The other issue is that it seems Canada is not the best place for PC building at the moment as everything costs 20-30% more than the American prices I see all over the web

What monitor and GPU might you suggest instead?

Looking to spend around 500$CAD, 2560x1440 or ultrawide 2560x1080, and higher the refresh rate the better. G-sync or Free-sync would be a nice bonus.

I am currently using a laptop for gaming, it is enough to scrape by at low to medium settings.But I am planning to build a desktop(not the greatest timing with aetherium mining and dram shortage). My problem is that a 1070 should be alright for my needs but right now for about $150 more I could get a 1080. Is the 1080 a better value(could upgrade to 4K and better future proofing). Or do I wait(can still game on my laptop for now) for vega(possibly a better deal than 1070/1080 or possible price drops for 1070/1080).
