  1. So here is the story. I currently able to pickup a bunch of old SAS drives (SFF\2.5" 600gb 7.2k sas6) for absurdly low price (like US$10 a pop) and i'm looking to build home server for storing backups etc. I kinda like Fractal's Node 304, but HDD trays there is designed for 3.5" HDD and uses bottom holes of disk to mount, but idea of having 12 SFF HDD in such small case tickle my imagination. So now i'm in a hunt of adapter\caddy which: a) Can accept two 2.5" drives b) Has ability to install on tray using bottom-positioned holes of caddy like on 3.5" HDD Using my google how-to i'm unable to find anything suitable for my purpose.
  2. DDR3 ECC actually dirt cheap right now, sometimes even cheaper than non-registered RAM
  3. How about make a valid cert from Let's Encrypt? It is not so complicated and works very well (I running this personally on Exchange 2010 On-Prem). The only issue is you must update IIS to 8 in order to autorenewal to work(or just renew cert manually every 2-3 mounts).
  4. Actually, as a storage of SQL database it's might be a very good idea. I'd like to see tests of these optanes with SQLIO (a simple guide for that is here) or raw DiskSPD results with run settings like these (see spoiler). If there is ability to run tests in Raid 1\10 - i'd appreciate that.
