  1. Asking for a friend, his computer has a 250w psu but the gtx 1050 recommends a 300w psu, so i'm kind of assuming the answer is no, but maybe somebody knows more. Here's the computer: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883155537 GTX 1050: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814137079&ignorebbr=1&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC-_-pla-_-Video+Card+-+Nvidia-_-N82E16814137079&gclid=CjwKCAjwzYDMBRA1EiwAwCv6JgAWBh3F4UyQPtnqQiBe-l4Q9_gra0k-KgxPsSgIGbav3ipz80GYiRoCCBsQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds just wondering if it's possible without a 300w psu. Thanks
  2. It happens every time I try to alt+tab while in a game, and random other times too (often when trying to play a video or opening up an application). I get a blue screen and the error "THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER" then my computer reboots. I've tried updating graphics drivers, but every time it says "Display drivers failed to update." Any suggestions?
  3. Right click on your desktop, then click "screen resolution". A menu will pop up, and you will be able to choose an option like "display only on monitor 1" or "duplicate desktops" or "extended desktop". You want to choose extended desktop. Click apply, and you should be good to go Oh, just realized you said windows isn't detecting the second monitor. Not sure what you should try to fix that then.
  4. This problem started after I installed my new XFX r9 390. Whenever I exit a full screen game, my computer just shuts down and then restarts itself. It doesn't matter whether I alt+tabbed, alt+f4'd, or just chose "exit game" from the in game menu, my computer restarts itself. My graphics drivers are up to date. Specs are in my signature. Thanks EDIT: the problem appeared to be fixed, but it's not. Any ideas?
  5. to clarify, there is a cpu heatsink and fan, but not any case fans. It's just an old cheap case that was lying around.
  6. There are no fans in the case. Using an i3 4160 with the stock intel cooler and a gtx 760. There would also be an EVGA 500w psu mounted at the top of the case. The case has a vent above where the cpu would go and a shroud (is that the right word?) that reaches down almost to the cpu cooler, so the heat coming off of the cpu should be mostly going straight out of the case... I'm guessing it's a bad idea, but I thought I'd check here just in case

Can I use an r9 270x with this PSU?

Seems like I should try to find something else then. What do you all think about a corsair cx500 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139027&cm_re=corsair_cx-_-17-139-027-_-Product) or an EVGA 500B (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1N83U90965) ?
  8. This is the psu that came with my brother's computer: (sorry for using my htc one m7 camera) Will I be able to use a 270x / gtx 760 with this? if not, is there a psu you would recommend for an upgrade?
  9. It's been a while since I've been closely following the prices and performance of graphics cards (built my computer two years ago, and I stopped caring about what new cards were the best and stuff). I'm trying to help my brother upgrade his computer. He's currently using an old computer with an intel core 2 quad, 4gb of ram, and a radeon HD 5450. We're getting a new hard drive and graphics card now, and plan on upgrading the cpu/mobo/ram sometime in the future. What are some of the best performing cards that I might find under $100 used? Thanks
  10. It never used to do this, but in the last couple weeks, chrome has been stuttering a lot for me. It's not a problem connecting to the internet or anything, chrome freezes up for a few seconds at a time and I can't click anything during those seconds. Any ideas?
  11. going to a lan party later tonight, and it's around 5-10 degrees Fahrenheit. The easiest thing to do would be to leave my stuff in the car while i'm doing other things, but is that a bad idea?

What can I do to keep temps down on an overheating graphics card

I put new thermal paste on.. And now, instead of 45c at idle and 95c while gaming, it's running at 30c idle and 60c in games! I guess that was the problem

What can I do to keep temps down on an overheating graphics card

There's no overclock. The airflow in my case was fine for my xfx r9 290, so I might reapply thermal paste. I did turn up the fan speed already for the case though Did you mean to say GPU here? or do you actually mean CPU?

What can I do to keep temps down on an overheating graphics card

I'm not too sure, should I try taking off the heatsink and re-applying thermal paste?

What can I do to keep temps down on an overheating graphics card

I turned up the fan speeds in my case and on the graphics card, and I also lowered the clock speed in Afterburner. But how hot is too hot? it's now running at 90c while in games
