  1. Yep! Part Picker says I can't close the case with a Scythe Big Shuriken Rev. 2 on it, but I can - without jamming it in. Even upgraded the fan, which touches the case, but still fits. This said, I've pretty much maxed out this current build and was looking for tips on the next one.
  2. This is the rig I built back in 2016 and it's done well so far. I drag it to conventions, concerts, and other events in order to be a general purpose media dump and a render rig if we don't have a dedicated system for that purpose. This said, while it's been great for the past couple of years...it *is* a bit limited. For example, I have 10-gigabit networking gear that I can travel with (Ubiquiti USG-XG-8 and Mikrotik CCR1036-8G-2S+, for example), but this system doesn't have a 10-gigabit networking option, which isn't *really* a problem in most situations, but it's something I'd like to improve on. Plus, due to it being built in a Node 202, my storage options are more limited than I'd like. Finally, that case isn't exactly designed to be flown around the country as much as it has been. All of this said, I've been looking into my options. I *could* build a 4U or 5U system and put all of that into a Pelican MAC mobile server case. Another option is to find a laptop with multiple Thunderbolt 3 ports and travel with a few external devices as well (external GPU and external PCI-E enclosure for a 10G NIC). Do note that I plan to build this as a last option rig, where I can bring it to more major events for the lulz but also take it to smaller gigs in case it's the only rig there for ingest, production, and distribution. I'm not too worried about it being the network controller as I do a lot more with UniFi and UNMS these days than I used to. So all this said, I just need a third (or forth, or more) opinion on where to go next. A further note: budget isn't something I'm terribly concerned about, but any rig I build/buy is also going to be my daily when I'm home. What do you guys think? 3. "Quiet" is relative in this case. The bathroom vent fans I've seen and heard are nearly as loud as a 2006 Celica with a back-alley Stage 2 mod and a potato gun exhaust idling menacingly in the parking lot behind Bon-Ton.
  4. Oh, I absolutely know this willwaste a lot of time and be several magnitudes more expensive than a straight-up replacement ($30 at Home Depot). This is purely going be an experiment in "because I can."
  5. In-ceiling 12V LED lighting fixture? Feed that into a small VSD of some kind.
  6. The other day, the ventilation fan in my apartment's bathroom finally died after several years of clunky, noisy operation. This shouldn't surprise anyone, bathroom fans are some of the cheapest-built ones out there. However, it got me thinking: Noctua IndustrialPPC fans are extremely quiet and move more air (the average exhaust fan for a bathroom my size moves between 75 and 85 CFM). On top of this, I could design a better-looking grille as well instead of one of the cheap, molded plastic ones that normally come on these things. So my question for the community is this: Does combining, say, 4 Noctua IndustrialPPC fans on a custom frame, making a duct adapter, and finally making a better-looking grille (out of, say, bamboo or cedar) sound like the kind of mod someone would want to do in their own home? Because this is happening over here soon regardless (pics forthcoming).

  8. Hello Internet! My build is currently "complete" but I have some planned upgrades in mind. One of which is a smaller case since I take this thing to conventions for audio editing and video rendering purposes. Right now I have a Fractal Node 202, which is a brilliant SFF case. However, I'm looking for something small enough to fit into my Pelican 1510 and at the top of this list is the DAN A4 (v1 or v2) but they're rather difficult to find. Note that I'd want to keep (or upgrade (1080 Ti time?)) my GPU and want to maintain room for a full-size card and that I also need room for at least one 2.5" drive for on-site mass storage (I'd rather not take a separate external). Also, as I have a convention coming up in about three weeks, time is a consideration. So! With all that in mind, what are your guys' recommendations?
