  1. I traded in an expensive unit for a newer model with a local branch of a multi billion dollar company. I shipped it to them in a custom pelican case and they had agreed to return the case with the new unit inside. The unit was already sold to a different business in a different country before they received it. My case got a new label and off it went. I received the new unit in a standard case (these units are always shipped in pelicans) and when I contacted them about it they had no idea this had happened or why. They just told me they'd reimburse me and there was no way to retrieve the case. It doesn't matter how simple something can be to get right, shit happens. It's what you do when it does that is most important.
  2. I agree, everything about this block including the price tag speaks custom. Adam knew that, wanting to show this product off in the right for a cool tech video. Linus is correct in saying that the product is not going to be a big seller because of how bespoke any system using it would have to be. In the past this has never stopped them from making videos about nonviable but cool tech.
  3. Even though he made it clear in the video and in his first response to this thread why he thinks the water cooling solution is not a market worthy product (has nothing to do with performance) it seems many consider the negativity to be related to the poor testing methodology. This is bad simply because it's bad practice, but it wouldn't affect the commercial viability of this product. The coolness factor might have been negatively impacted but he does praise the product where it deserves praise, other than performance (we don't know if it's actually good though, that's the bad part). It's really unfortunate that the prototype was auctioned off. Linus probably had nothing to do with that personally, but he gets the blame and the bill. I'm curious, what would you consider "making this right" though? May I suggest giving time to a future Billet Labs product if it's video worthy? After all that's why they got the first video to begin with, it was a really special product.
  4. (shameless self quote, please don't kill) Didn't have to wait for long for the response. The watercooler seems to be what upset people the most and it's unfortunate but no where near malicious as many seem to claim. (People who know Linus Sebastian's character would have been more inclined to believe there was another side to this) As with all things there is a very small portion of the community that is "hardcore" and the rest are always less knowledgeable and involved. As Linus has stated before, the masses don't listen to everything, remember what he has said before or bother with the full context. To me this means it's important to address things that can affect LTT/LMG. As for the lab, the willingness to "hit the ground running" as it were might be a decision based on "float or sink" for all I know. I don't like to see unpolished processes even though I fully expect the lab will become a global influence on product quality and product claims. With the stated goal of the lab project it will be under constant scrutiny and will be opposed at every turn. This is why it needs to be (as) perfect (as it can be).
  5. Steve has a sarcastic sense of humor, and a sarcastic way of pointing out faults. He's sarcastic, if you don't like it then that's fine. Doesn't mean he's wrong. I wouldn't agree that this is the most snide he has been though.
  6. Legally sure. I can't speak for everyone, but I was never trying to argue a legal point. I've been following LTT for a very long time and the way I see it LMG is slipping. Now slipping is fine, a relatively mild downturn and I fully expect (as long as Linus, Luke and Yvonne are in control) them to find their balance in time. There is a psychological element to "opening Pandora's box" when cutting corners or breaking with one's principal. The long time para-social relationship makes me consider Linus to be a hardworking and heartfelt guy, and honest. That's why I know he's very emotional and might not do or say the right thing at all times. Not gonna pretend to know how he will respond to this though.
  7. As someone who has a significant ownership of the business I work at, I consider the money that I invested to be my personal money and act accordingly. I work at my business, just because the stocks are not cash in my bank account it's still mine. Same goes for all the different investments I have. I don't consider it money spent and gone.
  8. Maybe Edzel is unable to watch, fact check and rebounce 25+ videos in his work week.
  9. but they are mostly irrelevant to the video. You seem to be upset that GN, almost to a level of annoyance, puts accuracy and ethics above LMG's "entertainment" factor. an irrelevant statement of my own: I've noticed LTT videos becoming more focused on including their children viewers and I think their twitch "meme" status has given them a huge growth in child viewership and so they are trying to capitalize on this. It must be insanely good for their bottom line
  10. the argument LTT fanboys use when defending Linus' OBVIOUS conflict of interest framework investment is that as long as he's being factual it doesn't matter. Would you say GN is being factual in their assessment of LMG's deviation from accuracy, ethics and responsibility?
  11. considering the current state of intel arc support I absolutely do expect them to use it. Jellyfin fully supports it so yes, I expect them to be able to as well. Paid service being worse than free opensource projects providing the same service is unusual.
  12. Don't pay for plex if you have an a770 and don't buy an a770 if you want to use it for hardware transcoding in plex. Jellyfin does support the A770 though, so that's free advice that's free.
  13. yeah I know he's full of shit. I have ECC working perfectly on an asus prime x570-b board with 5700x.
