  1. Oh and the Jackery Explorer 500 has 518 Wh, so it'd provide a maximum of about 95 additional hours of battery life to your laptop (though efficiency losses compared to your internal laptop battery would eat into the number quite a bit.
  2. Wh isn't Watts/Hours, It's Watts*Hours (or 3600 Joules, 1 Watt second = 1 Joule). Wh a measure of energy storage, not power draw. Power is measured as Watts (Watts = Volts*Amps, where for consumer devices the voltage is constant and the amps go up or down based of of how many Watts/power draw your laptop needs). To get how many watts your laptop consumes you need to look at TDP (Typical Power Draw) for your laptop, then multiply that by how long you're going to be drawing that power to get how much energy storage you need. We can get your average watt draw while on battery based off of how long your laptop lasts with it's battery's energy storage, but when you plug in the laptop you might end up using far more energy per hour due to losses and because your laptop might be less power conservative while plugged in. Assuming your laptop actually last 15 hours using 83 Wh of storage that means you have a TDP of around 5.5 Watts. if you want to run your 5.5 Watt laptop for a full work week (40 hours) you just multiply watts * hours to get Wh so 5.5*40=220Wh of storage. This is a bare minimum though, you would definitely need more than that especially if you want it with any sort of reliability and planning for degradation of the battery. I would probably double that number and say that you need 450 Wh, I would suggest maybe a bit more than that to be extra safe. Also make sure your source can provide at least 2.5 amps at 100V, as that's the listed input on your power supply.
  3. How does the VRAM affect performance for the GPU? I went with the 3080ti (laptop) because I wanted it's 16gb of VRAM, typically I keep a laptop for around 5 years before getting a different one so I want to make sure it's as future proof as possible. the 4070 (laptop) as I understand has about equivalent performance to the 3080ti (laptop) but half the VRAM (8gb).
  4. I would like advice on what gaming laptop to get (budget is around $2000, sales tax for me is 7% so before tax total is around $1875) TL;DR here are the links of what I'm looking at: Lenovo Legion 7 3080ti 12900HX (Note: Certified Refurbished backed by Ebay) MSI Vector GP66 3080ti 12900H (Notes: Open Box Hassle-Free Returns from Newegg, I love the look of this laptop chassis) MSI GE66 Raider 3080ti 12700H (Notes: New, Seller does NOT accept returns) Lenovo Legion 7i Gen 7 3080ti 12900HX (Notes: Used, Seller does NOT accept returns) (All these have 32gb of RAM and at least a TB of storage, which I'm happy with) I have two primary use cases for the laptop: 1: D&D/Pathfinder, it will be literally on my lap plugged into the wall while I'm on a couch shoulder to shoulder with other people, it just needs to act as a pdf viewer and web browser to look stuff up for Pathfinder. Typically the fan profile will be set to silent. 2: Gaming with a controller at my home, the host's house after Pathfinder, and also on the go as I travel a bit. Typically I will put a cooling pad on my lap and put the laptop on that pad and game with a controller (I don't really play mouse and keyboard for any game unless it's Minecraft). I usually play big open world games like Cyberpunk, currently I am playing Elden Ring. I also have many miscellaneous secondary uses that are mainly typing and web browsing based including coding Currently I have the Gigabyte Aero 15x v8, I love this laptop and want a laptop as close to it as possible. Review of my current laptop. List of desires in order: 1: Good touchpad (preferably glass, this will pretty much be my sole mouse input) 2: Good typing keyboard (I prefer clicky/crispy mx-blue type keys) 3: Good display (competently color accurate and 300+ nits of brightness and I'll be happy, I prefer brighter displays over extreme color accuracy) 4: Highest 1% low fps possible (I don't really care about average fps or resolution, if the 1% low on my current laptop was 30fps and the highest fps was 45fps I'd happily play Elden Ring at 720p low settings and keep my current laptop. Unfortunately the 1% low at 720p min settings in Elden Ring is usually around 4fps for my current laptop) 5: Low-pitch and/or quieter fans (not super important unless they are banshee wails though, my current laptop hits over 50dba but it's a low woosh sound so I don't really care.) Things I don't really care about: Battery Life Resolution Refresh Rate Energy Consumption/Heat Ports Storage Beyond 1TB Weight Minor Wear or Condition (i.e. used/refurbished/open-box) Currently I'm thinking I'm going to get the Legion 7i Gen 7, the only thing that gives me pause is if I don't like the keyboard/touchpad/screen/fan sound the seller does not offer returns, and so I'd have to resell the laptop myself if I hate it (which would probably cost me hundreds of dollars in shipping/platform fees).
