    I have experienced this at work on an old HP amd cpu - taking off the the cooler ripped the CPU out of the socket with a couple bent pins. I got the the CPU and heatsink apart with a razor blade.  Maybe soak the blade in isopropyl and push the blade between the cooler/CPU to see if you can work some isopropyl down into the crack to start breaking down the thermal paste.
