Budget (including currency): sub 250 EUR for mainboard, cpu and ram Country: Germany Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Steam cache, 2 Discord bots and a few small scripts Other details Main focus should be energy consumption and speed. Physical size or looks doesnt matter too much Hello guys, i want to build a small ish storage and home automation server, it will have a 2tb ssd for storage and a 2,5gbit network connection to my main pc as well as a 1gbit connection to the rest of my Home Network. Its main purpose will be as a steam cache, as my Internet connection has only 100mbit/s download and no way to upgrade it for less than 6k EUR for a fiber connection. Other uses will mostly be some home automation stuff and 2 discord bots, as that currently runs on a xeon e5 2680, which draws a lot of power and heats my room up quite a bit. As an OS id prefer some linux variant as i already have some experience with it. My question is, if that will work at full speed (500MB/s) as well on ARM hardware or if there would be drawbacks like speed constraints.

Budget Home server CPU/MB/RAM combo
SomeGermanGuy replied to SomeGermanGuy's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
That should work, because a 4770 isnt weak but it's a quad core, which is probably not enough for a game server and a nas at the same time. -

That's for the minecraft server, which probably needs most if not all of that pc. I want to buy another server for astroneer/space engineers and the nas portion -

Probably less than 5, but it (obviously should run smoothly so imma say -
Guys (and Girls), I need some tech tips/help. I currently have a minecraft server running on a I7 2600 and 8gb DDR3 ram. But the Mainboard is dying and the Psu is kinda janky. I already bought an used Optiplex 7010 with an i7 3770 and 16gb of ram, which I could use as an replacement. But I also want to (at least temporarily) host an astroneer and/or space engineers server for me and my friends, plus I want to have a NAS for my family. I already have an 4x1Gbit network card and a few hard drives for the NAS (4x1tb sata to be exact). The case has enough space for an ATX Mainboard and PSU, as well as 9x5,25" external bays which I want to use for my hard drives. Now to my Question: which CPU/Mainboard/RAM combo would be suitable for me? I was thinking of something like an older xeon with a lot of pcie lanes and boost clock of 3ghz or sth like that. Ryzen was also an idea but then I'd need to add and a gpu which would take up 8 of the already few 24 or so pcie lanes, sooo yeah its not that great of an option I think I would like to spend less than 200 euros on it and I'm fine with used hardware. But if it REALLY worth to spend more on it, I could do it.

Yes, I actually dont need that as a feature, but it would be nice

Hi, so Im using Spacedesk x10 as an app to use my Tablet as a secondary screen, the problem is that my Wifi cant keep up with the amount of data and it regulary drops the connection. The idea I have is to use my 5Ghz Wifi stick to create a kind of "Hotspot" (Im sorry, i dont know what to call it), so I can have a direct Wifi connection to my tablet, which should result in a less laggy and much crisper Image. An additional thing I would like it to have is the ability to hide the wifi network, so it wont show up on everyones phone when im using it. Apps i have tried: Connectify (free version sucks, i dont want to pay 20 USD or sth like that) Virtual Router Manager (doesnt work properly, only 2,4Ghz network for some reason)

You dont need a high end cpu (or gpu for that matter) for audio production. I would rather recommend something like a R5 3600 and use the saved money to buy a good external DAC and good speakers/ Headphones. Im not an Audio expert so please get a second oppinion on this matter before deciding.

I would check out Ikea, they have big black tables which are beefy enough for supporting a pc and a couple monitors. Im using a small Ikea desk (120x60cm) which is easily supporting an asus pg348q and my main rig (about 15kg). You can get bigger desk sizes like 150x75 or 200x60, if you want/need that much deskspace.

gpu with Gsync vm passtrough/requirements
SomeGermanGuy replied to SomeGermanGuy's topic in Graphics Cards
I just dont want to reboot and switch on the fly. -
Im thinking about migrating from windows to linux on Ryzen (currently an r5 1600x, switch to r7 3700x likely) I want to have a "gaming vm" running for my games with my gtx 1080 as a passtrough gpu. I need to buy a host gpu, but I dont know which one, because i want to keep gsync. Is this even possible?

I want to buy a 4TB HDD. I found two from Seagate at my prefered reseller with almost the same specs. The only difference in specs is that one has 64MB of cache, the other has 256MB. The 64MB model is 5 euros cheaper (at 95 euros) than the 256MD model So my question is does more cache make an actual difference? 64MB model: Seagate ST4000DM005 256MB model: BarraCuda ST4000DM004