  5. also you didn't even answer the question, I just provided the backstory for context not critique, otherwise I would have posted in general
  6. Hate to break it to you but he needs this by the end of February, and he wants it ASAP. not a year from now. and when you factor in the cost of a 2060 S or a 5700 XT at the prices they're going at you're looking at closer to $1225 vs $940 + cost of 8gb of ram and 1 TB storage all before tax
  7. Hello, my brother is looking to buy a pc and he has a budget of around $1000 (tax for me is 7%, so pretax would be $934) and I think this would be best for him (it's $940 with student account) https://store.hp.com/us/en/ConfigureView?langId=-1&storeId=10151&catalogId=10051&catEntryId=3074457345619562327&urlLangId=&quantity=1 my only problem is that he wanted to build it himself from nothing, but this is a much better value and he agreed to get it but I want to at least make sure that he can work on it himself, and we can do some final upgrades ourselves to make up for him not building one from scratch. So TL;DR would the motherboard on this prebuilt be able to be upgraded by ourselves? I know system builders often go proprietary, and in particular we want to add a second stick of the exact same RAM to get him to 16gb, and 1 tb of storage (depends on what sort of problems if any he has with 8gb and 256gb). In addition he wants this machine to last him 6 years with minor to moderate upgrades, and I want to make sure he can do that. Thanks for any help you can provide.

  9. @Going_AFK if you're willing to go used though I'd go with Aero 15x https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gigabyte-Aero-15X-v8-BK4-15-6-512GB-Intel-i7-8750H-4-1GHz-GTX-1070-16GB/274465714836?epid=26018352386&hash=item3fe76e7294:g:ASwAAOSwM6VfPHZ4
  10. I mean you can try, I'd stress test it with your finger on the off switch to make sure it can handle it. also you can put one of your case fans in for the CPU fan, even if the pins don't match in number that just means you lost PWM, which is definitely suggested you don't go without, but you can if you want and with better results than lots of case airflow with no fan.

  12. Also you may get more help if you move this to troubleshooting
  13. also yea Valorant is usually a CPU bottlenecked game, even on balanced systems. So if there's a drop it's probably CPU based.
  14. do you have a shit ton of chrome tabs open? video games don't need a lot of ram, but they do need some
  15. I am a college student in for Computer Science, and currently I'm looking to change my setup to better adjust to what I want. currently all my classes are online, but i want this setup to last until the end of college (3 years). My current setup is: - A desktop with a ryzen 5 1600 and 1060 6gb https://pcpartpicker.com/list/MZZsnH - Gigabye Aero 15x v8 with an i7 8750H and a 1070 Max-Q - Galaxy S9 phone In particular I need four things that my current setup isn't netting me 1. longer battery life, the laptop lasts 4 hours on average, a lot of the time less even with power saver settings on. I want at least 8 hours. 2. cooler mobile device, the laptop is really hot, again even with battery optimizations 3. the ability to write with a device pen, one of my friends swapped with me because they needed GPU power for one of their projects, and they had a 2-in-1 with a pen that was a game changer for me. 4. smaller device, desk space was smaller than I thought it would be going into my first year and I need to keep these things: 1. Windows, some of my classes require programs that only work on that operating system 2. gaming on 1080p medium/low setting 60fps or greater capability, hopefully for the next 3 years on the go and at home 3. Linux Dual Boot 4. Num-pad is helpful but not required, it allows my to more easily input some special characters and helps for data input as I'm quite proficient with the num-pad and can use it quickly without looking at it. 5. as much of my money as possible so I looked into the options and the only device I could find that sort of worked was the surface book 3 15" with i7 and 1660ti, but that fails at price, with the min spec being $2300 and being very optimistic I could sell my desktop for $500 profit and my laptop for $1000 profit which would put be $800 under minimum spec. It is also bigger than I wanted at 15" and has no num-pad So instead I think I'm going to sell my desktop, hopefully around $500 (probably less, selling used is a bitch) and buy the Galaxy Tab S6 lite for around $250 brand new from Samsung with student discount and Cash back from rakuten/wikibuy/credit card (total 11%, though I don't think rakuten and wikibuy stack which would be 7%). That means that I would have to lug around two devices, totaling around 10 pounds once you account for cases, power brick, mouse and battery pack for the tablet, but it'll all be in a backpack so I'm not too worried. Reasons I pick this is: 1. It doesn't take up much desk space, the entire device including bezels is around an 11.4" diagonal and it can be in my lap much better than a laptop (Ironic). 2. combined with the laptop it fits all my criteria, in fact I gain money if I sell my desktop 3. I can charge it with the battery bank I already carry around for my phone (~24Wh pack, max single port charging speed of 18W). 4. The only things that the tablet can't do are game, windows apps, effectively multitask (it has 4gb of RAM), and long form typing (without a Bluetooth keyboard, which I won't be getting) Now I'd like to hear criticisms and alternatives just to make sure there isn't some fatal flaw to this idea, in particular maybe a 2 in 1 I missed instead of the suggested setup that would be better, or maybe there's some feature missing from the tablet I haven't realized I needed, maybe something I could do with my phone like hook up a screen to it, or anything else, all responses are appreciated!
