  1. do you think it can get my chip to 4ghz, or is it just "the silicon lottery" type thing?
  2. Heya! I am looking to overclock an old i7-920 to 3.8-4.2 GHz on an air cooler. This is a bit rough, because most air coolers for overclocking are very expensive, and my budget is about $30-$40. Do you happen to know any good air coolers, fitting LGA 1366 that can stay within my budget, keep it under 80 c under full load, and take the crazy overclock on this old chip? The hyper 212 series fans look good, and so does the Cryorig H7, although I do not know if they can take such an overclock. Thank you! -Noah
  3. Still no luck, and I don't know if I have the patience to buy more RAM, I just want to know why it doesn't work. I will test the stick in a different computer
  4. Hello Community! I know my pc has a trash motherboard. I know it has a trash CPU. Just don't comment on that, I made a mistake. The issue is, I had a Pentium E5300 that came with my motherboard when I got it used on EBay (HP Pegatron IPIEL-LA3), and it was terrible and not capable of anything. It however, was working with 7 gigabytes (1gb 1066mhz ddr3, 1gb 1066mhz ddr3, 4gb 1600mhz ddr3, 1gb 1066mhz ddr3), and my new processor (Intel Core 2 Quad q9300) cannot take my 4gb stick. I cannot game with 4gb (I had an extra 1gb stick that was exactly the same as the others), as my ram was filling up to fast and causing freezing in game. Why is my 4gb stick not working? I seriously think it is ridiculous that I cannot upgrade my PC without another downgrade. This has happened a few times with other parts in this pc.
  5. Just earlier a few weeks ago I got a XFX Radeon RX 560D 2GB Brand New for only $114. It is now a dollar more and it is almost sold out. Not the best deal, but it is enough until I can get a decent GPU. Used to be over 100 available, now only 4 left. https://www.colamco.com/xfx-rx-560d4sfg5-graphic-card-rx560d2sfg5-1524858
  6. Hello! I tried to mod my motherboard (HP Ipiel-la3 https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01746799) so it could take a faster LGA 771 Xeon, even though it is LGA 775. This did not work out, but that is mostlikely because I did not install the microcode for the Xeon. Before I waste all of my thermal paste, has anybody ever owned this motherboard and modded it? I highly doubt it, but it is worth the ask.
  7. Either way, I just realized, I would have to buy 8gb ddr4. That is really hard to come by for a decent price, and that is more time I need to save up. This seems like a good option, I will try to do some research to see what I can get. Would you say that 3ghz should be the least I can take, or does it not matter as much as just getting the quad core upgrade?
  8. I am only 13. Maybe I should try a cheaper processor, and if it is not good, then I will get a Ryzen 5 1600. Which, of course, I will have to save for.
  9. Should I be able to play Fortnite or Subnautica on medium/high settings?
  10. Literally, this is my motherboard https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01746799
  11. I will have to change my motherboard. I might as well just stay with my current setup, I only have like, $20.00. I am a sad excuse of a gamer :'(
  12. Is the Q6600 a better option, or no?
  13. Hello! I just bought (somehow) a brand-new RX 560D (Rebranded 460) during the past few weeks. This is good, and it is definitely better than what I was playing on before, but I have an issue. I, being pretty new with building PCs, thought that my computer was having a hard time because of my graphics card, but I think I was wrong, although the graphics definitely where terrible. I have been living the past five months gaming with my dads old GTX 460, and a motherboard and stuff I got for an amazing deal. The GTX 460 was freaking slow, and definitely needed an upgrade. The processor I was using came with my motherboard and RAM. I got my motherboard, 8 GB DDR3 RAM, and a Pentium E5300, for only $25.00 USD. Online, I saw that the RX 560D (RX 460) could game in most games with outstanding performance, and it was perfect for me, so I bought it. The performance is better, but definitely not tip-top, and I think it is the CPU. Dual core, 2.6ghz, it is not so beastly. The question I am asking here is, would it be better to keep what I have, or with the little bit of money I have (about $20.00) try to get a Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4ghz? I tried to get a 3ghz Xeon to mod to LGA775, but it did not work. I just need to know my best option, and I am still new at this.
