  1. You answered your own question. "it doesnt fit my needs right now" So the answer is no. It's not.
  2. Hey man, so just to settle this, i have recently tested a bunch of stuff with adobe premiere and after effects. First off, if you arent using cs6 you are going to have to find a hack script to enable cuda usage in adobe and even then, sometimes it doesnt work. If you are a beginner, im assuming that you dont do 5 day renders in 3Ds max, or a ton of 3D work, which means that you will be fine with the consumer products and not have to get a tesla card like one of the quadro workstation cards. For your 660ti vs. 650ti scenario here, and based off the fact that you said you primarily use premiere, i would suggest that you actually get a GTX660 (non-ti). This is really going to hit the sweet spot for you. Not too high of a price, (enough to DEFINITLY go for intel over AMD) but you also get great performance. A buddy of mine actually ordered the wrong cards and ended up with one 660 and one 660ti, so i decided to test them in adobe and see the difference. To be honest, rendering a 1GB video at h.264 encoding, there was about a 10 second difference... and that was with ray tracing in after effects ON. so you can see, there really is no performance gain to the ti. The 660 also allows you the ability to create an SLI solution in the future if you ever get more heavily into 3D and need the power inside of after effects, because after effects is the only program (which i just learned) that is able to support TWO gpus. And on the gaming side of things, it has been tested by anyone who is anyone that 2 660's in SLI creates BETTER performance than a gtx680 just for reference. As an everyday video editor and user of adobe premiere and after effects, i do have to say that i think this is your best bet. Buy a NICE GTX660 save that $100 vs. a ti, go ahead and grab that 3770k. (or if you really want to get the best for editing, the 3930k) and have a GREAT system. Another reccomendation that i would have to make is an SSD if you do not already have one. SSDs help adobe products run SO much faster and cleaner when you are doing your renders. My last note is about the Multi-Core stuff. I am actually running an 8120, and i wish i would have saved up and just got the i7. an 8120 (although 8 physical cores) is really about 6 cores, because each of the bulldozer modules is about 1.5 cores. In an Intel 3770k, you get the advantage of Hyper Threading to unlock 4 virtual cores along with your TRUE 4 physical cores. Now, adobe products do not see either one of these as a benefit over the other. It just sees 8 cores, it doesnt care how they are made. So the Intel 3770k is still your best bet. And of course the 3930k is definitly the best of the best. But honestly, for the kind of work you and I do... a 3770k is more than enough. I hope, as an actual editor myself, that i helped you out here. Any other questions feel free to ask.
  3. I had this crazy idea in my head... not sure how it got there, but could you just buy a ton of heatshrink in different colors and just sleeve a whole cable with it? It would be alot less work, and i think that matte color look would look amazing, especially because heat shrink doesnt have any writing on it. so it would be completely solid. And with all the colors of heat shrink that are now available, you could do whatever you want. But im not a mod guy, so i dont even know if this would work. Would it still be able to bend the same and stuff? Idk... so thats why im asking! Thanks
  4. I feel like these processors are going to be a matter of "well they are the same price, and this one is just SLIGHTLY better, so i might as well get this one." but it wont alienate Ivy Bridge by any means. Just wait for Ivy Bridge - E...those things are gonna fly
  5. Going to college for a Masters in Software Engingeering
  6. Hmm... i dont know then man, thats really wierd. Maybe try uninstalling and then reinstalling the firmware again(keeping the new fans attached)
  7. guys this was answered a week ago, thanks for the help, but i already have it up and running
  8. Basically, i just picked up a pretty nice Linksys lan card, and i would like to know if i can hook up an ethernet cable to the card AND to my onboard lan to gain performance? Or will it just take the lan off of one of the ports. I have TWO cables running into my room so thats not a problem, now that i figured out my switch :)
  9. Hmm... and i know this is going to sound stupid.. but you made sure that they are connected correctly right?
  10. hmm... i see no reason why it wouldnt let you. You have the h80i plugged into the USB header, and to the 4 pin cpu fan header correct? Try and unplug everything, and then re connect everything. But remember that you must shut down your computer first.
  11. Did you connect them to the leads that come off of the H80i? Or just into fan headers on your board?
  12. Anders - you have to replace the firmware file, not delete the old one. Download the firmware file from the link i provided, and then in Corsair Link, go to settings, and click on the "Update Firmware" under h80i. and then find the file that you downloaded. Head- Glad to help!
  13. This sucks. I have been waiting for these Ivy Bridge- E cpus... i wanted to build a new computer for college.
  14. Thank you Magic8Ball. Yes, there is no such thing as a 7980. i was just using as a reference between 7990 and 7970.
  15. move it away from your desktop, and then see if it works. And I had to uninstall and reinstall corsair link too.
  16. The guy hasnt posted in this thread for a WHILE, i am gonna highly doubt this is happening.
  17. No, what he is saying is that you can overclock a 7950 to the performance (or close) of a 7970. With a 7970 you can STILL overclock, but probaly up around a 7980 ish. So no matter what the 7970 is the better card, but if you just want the 7970 performance, then buy A GOOD 7950 with a good cooler, and overclock it to the 7970 specs.
  18. Did you create a new partition for that second Samsung 1TB yet? If you havent, there ya go, thats the problem.
  19. Anders, your situation was the same as mine. And then there was no update so i was stuck with no controlability. Make sure to DELETE the old firmware file, i have heard of numerous times where link is still using the old on when it says that it is using the new one. That could be your problem. And to HEAD, you can do it in Corsair Link 2.2.0 which you can find under the downloads section on the Corsair H80i product page on their website.
  20. stratez and bakaarts are some of my favorite youtube channels for photoshop tutorials. One of the most important things to get it you dont have it already is a TON of fonts. Just youtube, font pack and it will come up with a bunch or channels for guys that give away GFX packs and stuff like that.
  21. I apologize,i dont know the rates for how much a euro is compared to a USD but, the Canont3i (550D) is a FANTASTIC camera, at an unbeatable price. it usually will come with a 18-55mm lens that in my opinion is very good, and isnt just an old standard kit lens. It may be a little out of your price right now, but i HIGHLY suggest continuing to save money, because it is worth it. This camera will last you a long time, and it can accomodate any Canon lens, so you can always keep buying new lenses. Any more questions feel free to let me know.
  22. I dont know if this is gonn mean anything to you, but my h80i running push pull at 1000rpms is doing great. Its kept my cpu running at below 55 degree C and thats even when i run prime 95
  23. The socket area is very cool. I have tons of cooling in my case. It may be a prime 95 thing i guess... but for now i just turned down the clock, and it is running fine with no DOA's. Kinda dissapointed that i can only get to 4.0ghz though.
  24. In reference to Haswell being an overclockers dream, they have said that each CPU will be already based a higher stock clock rate. probaly around 3.8 or 3.9, and that the cpu voltages will be able to be stretched farther than before. Haswell is also supposed to run alot cooler, meaning you can use that voltage potential. I for one am going to wait for the new CPU's and the z87 platform to come out for sure because i am about to upgrade my system, but i feel the wait is going to be worth it. Although, we still have yet to hear any news about IVY BRIDGE - E, which has been talked about, but no release date. Because those things are going to FLY when they come out.
