@Caroline For a modern, mainstream distro, ~half a gig of ram at idle is pretty low. By comparison, Gnome easily gobbles up over 1gig at idle. Still nothing like Windows 10, eating upwards of 2-3GB from cold-boot, lol. What kind of laptop are you running with 500MB ram or less? And what OS are you running on it?

@Caroline You'd be better off with this, TBH. Mint Cinnamon uses a bit more ram (600-700MB usually at idle). You could also try KDE Neon which is even more slim on ram (400-500MB at idle) and fairly easy to run. But yeah, unfortunately any browser is going to suck up a lot of ram. Can you upgrade the ram, maybe? Also, running a 32-bit distro also tends to use less ram.
