  1. My GF spilled water on the laptop so I turned it off, took it apart, took most of the keycaps off, dried it out, and put it in front of a radiant heater for a bit to finish drying it out. It's been about 12 hours since the spill, the computer boots on, trackpad input works, and seems fine other than the keyboard has no input whatsoever. Should I just assume the keyboard is fried and try to buy a replacement on eBay (it’s a pain to replace the keyboard on this model) or is there a way to salvage this one? I already tried resetting the ribbon cable but didn’t help. Acer Nitro 5 AN515-53-55G9 Any help would be appreciated!
  2. I have the service manual for the laptop but I can't find the schematic for the Mobo. The service manual doesn't even show where the m.2 ssd is installed just says there is a slot for it but the manual applies to a couple different variations so I'll have to see which sku my mobo is later today. I've seen another gen hp envy install it in the same spot as the HDD so I'll have to see if there's anything there. Here's the service manual if anyone wants to take a look. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04763031
  3. There are other models with configurations for a pcie slot and a GPU that's why I'm asking. I know the GPU is next to impossible to solder but soldering a pcie slot to existing contact point shouldnt be. As far as sourcing the parts and then trying to get the bois to recognize the port you're probably right it's not worth it. I've never seen it done and was wondering if it would be easy(ish) since other models have it.
  4. I'm not sure if this is the best categorie in the forum for this question but this is what I got. My HP Envy x360 15 15-w117cl has a space where it looks like an m.2 SSD would be possible to mount but there's no PCIE mini slot on the board other than the one for the wifi card. There are contacts on the board that look like solder spots but no connector and in the instruction manual on the HP website it says there's a slot for m.2 ssds but it may be referring to a different model number since the instruction is for multiple models. I couldn't find any website selling just PCIE mini slots or in the HP part seller store. If I can't add a PCIE slot I'll just replace the HDD. It is possible that there's a PCIE mini slot on the bottom of the board but I haven't flipped it over yet and when I called up HP support to see if they could help but it was a joke. Also is it possible to add a GPU I've seen other models with a gpu on the area I circled. Thanks for anyone that can help me find some answers.
  5. This is my #ROGRigReboot entry. I'm entering because my PC is due for an upgrade and I think I could get the most out of a new computer. I plan on streaming while playing the most demanding games at high settings, editing 4k footage and running graphic/processor intensive application such as 3D modeling software. I plan on getting every last bit of power out of a ROG rig if I'm selected. I know a lot of people have good reasons for needing a new rig but I hope that the fact of how important this computer and experience would be for me is a good enough reason to be one of the three selected. Plus some other reasons like I turn 20 in 4 days! Plus my computer is dying PLS HALP!!! Full components list Processor: I5-2500 Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) Motherboard: ASUS P8Z68-V LE RAM: G.SKILL 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 1886MHz Daul Monitors: 24 1080p LCD ASUS monitor Graphics Card: R9 380 ASUS Strix 4g* PSU: Rosewill - BRONZE Series - 1000-Watt 2x 500gb SSD 1x 256 SSD 1x 1TB 5600rpm hard drive Samsung Bluray player (doesn't work right now because lack of sata port) *Second card in the video is Sapphire R9 285 I bought on eBay for $80 for Crossfire but doesn't work because my board only has a 4x PCIe as the second slot even though it says CrossFireX support on the motherboard . Now my older brothers using it. He's Autistic and can't really afford a new computer either so I'll give him my current computer if I win. I'm not saying that for the sob story angle or anything that's just what I plan to do.
