  1. For troubleshooting steps, I was able to reinstall the driver, I've done all of the disabling/enabling and plugging/unplugging, tried a network reset from windows settings, tried to update drivers, windows troubleshooting tool, went through a couple online troubleshooting guides for ethernet problems. also tried everything here. one site said to change the speed and duplex setting away from "auto negotiation." So I found out that the ethernet works on my pc when I change the "speed & duplex" setting to 10Mbps full duplex or 10Mbps half duplex, but obviously i'm stuck below 10Mbps. With any other setting selected, it says that my cable is unplugged. It behaves the same way with different ethernet cables. I haven't found any fix for this online yet, besides maybe buying a pci-e ethernet adapter. I'm trying to wrap my head around what this setting actually does and why it would make a difference..
  2. Everything was fine a few days ago with my old internet and old modem/router. I Just switched internet providers and bought a new modem/router combo, the arris surfboard SBG8300. the wifi is working okay so far, and I tested the ethernet/ethernet cable with another laptop and it works there. However, my pc isn't getting anything from the ethernet cable. in "Network Connections" in the control panel, it says the ethernet cable is not plugged in. I've gone through most of the troubleshooting steps I've found online but it's hard to find anyone that has the same issue. I'm wondering if a compatibility issue is possible between my modem and ethernet controller? I have the Killer E2200 Gigabit Ethernet controller. I would've tried updating the drivers but it seems that intel has discontinued this model and doesn't have any drivers available for download anymore... I'm hoping somebody might have an idea of what could be wrong, because I'm having trouble figuring it out. Thanks!
  3. I'm trying to buy a new graphics card today or tomorrow, don't want to spend over $300 ish. I play games at 1080p, do a litttttle video editing and record a lot of music/audio production. I also don't want to make the mistake of getting a card that can't keep itself cool again... (xfx r9 290) It seems to me like the rx 6600 is the best option, here are the main ones I'm looking at: Powercolor Fighter rx 6600 - $255 Powercolor Hellhound rx 6600 - $299 Sapphire Pulse rx 6600 - $289 Which of these would you buy? Or would you go a different direction? I'm leaning towards the sapphire pulse because they seem to have the best reputation (from what I've gathered). Other options I had considered: - Evga B-stock 2070 (worried about not buying brand new) - $299 - rx 6700 on newegg I can't find any other plain "6700" cards without the xt, anyone know if this is real? also slightly out of budget - $369
  4. Didn't even know that switch was there. I tried it, but unfortunately with the switch flipped nothing displays on the screen, not even the motherboard logo, and the card's fans still don't move
  5. So I think my graphics card (XFX r9 390) is dying, but I'm looking for advice on this. If I had any other gpu's or other computer parts to switch out and test, I'd do that but I don't have any spare parts. I've had a lot of driver issues in the past, causing blue screens that show graphics driver error messages. this past year has been better though, until now. A few nights ago my computer shut down while in the middle of a game, and now Windows 10 won't start. My computer powers on, the motherboard logo shows up with red bars/artifacts all over the screen, and then it just goes to a black screen. One time it got to the "Startup Repair" screen, but I wasn't able to fix anything from there. Also, the fans on the card aren't starting up either anymore. everything else in the case appears to be getting power and working fine. I've had the card since 2017 or 2018, never overclocked it or anything. I've checked all connections inside and outside the case. I've gone through a number of troubleshooting steps online but nothing has helped yet. I'm about ready to order a new card but don't want to waste the money if it could be something else. I hope this isn't a dumb question!
  6. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I've been looking around for a while and haven't found the answer. I just ordered a new hard drive (seagate barracuda 2tb hdd). I already have a 240gb ssd and a 1tb WD blue hdd. I realized that I don't have any of the extra psu cables with me, so my only option would be to power all 3 drives with the same cable. Would that be fine? or should I try to get a hold of another cable for my power supply? My power supply is an EVGA supernova 850 g2. Thanks!
  7. Asking for a friend, his computer has a 250w psu but the gtx 1050 recommends a 300w psu, so i'm kind of assuming the answer is no, but maybe somebody knows more. Here's the computer: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883155537 GTX 1050: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814137079&ignorebbr=1&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC-_-pla-_-Video+Card+-+Nvidia-_-N82E16814137079&gclid=CjwKCAjwzYDMBRA1EiwAwCv6JgAWBh3F4UyQPtnqQiBe-l4Q9_gra0k-KgxPsSgIGbav3ipz80GYiRoCCBsQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds just wondering if it's possible without a 300w psu. Thanks
  8. It happens every time I try to alt+tab while in a game, and random other times too (often when trying to play a video or opening up an application). I get a blue screen and the error "THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER" then my computer reboots. I've tried updating graphics drivers, but every time it says "Display drivers failed to update." Any suggestions?
  9. Right click on your desktop, then click "screen resolution". A menu will pop up, and you will be able to choose an option like "display only on monitor 1" or "duplicate desktops" or "extended desktop". You want to choose extended desktop. Click apply, and you should be good to go Oh, just realized you said windows isn't detecting the second monitor. Not sure what you should try to fix that then.
  10. This problem started after I installed my new XFX r9 390. Whenever I exit a full screen game, my computer just shuts down and then restarts itself. It doesn't matter whether I alt+tabbed, alt+f4'd, or just chose "exit game" from the in game menu, my computer restarts itself. My graphics drivers are up to date. Specs are in my signature. Thanks EDIT: the problem appeared to be fixed, but it's not. Any ideas?
  11. to clarify, there is a cpu heatsink and fan, but not any case fans. It's just an old cheap case that was lying around.
  12. There are no fans in the case. Using an i3 4160 with the stock intel cooler and a gtx 760. There would also be an EVGA 500w psu mounted at the top of the case. The case has a vent above where the cpu would go and a shroud (is that the right word?) that reaches down almost to the cpu cooler, so the heat coming off of the cpu should be mostly going straight out of the case... I'm guessing it's a bad idea, but I thought I'd check here just in case
  13. Seems like I should try to find something else then. What do you all think about a corsair cx500 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139027&cm_re=corsair_cx-_-17-139-027-_-Product) or an EVGA 500B (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1N83U90965) ?
  14. This is the psu that came with my brother's computer: (sorry for using my htc one m7 camera) Will I be able to use a 270x / gtx 760 with this? if not, is there a psu you would recommend for an upgrade?
