What would you use this "old" computer for?

I don't need macOS, I just think it's a really smooth OS. I'm quite happy to stick to Windows if it means better performance.

I do need Google Docs, most of my work is on there, and I can't move it, because its school files, not mine

Not looking to go Hackintosh, just want a Windows computer that can trade blows with that Macbook.

Hi all. So recently my laptop has started breaking, and while its being diagnosed I thought I should look at alternatives. My friend suggested the Macbook Pro (note that he only has Apple computers). Now I think the 13inch base model would be the most expensive I can go, keeping in mind I need adapters. I have a love/hate relationship with Apple. I've never owned an Apple product, I find them too expensive. However I really like Mac OS, and the features. I also like the way it's made, and the build quality (I'm aware the keyboards can break). Not to mention the screen, which is incredible. Can anyone find a laptop that is better than the 13 inch base model Macbook Pro? I use my laptop mainly for web browsing and working on Google Docs. I occasionally play a few games on it, probably Minecraft. And if I get a Windows PC I'll probably play offline CSGO (I'm terrible at CSGO if you're wondering) TLDR: show me a Windows laptop that is better than the base model Macbook Pro Note: it has to be 14 inch or under.

I don't have access to my laptop sorry. I do know that it had a 500GB SSD. I don't know which one though, Task Manager said it was a Toshiba 128GB M.2 SSD, which is wrong.

In my experience this means that the storage used has become disconnected in some way. It could also be that they simply can't be read by the computer, suggesting either damage to the storage, or a problem with the BIOS. This is also happening to my Dell laptop right now

Hi all. So my laptop (Dell E5470, i5 6300U, 8GB RAM, 500GB SSD (upgraded by my store) 1366 x 768 res) has been having serious problems for a few weeks. At the start of this year it started blue screening for no reason. I took it to my store, and they tested it for 2 weeks, but they found no problems. (they said they cleaned it out though). After that it was fine until a month ago, when it started blue screening again. I took it to my store (PB Tech) and the tech support guy suggested that I should reset it. I did this and it seemed fine over the holidays, but as soon as I started using it at school the blue screens started happening again. I got several different messages over the few weeks this has happened (MEMORY_MANAGEMENT, SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION). If I shut the screen, which is meant to put it to sleep, it sleeps, then when I lift it back up I just get a black screen with the cursor. Occasionally it freezes up as I try to sign in. Occasionally when I start it up it comes up with a message that says "Boot Drive not Detected" and a few function options for rebooting and system diagnostics. Note: I intend to take it to my store, but if its a simple solution that I can do myself then I'll do it. I am quite happy to take off the back panel. Note2: Warranty ran out a while ago

He currently has a GTX 1660 Ti. The GTX 780ti broke.

Hi all Now, I know a mouse is a personal thing in regards to the shape and the looks, but would anyone be able to give some recommendations? I'm looking for build quality, with a good sensor. I would prefer it to be wired. RGB, extra buttons and DPI switching are added bonuses. My budget is 60NZD, (40USD). (I don't intend to by it at full price, I'm going to wait for a discount.)

Hi all Recently my laptop has been doing bad things, so I'm thinking about a new one. It will be used for schoolwork, web browsing and light gaming (Minecraft, maybe some mobile games). The main thing I'm looking for here is reliability. It needs to last a while. Here are some other requirements: Under 1600NZD (1060USD) At least 8GB of RAM, but the more the better Good WiFi connectivity At least 256GB of storage At least a 1080p screen Good battery life Good build quality. I would prefer a metal chassis, but as long as its well made I can accept a plastic one. And some nice to haves: Windows Hello, or a fingerprint reader, or something like that Good I/O (don't mind dongles, but they aren't free) Good looks. I prefer function over form, but if it looks good I won't complain. Dedicated GPU. I don't really need it, please consider all the other things first. PLEASE NOTE I LIVE IN NEW ZEALAND

Hi all So earlier today my RX480 died (read about that here) TL;DR fans turn on, no output though, screen went dead in middle of gaming. I was wondering if there is anything I can try before taking it apart? Note: I'm intending to take it apart if there's no other option, as there is a small possibility that there's just a bit of loose solder, which I might be able to fix.

I used a spare GPU (the only other GPU in the house, and RX460) to test the slot. Even though the card has no drivers it ran fine, which means its a problem with my GPU. I'm going to take it to my local PC store and see if they can fix it. If that doesn't work, I don't have a PC, as I don't have the money to buy a new GPU. Oh well.

Unfortunately I don't have a spare oven lying around, and I'm not too experienced with soldering. Not to mention I don't have access to any moderately useful soldering irons anywhere.

I was told by members of this forum and on other forums that it was fine. Yes, I know that not everyone is right, but I believe that a YouTuber did a test and found that it was no more stressful than running a game, although for mining its just longer times

Hi all. So about 15 minutes ago I was quite happily playing World of Tanks on my computer (specs in signature), when suddenly my display freaked out, then went black, then showed "HDMI Power Saving Mode" (no HDMI input). I was still hearing in game sound, and I was still interacting with the game, but no display. Everything was plugged in properly. I then shut down my PC by holding down the power button, after which I turned it back on. There was one long beep, followed by two short beeps. I researched this on the Gigabyte website, this means "Graphics Card Problem". So I opened my case up, turned the PC off and on again, but this time it was one short beep which means "All is well". I then plugged in my monitor... nothing. Restarted again.... nothing. The GPU was lighting up and everything, just no display. I then used my integrated graphics, and it was fine. I've reset the BIOS, I've re-seated my GPU. What can I do next, or is my GPU dead? Note: I overclocked my GPU to 1400MHz core and 2050MHz memory. I also increased it's power limit to max, but left the voltage at stock, with this configuration it's been running fine in all my stress tests and gaming over about 2 months. Note2: It is an ex-mining card, but the card BIOS is reset to normal, and the card otherwise performs as normal. The motherboard BIOS is also the latest one (F15)

Out of my price range I'm afraid, although I'l keep it in mind if my budget increases
