Hello
here is my spec:
Asus Z170 Pro Gaming
I7 6700K
16Gb of ram
2 R9 280x Xfire configured video cards
5 Drives (mixed 2 SSD's and 3 HDD's one SSD is in the M.2 slot) - i have checked the motherboard documentation on Asus site the lanes wont be used for this slot if ssd is inserted
i have few issues one is major and the others are less noticeable:
first is when restarting windows after the screen goes black and the bios should start the PC it stays in this state until turned off or restarted manually then bios says you need to enter bios to tweak OC settings as the system halted or were restarted due to problems with OC settings (as described i don't think its OC issue as the system did not halted or crashed or turned off due to overheating) (please note that i don't use OC for cpu all settings are on auto in bios and no windows software for Oc'ing the cpu i only set the memory for xmp in bios)
the other issue i experienced lately is PCIE slot working at X2
when i have noticed this i checked bios for power settings windows for power settings and other configuration, worth writing that i installed new Radeon drivers without using clean install and it removed the crossfire option entirely from general settings
so.. i decided to check my main PCIE slot
i completely disconnected the second video card and booted the pc, the pc booted using the onboard video card
i disabled it manually and retried got the same result... i switched the video cards used the second one to check it out.. and recieved the same result: motherboard uses the onboard video card when only one video card is inserted
so i decided to go for the dual cards again: i have switched the places between the video cards and now it works on X4 instead on X8
the Pc restarts is less important to me, i was considering buying a new video card as crossfire in gaming being eliminated slowly (i notice it a lot in new game releases) but now i wonder why the motherboard acts like that with one video card
any advice and ideas will be welcome to try and figure out why the PCIE slot works on less then 8X
Thank you
