuff's are worn down quite a bit, top is nearly broken, and it has a USB connection, not the normal audio plug. I'm no audiophile, so any quality would be OK for me. I prefer over the head design. I have bought several things refurbished, so I'm not scared of that. If I can get a good deal, yippee! Try to keep it under $100 unless there's a reason. Any questions, ask away!
  22. That's what I heard, too...
  23. I am not a network guy. I do build computers, but in setting up networks and extra fiasco isn't my forte. Basics of setting up PfSense, I can do, but to further configure it, I'm scratching my head. I have 2 motherboards/CPU/RAM. These are server grade boards. I received both from a friend. 1. SuperMicro X7SBL-LN2, LGA 775/Socket T, Intel C2D E2140 (I do have a X3330 laying around that I might use), and 4GB DDR2 800 non-ECC (tried putting EEC RAM in, but won't post) 2. SuperMicro X8ST3-F LGA1366/Socket B, Xeon W3520, 12GB DDR3 RAM ECC Now then, what can I do with these, in a home setting? I always wanted to make my own NAS. But the problem with the first one, I don't have enough RAM if I wanted to go ZFS. Set up a surveillance server? Minecraft server? F@H server? Give me ideas. I do have a Pi4 that I can install PiHole on... If I left out something, ASK!
  24. You even look at it? See the thing on the left side, that is smaller than the AMD heatsink that came with the 2000 series. The 4000 series are actually cheaper but punch a hell lot more. And being their low wattage usage. I think you quoted the wrong part...
  25. Money is unsure atm. Let's keep it around $1,000 (USD) I plan to build this early in Spring 2021, but, for now, I need help choosing parts. Don't rely on sales, as they jump up and down throughout the year. OK, let's start out with the motherboard/case: https://www.newegg.com/asrock-deskmini-x300w/p/N82E16856158068?Item=N82E16856158068 I can get either a 4650G or 4750G on AliExpress for ~$100 cheaper than Newegg. So let's go with the Ryzen 7. For heatsink, the included one looks dinky. The one UFD suggested, on YT, looks amazing. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B087Q2QW1L/?coliid=I1BDD2DLXUXD5F&colid=FGSUCA6RSQR9&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it So as I heard, the Ryzen CPU's need fast memory to work well. So 3200rpm is it's highest. Was thinking of this: https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-64gb-260-pin-ddr4-so-dimm/p/N82E16820374025?&quicklink=true As I always liked G.Skill RAM. And 64GB just for esthetics. (sp?) I currently have 32GB, and using about half of it. As for storage, I do have a 512GB Samsung 750 Evo M.2 NVME (I think that's right) but with the above system, it takes 2x M.2 NVME slots and 2x SATA ports. The board also does RAID 0/1. So, maybe I can use another 512 M.2 for my OS, and get 2x SATA SSD's, both 1TB. As for brand, I am not sure, as I heard several years ago that Samsung was king, but nowadays, there are more brands just as good for a fraction of the price. Can I get some help here? I know someone will say things about this being small, waste of money, BUT it packs a punch that might get to you one day...
