  6. I can't decide which design of 3080 would work best with my PC (image attached I think). It's either gonna be the ROG Strix one or the Founders card. Which would work best with the aesthetic?
  7. no I was only sending the vertices to be rendered to the GPU buffer, not the whole object lol. Turns out my problem was with STL vectors being awful and having an arbitrary cap before they rejig their memory and lose some data. I don't really get why, but I needed to resize it to accomodate all of the chunks being held before it was written to. I thought it'd automatically d othis, but no. of course not.
  8. I got it working! Create all the objects first and then allocate VRAM to each afterwards!
  9. I haven't come across STLs before, what are they? Also, I believe I've narrowed the problem down to timing issues, as if I increase the number of chunks, the number of allocated buffers seems to be a quarter of what it should be.

I'm trying to create a rendering engine similar to that of minecraft (i.e saves the world in 16*16 chunks and all that stuff) and I've just began to start trying to generate multiple chunks into a std::vector. The issue is that I'm assigning each sub-chunk (16*16*16 blocks, 8 per chunk at the moment) its own vertex buffer, but some of the chunks seem to be assigning themselves buffers that are already in use. Is there a limit on the number of vertex buffers in OpenGL? If so, how could I bypass this?
  11. You'd most likely struggle to multitask (i.e. gaming and watching YT on a second monitor simultaneously) but for just gaming that's a decent setup. Obviously a CPU upgrade in the future is recommended, but not necessary right now.
  12. Gaming predominantly, I wanna use them epic Minecraft shaders you get me. And I'd prefer NVidia, I've heard some horror stories with AMD cards, and I've generally been happy with my NVidia cards over the past decade or so
  13. A few suggestions/things to check: - Drivers. Old drivers, or ones that come with windows rather than the manufacturers themselves, can be a major issue. I've had games unexpectedly quit, and freeze before. Not sure if this could actually shut the PC down, but it's worth checking this either way. - Get CrystalDiskInfo or something to make sure your SSD is working normally. My 970 Evo, which seems to be pretty comparable to yours, runs at about 70°C at most, so if it's a lot more than that, check airflow to the drive. Also maybe make sure the heat sink is making proper contact if you are using the M.2 with the heat sink slot on your board. - Reseat RAM, CPU, GPU, all that stuff. Also PSU cables can be a bit dodgy if not in properly, although unlikely for your situation. - Underclock stuff if possible, as if this improves things this implies a PSU or cooling issue that can be looked into more in depth. - If your PSU or mobo supports it, check to see what voltages the PSU is actually supplying. I've had it in the past where I was actually getting closer to 15V on the 12V line which fried my CPU. If none of these work, then sorry.
  14. They are a lot less common these days seeing as that platform is pretty old, but there's probably some stuff on the second hand market. I believe manufacturers have stopped making these boards by now.
