  1. Have you tried different speakers or headphones? I'd be fairly confident in saying your on-board audio is good enough. If it's not, buy an external DAC and possibly an amp too, not a soundcard. Have a read of this: Hope this helps
  2. Yup Amplifier or receiver. 5.1 output, 50-100W rated output (per chanel), 75-150W rated for the sub. No problem.
  3. http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/201202/20120207201510618/AH68-02353N_REV04_HT-D330K_ZN_AR_0201.pdf See page 29. The subwoofer is passive (along with all the other speakers). Hope this helps
  4. Yes, you need an amp/receiver. You don't need to spend as much on this as you do on your speakers. They're 90W peak power, so just find an amp/receiver which can output about 50W continuous, and has all the inputs you need. I'd recommend you look for an amplifier, because it will likely be less expensive for a random 50W amp, than for a receiver, which is designed to look good in your living room. The reason for needing an amp/receiver is that those speakers are passive. They do not have built in amplification to drive the speakers, so you need to give them an amplified input. The amp/receiver takes standard inputs (like RCA, SPDIF, etc.), amplifies them, then outputs to your speakers. Hope this helps
  5. I know, I know. I was rushing it Won't be doing that again
  6. Day 35 So it all went horribly wrong again today, yay! Went up to the shed this morning to sand and put on another coat of clear to find the first coat had completely fucked up. See photos below. I think this was caused by trying to get too thick of a coat on in one go. So spent today sanding down that mess and re touching all the new bits on ONE unit. Going to do the other tomorrow and then do the next coat of clear on Tuesday. Deep joy...
  7. Day 33/34 Big day yesterday. Falcon acoustics delivery arrived, with all my crossover components and the drivers. Built the crossovers up and got the second coat of "touch up paint" on. Today so far I've got one coat of clear on, and will be applying another one later if it's dried enough. If not I'll wait until tomorrow... at this point, I don't mind an extra couple of days waiting, if it'll make the final sanding job easier. Photos always tell the story better than I can, so here's some (didn't get any today): Motivation is back. 3 or 4 more coats of clear, then I can mount everything and I think it'll be done just in time for buying the amp Can't wait!!
  8. Definitely. Not only that, but the more work you put in, the more "love" you have for them imo. I mean right now, I hate them with all my being, but when they're done, I will like them a lot more for all the blood sweat and tears that have gone into them. Glad someone who knows a thing or two about woodwork is agreeing with what I'm doing
  9. At lower frame rates, your components aren't working so hard. This means, electrically, they're producing less noise, and thus you get less interference... Although saying that, if you mean cranking up the settings causing a frame rate drop, your graphics card is working just as hard... In this case, it's likely to be the frequency of your video output (at over 30fps), is just right to interfere with your headphones. (Electrical frequency, not audio frequency). Hope this helps
  10. If I manage that, I will be VERY happy (Considering this is basically my first time doing a proper woodwork project).
  11. You won't need a sound card. Use a 3.5mm to RCA cable to connect to your PC. 3.5mm to motherboard output, then the receiver/amp will have analogue inputs in the form of RCA. One other thing to note is that the subwoofer may be active, which means it has an amplifier built in. If this is the case, you do NOT want to connect it to a powered input. Most amps/receivers have a "sub out" or something similar, which will be a line level, low pass output (not amplified, only bass), for connecting to an active sub. Google the model number of the sub to find out if it's passive or active. Passive=connect to a powered amp output. Active=connect to a non-amplified source. Hope this helps
  12. "If" is the key part of this statement. A DAC probably won't improve your sound compared to the onboard of any motherboard from the last 5 years.
  13. Yea, I'm 23, lol. Mk5 Golf TSI. I earn enough to do both, I'm just terrible for wasting money, lmao. Day 32 Thick coat of black went on yesterday. Gonna need some serious sanding and probably another coat. Crossover parts and drivers arriving today. Going to get the crossovers built up ready for when the painting's finally done. Clear coat this weekend, then a week of waiting for that to dry before final sanding again. Photos (The white bits are just water/washing up liquid and rub off. Will be giving them a good clean and dry):
  14. Nah, normal job. I'm an electronics engineer for BAE Systems. Paying off my car is draining all my money at the moment though
  15. Yup! I'd like a nice pair of open backed (don't have any at the moment), and some good IEMs to replace the M50's. Just gotta work out where the money's coming from, lol.
  16. Ah, I'll let you off then, lol. New headphones will be next on my list after these. Still using ATH-M50's.
  17. Aren't you always buying headphones?
  18. I can enjoy mine for at least a month then
  19. Day 31 So started touch ups yesterday. To be honest, they look awful, but gotta look worse before they look better right? Re-primed all the areas which needed touching up, and going to re-paint today. 1 coat primer (done), 2 coats of paint then 3 or 4 of clear coat. A day's drying between each... that's 7 days, plus another week for the top coat to dry enough for sanding. Probably going to try and get a couple of coats on a day over the weekend (one early morning and one late evening). 2 weeks to go I reckon... just in time to buy the amp! Drivers and crossovers have been delayed, and are now arriving tomorrow (Friday). Going to build these up tomorrow afternoon, ready for when the woodwork is finally done. Some photos... I know. They'll look a million times better after a sand and a coat of black:
  20. If you want to do it, do it. For enjoyment, fun etc. Do not do it expecting to EVER make a living off of it. Very few gaming channels ever make any money, let alone enough to live off. @LAwLz is right. Don't ever expect it to get big or be successful. Do it because you enjoy it, not because you think one day it might make money.
  21. Lol! New objective: Make my speakers prettier than Dackzy ever can I'd been planning this since early 2016, so I completely understand!
