  1. Hello all! So as the title states one of my current monitors is dying and so i am in need of a recommendation in terms of what i should replace it with. My current monitor is an ASUS PG329Q. I want to go down in size from this monitor to a 27in mainly due to over time i ve started to realize that 32 may be too big for my personal tastes. Also im looking to stay at 1440p since with dlss now a days i cant tell the difference between 4k native and 1440p dlss. I mainly use my monitor for gaming (as you can imagine ) and i mostly play single player games as im not a big competitive person, though i do like to play apex with my friends from time to time. My computer also has a 4080 in it so i can pretty much run anything and i prefer display port for my monitors. (not a big fan of hdmi on desktop). When it comes to a monitor the main things that are important to me are picture quality, color vibrancy, and HDR performance. Since i play alot of single player games i do use HDR alot in those games so HDR performance to me is very important. As long as the monitor is 144htz or greater i dont really care too much for refresh rate as i cant personally see the difference. Going along with HDR performance i do like monitors that can get pretty bright so keep that in mind. Due to these requirements i am heavily considering an oled but am curious what other people think. One last thing is budget which would be around $1000. Of course i dont have to spend that much but that is my maximum. I look forward to seeing what people here suggest.
  2. Ok, that makes a lot of sense. 2 questions though. 1. What about the lanes provided by the PCH? those are gonna be slower but once the data science model is in vram it wont be doing much communication over pcie. 2. What kind of platform would we have to move to for this to be able to be done. He is open to amd if there is a board that can get this done on that side. at this point i just need a direction.
  3. if we can run both at x16 that would be great! The reason i stated 8x was that a lot of the boards ive looked at arnt even wired for dual 16x so i figured finding one that was both 16x and 8x would be fine since once everything is in the cards vram it dosent do much talking over pcie so it only slows it down at the beginning.
  4. So here my issue. i have a client that has a very unique use case and am having trouble finding a motherboard for him. The machine he's building will have 2 3090 gpus in it (Not NVLinked). He is using the first one for gaming and streaming and the other for data science. He wants to go with intel 12th gen for ddr5 support but he would like to have a motherboard that lets him run the first card at 16x speeds and the second at 8x speeds. so far i have not been able to find a board that is able to do this and so i have come to crowdsource a solution. There will be a Gen 4 NVME in this build as well so i know that also plays into the pcie lane limit. Thanks.
  5. GPU temps are steady around the 50 - 60 degree mark at full tilt. So you think it could just be a bad cpu?
  6. So currently my rig is custom water cooled with 2 360 rads in the 011 XL case using the Lian Li Unifans, however the more i use them the more im starting not to like them. The unifans themselves are nice for cable management but they do have a few downsides. The software is kind of terrible, they get really loud really quick and i feel like they're not doing a good job of cooling my rig. Under full load my CPU temps can get into the high 80s. Other than the VRAM on the back of the GPU ,(active backplate from EKWB is in the mail), the GPU itself doesn't get very hot. PC Specs for Reference: CPU: 5900x GPU: RTX 3090 FTW3 At this point im more or less just trying to see what you guys would suggest for replacement fans that may improve my cooling. P.S. Im not too attached to RGB on the fans though it would be nice.
  7. Just tried paying satisfactory on Epic and the same thing was happening so i think you might have the right idea. this is the first time I've gotten it to replicate on a non-steam game. how did you end up fixing your issue when you had it?
  8. they are freshly installed. It also doesn't seem to matter if ive played the games before since it happened when i was trying apex for the first time yesterday. Got like 5 mins in and the same thing happen
  9. Sorry about that, ive edited the OP with the power supply for future reference. Its an ASUS Thor 1200 Watt
  10. So i recently upgraded my pc after managing to get my hands on some hardware, however now i have an issue that is making me unable to play games. Let me preface with my specs: AMD Ryzen 5900x ASUS X570 Crosshair Dark Hero GSkill TridenttZ Neo 32GB DDR4 3600 CL16 EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra WD Black SN750 1TB (OS Drive) Samsung 970 Evo+ 2TB (Game Drive) ASUS Thor 1200 Watt After doing a fresh install of windows, installing drivers and getting everything set up again i found that i had an issue where steam or something related to it would crash and the game would freeze up. Audio would still be playing however i would be unable to force close the application or open any new ones basically forcing me to hard reboot. At this point i have tried everything. I've reinstalled steam, reinstalled windows, verified the cache and made sure it is not an isolated issue with one specific game since it happens with multiple games. i should also mention that i have checked event viewer and other than it reporting an APPCRASH event, it doesn't report any hardware related issues. Thus i have come here to ask for any help i can in finding a solution to this problem. If any one can help me i would be forever grateful to be able to play games from my steam library again.
  11. SO a bit of backstory. My parents have had this laptop for about 7 years now and while system itself is still good the HDD is showing its age. The computer they use currently has windows 8.1 installed on it as that's what came with it from the factory. No here's my problem. i recently bought a 250GB SSD to replace their HDD and im trying to find the best way of installing windows 10 on it but have it be activated. I was thinking that i could just upgrade their 8.1 to 10, link it to a Microsoft account and then install windows 10 fresh on the SSD and log in with said Microsoft account. My worry is that the license itself wont transfer. If anybody can come up with a better solution im all ears. Im just trying to avoid having to buy a new copy of windows 10.
  12. So...in my experience this has led to linux switching to using the gpu for everything which has led to even worse battery life then what i had on the integrated gpu. It would basically make the computer unusable unless i had the power cord on me since it would only like an hour and a half on battery. with the integrated gpu i was getting better battery (Somewhere in the neighborhood of like 3 - 3.5 hours) but still nothing compared to what i get on windows.
  13. To be honest i never knew this was a thing.
  14. So, for a while ive been contemplating going back to Linux on my Razer Blade Early 2016 (GTX 970m). The only thing holding me back is that the last time i Installed Linux on my laptop it worked, however i was having terrible battery issues. The only thing that i can see being the reason why is the GPU which even if your not using it still sucks power from the system. this led to a experience so bad that i decided to go back to windows 10 once again, and like magic my battery troubles were fixed. I was wondering if anyone who knows Linux better than me would be able to help me find some sort of solution for me since i do really enjoy having a Linux laptop. Ive done some research but from what i can tell no one has tried it on the early 2016 model. Also note the last distro i was using on the computer was Arch. Thanks.
  15. Another option besides this is to take out the CMOS battery (the circle battery on the MB) and put it back in. It dose the same thing but i find it easier.
