  1. I wish I posted here with more answers than questions but that’s not my style. My style is to leave work with a working rig, only to return to a no post situation. My original hypothesis was that the PSU ate it, but a same day delivery of an EVGA power supply disproved that. The mobo’s RGB lights kicked on with the 2nd PSU but not much else... the CPU cooler fan isn’t turning on. G.Skill Trident RGB RAM isn’t lighting up, and on a side note, by food has become flavorless. Did the MOBO get borked? Corporate espionage? Mercury in retrograde? Berate me.
  2. 3rd party antivirus software! Whaaaat!? Yeah, after calling in to Microsoft 3x, it turned out to be that!
  3. Part 1 was good for process of elimination, but the problem persists. Coworker is using a surface pro with a 2.4 ghz Headset w/ dongle. She uses it with a web based VOIP app. If she speaks too loudly into the mic, the level drops from 100 to 80 or 70. All boxes that allow apps to take control of the headset have been unchecked. There is no "custom" tab for AGC. Super confused. Help me LTT forum. You're my only hope.
  4. Got that little guy already -- so stumped!
  5. So I unchecked the boxes that allow apps to take control of the levels The mic still auto adjusts itself help
  6. yessir, isopropyl to remove the thermal paste and conformal coating to protect the stuff surrounding the CPU and GPU. Im going to crack it open and see whats up -- hopefully we're talking about a loose ribbon cable.
  7. I don't think its completely dead. Breakdown was a medium difficulty -- it's not all quite as easy as the single screw access panel on the bottom.
  8. So update -- I finished the procedure and... it never posted again. meh womp womp
  9. So disassembling the laptop — I got all the way down to the heat pipes and of course there’s a couple of screws securing it over the CPU and GPU that dont want to go down without a fight. Stripped those mothers pretty good... calling it for the night. Good tools are at the office. To be continued. Note: While the 7567 is easy to upgrade with its 1 screw access panel for RAM, HDD, and M.2, it’s a SOB for getting to the CPU and GPU.
  10. Tomorrow is the day I turn my hot plate into a real "laptop" -- assuming there's no aluminum in there... don't think there is. Will post pictures. Anyone else want to share their liquid metal experiences?
  11. Yeah you rip threads, alright. $100 to go away. Maybe at the end of this wild ride. Yeah not budging much on the team red side, huh?
  12. I just noticed that 1080's are what 1070's cost last month. 1070's are what 1060's cost. Just wondering if anyone may be tracking it.
  13. Yeah well its a discussion, not wikipedia. probably
  14. Yeahh that's kind of why I posted here -- a kind of peer review. That's my guess too. Hope not tho Fingers crossed. Can this bell be un-rung?
  15. I know there's a bunch of variables at play here, but it seems as tho GPU prices are starting (still a ways to go) to come back down to earth. So you can save that dough and buy tickets to LTX2018. Thoughts? Cc: @LinusTech, @AlexTheGreatish, @GabenJr
  16. DHCP was up and having many issues! Upgraded the firmware but I wouldn’t have gotten there if it wasn’t for your line of questioning. Cheers!
  17. OK here it is: There's a subset of ppl in the office who are getting invalid IP assignments. What should be a 192.168.10.* is actually assigning 169.*.*.* In one case disabling a user's firewall solved it, but there's a few others that just aren't getting valid IP configs. What, why. help
  18. Benchmarking was higher than before the snafu -- BIOS update maybe? Huzzah! Thanks for all the support!
