  1. Oh, I hadn't thought about the warranty point. Thanks for the input!
  2. Hello, I have two questions for you guys. I'm building a new pc and want to reuse parts from my current pc. - Is it ok to reuse a power supply from 2013 in my new pc? Or is it getting too old to use for another 5ish years? It works fine. It's a Corsair RM750 gold psu from 2013. Current rig: 4770k cpu, gtx 780. New planned rig: 3900x cpu, rtx 3080. - Any matx case recommendations? Currently have a Fractal Design R4. Thinking about getting a smaller case. Needs a 5.25" bay and two 3.5" slots. Do you guys have any favorites? Thanks!
  3. Ok. What would you recommend for me? I have a budget of around $400 and want to have some sort of redundancy as well. And to be able to access my data when not at home. Thanks.
  4. Thanks guys! This was more than I thought about getting, but I think it will definitely be better for me in the long run.
  5. Hmm. After doing some digging around, I found an old case I can re-use. I also found a 4gb 2x2 ram kit. So I guess I don't need either of those included in the budget.
  6. Whoa. This looks cool. Yeah, it would be much easier to upgrade the storage. How about the software side? I know about FreeNas, but have never used it. How well does it work with services like dropbox and plex? My family would like to access things while on trips. And just curious, but what would the jump up to be able to handle 3 or 4 users at once?
  7. Hello. I'm looking to get a Nas because I am running out of storage on my computer. This nas will be for myself and for my family to use. So I would need something relatively simple for them to handle. I take loads of pictures and video and need a lot of space for that. I also would like to store music and movies on it so that my family and myself can access them while on trips away from home. I am guessing I would like around 4 terabytes of space on the nas. And because I am dealing with pictures and video (things I really don't want to lose), I would like a nas with 2 bays for redundancy. I have considered building a nas but due to time constraints and simplicity's sake, I'd like a pre-build/configured nas that I can connect to my home network. My budget is around $400 US. Any advice? I've been looking at Synology and WD because they look simple and reliable.
  8. Great video! Have to admit that half of the fun is seeing what slogan Edzel uses for each intro.
  9. I actually did try powerline. I wasn't very happy with the results. My speeds seemed slower than my wifi adapter. And the internet seemed to cut out sometimes. It's very odd.
  10. Cool! I have a Motorola modem and the Netgear WNDR3400v2. Although I have a single story house, I have similar plans for what you said. Except I plan to use Cat6 (couple bucks more, seems worth it). It's nice to know that you have had success with your setup. I am more confident now! I actually plan to maybe upgrade my router as well. I'm looking at a Netgear Nighthawk AC1900. It's AC is nice, but I'm more interested in the gigabit LAN ports to have quicker access to other computers on the network (have plans for an HTPC). And it just seems like a beefier router overall.
  11. Thanks. I have also started looking into that as well.
  12. Awesome guys. Thanks for the quick responses! Cat5 it is, then.
  13. Hmmm. Yes, True. Ok. Is there any difference in speed between the two options? Oh, and I don't know if it matters here, but I use a vpn as well.
  14. Hello. I would like to switch my computer from a wireless connection to a wired one. I have been using the Asus z87 Pro's included wifi adapter to connect to the internet. However, I would like something a little more stable and faster (And a Hackintosh doesn't play well with wifi adapters like mine). We get internet access through our cable company. So not DSL. Not Fiber. But Cable. Our current layout is having cable come out into my parents' office where it connects to a modem. Then to a wireless router, which I am using now. My room is about 30ish feet (10 meters) away and 2 walls away. My question is: would it be better to get a big roll of cat5 and run it through the attic and directly into my computer OR would it be better to run cable through the attic into my room where I would have my own modem and then plug into my computer? Thanks
