  1. It doesn't appear to be the default gateway $ ip route show default via 10.88.52.251 dev eth0 src 192.168.1.20 metric 202 10.88.52.251 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.1.20 metric 202 192.168.1.0/24 dev eth0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.1.20 metric 202 So I googled how to change it $ ip route | grep default default via 10.88.52.251 dev eth0 src 192.168.1.20 metric 202 # 10.88.52.251 is not the router's IP $ sudo route add default gw 192.168.1.1 eth0 $ ip route | grep default default via 192.168.1.1 dev eth0 default via 10.88.52.251 dev eth0 src 192.168.1.20 metric 202 $ ping google.com ping: google.com: Temporary failure in name resolution Also, thanks for the IP clarification. I wasn't 100% sure and didn't want to risk it
  2. $ traceroute 8.8.8.8 traceroute to 8.8.8.8 (8.8.8.8), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets 1 raspberrypi ([local IP]) 1239.208 ms !H 1239.144 ms !H 1239.051 ms !H $ traceroute google.com google.com: Temporary failure in name resolution Cannot handle "host" cmdline arg `google.com' on position 1 (argc 1) Yes, I can. And looking back at it, the IP was just the static IP of the computer.
  3. No, but I can still ssh from other points on the network (if that matters) $ ping 8.8.8.8 From [IP] icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable Edit: took out the IP b/c I'm not sure if it was just the local IP or not
  4. Hello all,So I recently moved back home from college and any device connected from one just the one AP no longer want to do anything related the internet. Only name resolution problems. I checked the DNS settings on both router and AP and nothing seemed out of the ordinary to me (which doesn't mean much). $ ping google.com returns ping: goolge.com: Temporary failure in name resolution So, I changed /etc/resolv.conf to 8.8.8.8 at first with no results. I also tried with 1.1.1.1 and no cookie. Similarly, $ dig google.com returns ; <<>> DiG 9.10.3-P4-Raspbian <<>> google.com ;; global options: +cmd ;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached This is about where my knowledge ends on this subject, so all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance EDIT: The only two things attached to the AP are my gaming rig and a RaspberryPi (Debian based). The "AP" is just a ASUS RT-N66R running in AP mode.
  5. Can't I just avoid port forwarding and just run the second router as an access point and use the first one (pi-hole) as the top point on the network pyramid (I don't know the actual term) at that point?
  6. Yes Edit: I'm actually not 100% sure. How would I check this?
  7. Hey guys, So I am very new to the whole networking thing and was curious how I would set something up. I recently got a Raspberry Pi and am running Pi-hole. I also live in an apartment that has a lot of WiFi interference. Thus, our 4 man apartment is covered by two different routers (presumably each with their own modem, as all we get is a wall socket and the people that run the complex will not give us any indication of how the apartments are wired). I want to connect the two routers so that the people not using the router with the Pi-Hole can still use it. Is the solution as simple as buying a network switch and connecting the two? And then setting the non-Pi-hole router's DHCP settings to go through the Pi-Hole? I am also aware that I could run OpenVPN on the Pi-Hole and then they could just VPN to the Pi-Hole, but that seems like it would hit us double for data usage (we get severely throttled due to bad ISP and apartment complex going with the cheapest bidder). Thanks in advance
  8. Perhaps you should check for MoBo driver updates as well
