  1. I game in 1440p on a 165 hz display. Mostly play PUBG these days. which gets about 120fps avg. 100 low. (mixed medium, high, and very low settings) A 1080 will be fine, but if you really want to get up to 165 Hz in 1440p for AAA titles, i'd reccomend a 1080ti and 8700k or 8600k OC'd to 5 GHz. If you just plan on playing seige, a 1080 (non ti) would be fine.
  2. 27" may be too big for you in 2560x1440 if 17.75" feels just right for you in 1920x1080. Its mostly personal preference. If there's a computer store near you, maybe its worth checking to see if they have any 2560x1440 displays that you can demo to see if its right for you.
  3. It's nice size for 2560x1440. Text and windows UI is a pretty good size and doesn't require much if any adjustment. It's considered by many to be the "Sweet Spot" for 1440p kind of like how 24" was considered to be the sweet spot in size for 1920x1080
  4. damn... perhaps gigabyte can help? if you recently purchased the motherboard as new, the retailer may be able to help too.
  5. I just thought the concept was really cool tbh. Who knows, future models may be superior and more affordable!
  6. This thing looks pretty awesome. You can create your own double sided (2 layer only) PCBs using pre made "blank" FR-4 sheets. It even does fairly small width traces (8 mils) https://www.voltera.io/
  7. Okay, well I agree about the 1080 armor, absolutely, but I wasn't saying anything about how fast it takes to dissipate the heat? I was talking about how long it takes the cooler to get to its max temperature. Which is what I thought you meant when you said "fully saturated"
  8. ?? literally any air cooler gets fully saturated in matter of seconds when under load. Time it takes to "saturate" saturate a heat sink for an air cooler is completely irrelevant. They're probably literally the exact same cooler... the problem is you cant say the cooler is bad just cause it didn't do well thermally on a 1080. There is a huge difference in the watts of power from a 1080 and a 1060. The 1080 used 50% more power AKA 50% more heat. It just doesn't have enough cooling capacity for a 1080 its as simple as that. according to techpowerup, under full load, the 1060 Armor operated at a cool 70C at just 34 dBA in their testing. It really all depends on the case cooling too.
  9. I misunderstood.. so ignore the strikethrough text. But yeah, you're right. It might need to be the lower power stuff. Interestingly the motherboard's RAM QVL says it supports some regular DDR3 as well? http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Memory/mb_memory_ga-b150m-d3h-ddr3.pdf Normal DDR3 has the same notch position as the DDR3L in the normal form factor but neither of these match the DDR4 notch. Not only that, the pin layouts are different. https://superuser.com/questions/950163/is-ddr4-ram-compatible-in-a-ddr3-ram-slot
  10. Oh.. Well that is agreeable. Its cheaper, but not as cheap as a few of their lower end designs such MSI Phoenix or MSI OC designs.
  11. You may want a second opinion on this Then.. I'm not professional when it comes to this stuff. Just an enthusiast. Does the notch on the RAM match up with the notch in the slot?
  12. That's not what I meant. the DDR3L and DDR3 have the Same keyed notches. The DDR3L and DDR4 have different notches.
  13. The full length ones wont fit or work at all they have different keying cutouts.
  14. @KenjiUmino DDR3 isnt even compatible with Kaby lake. Only the mini DDR3L low voltage RAM can work. They literally wont fit. The keying isnt the same.
  15. Kaby lake only works with DDR3L (the mini ones), and isnt compatible with regular DDR3. They shouldnt even fit in the DIMMs ???
  16. Nothing concrete regarding this, but the next generation has been rumored to be releases this July. Depends on who ya ask TBH...
  17. You could sell the existing hard drive and put the money toward an additional 4GB? Its a lot easier to do that then to find a pre-built with the exact config you need. You could get some new on Newegg for $30
  18. @TheGlenlivet Come to think of it, at least one SATA port with a right angle connector would fit under the video card.
  19. Damn This Lenovo M72e for $130 seems to check all the boxes?? long PCIe cards (will block 2/3 SATAs, but one of the blocked ones can be used with right angle connection) AND has PCIe X16 and X1's Not sure where you're going to fit all those drives though. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Lenovo-Thinkcentre-M72e-Intel-Core-I5-3470-3-2ghz-4Gb-Ram-1TB-HDD-No-OS/282946279659?epid=2085046594&hash=item41e0e998eb:g:CswAAOSwRyRa4P58 Motherboard layout on page 24 https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/thinkcentre_pdf/m72e_tower_ug_en.pdf
  20. They do make legacy PCI to SATA 1.0 and maybe even 2.0 controller cards. The cheapest ones are like 15 bucks give or take.
  21. Wait a sec... There arent any PCIe X1's on the lenovo M81's motherboard excepts the one that is going to be blocked by the video card...
  22. I'm not talking about not having enough cable, im talking about not even being able to plug in the cable.
  23. Yes, if you really need more than 3 ports. You can get this one for 3 dollars if you use the promo code on Yesterdays email deal and send in the mail in rebate. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=16-124-045&utm_medium=Email&utm_source=GD050918&cm_mmc=EMC-GD050918-_-landing-_-Item-_-16-124-045
