  1. I do, yes. But that's the thing. I know of one instance where my flatmate, his girlfriend and I were all using the internet in the same room (this is when I realised it might be the PC), and my other flatmate was in the kitchen, where the modem & parent adaptor is. The GF's laptop was connected to the 2-port adaptor and she was using it to download some footage from wetransfer, my flatmate was playing CoD:WWII on his PS4, connected to the same 2-port adaptor, and I was just watching like a 2h speedrun. My other flatmate was watching something in the kitchen while making food. So the electric circuit was quite overloaded. But their internet was completely fine, while mine cut off. I'm also confident that I have been playing online while the washing machine was on, but to be fair, I was the only one using the internet powerline adaptors at that time. I will do another test when I put some laundry on.
  2. Hi all, I have a weird issue. I tried searching for it, but couldn't find any topics, just slightly related and very old. I have powerline adaptors sprinkled throughout the house. I have two sets: TP-Link TL-PA4020 2-Port, which serves as the main connector (the one right next to the modem), with its partner as the connector for the PS4s and other devices at one end of the room AND TP-Link TL-PA4010, of which I only use one. It's paired with the main connector near the modem, and it's connected to my PC at the other end of the room. Both adaptors are on the bottom floor and on the same circuit. And they work great. I think my problem is with my PC. Basically, every now and again, my internet would just stop working and then, after about 4 or 5 minutes it would start again. I used to think it was because of my provider, but whenever my PC internet cut off, the wifi and the internet for the devices on the other end of the room would still work great. So I thought it was the actual adaptor that was giving me troubles (it might still be, but that's why I'm a bit perplexed). But I switched it with the other one for a while and it worked great on the other end of the room. And then I realised something: It only happens when there's an idle period on my PC. So for instance: if I'm playing online games with an active connection, it never drops. If I'm downloading or uploading, again, it never drops. But as soon as I stop using the internet actively, while editing or watching YouTube or Netflix (because they buffer the video a few minutes ahead) it drops. So, I can only assume that as soon as my PC stops receiving or sending data through the ethernet, it just cuts it off. Maybe for power reasons? I don't know. Is this something I can change? It gets really annoying when I have to wait for the internet to come back because I watched a long video on YouTube or listened to random songs on Spotify. Is there a little batch file I can write that would just ping the modem every now and again to wake the connection up? Or is there a very simple solution but I'm too blind? Thank you very much!
  3. Hello, I have a low-middle of the road budget PC that I built thanks to advice from this forum. Specs are; PCPartPicker part list: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/KhbjM8 CPU: Intel - Pentium G4560 3.5GHz Dual-Core Processor (£54.51 @ BT Shop) Motherboard: Gigabyte - GA-B250M-D2V Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard (£60.91 @ More Computers) Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory (£60.94 @ Ebuyer) Storage: Seagate - BarraCuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (£37.99 @ Aria PC) Video Card: Asus - GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB Phoenix Video Card (£143.38 @ Amazon UK) Case: BitFenix - Nova ATX Mid Tower Case (£25.80 @ Aria PC) Power Supply: SeaSonic - ECO 430W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply (£47.88 @ Ebuyer). I would be extremely grateful if you could give me some advice regarding what to do next, within a £150 budget at the end of the month. Is it worth it buying another stick of RAM, or saving some money for a better CPU? Is it worth it saving money for a high end card on this motherboard? Also, if anybody is willing, could I please get some info on how to browse for monitors? I know Amazon and co. really REALLY like to advertise useless features, so I was wondering if there are any tips and tricks to look out for in the specification. I know basic stuff like refresh rate and the difference between IPS and TN displays but not much otherwise. Thank you very much for your time!
  4. Thank you so much guys! Really appreciate you giving me some of your time! I think I'll go with dex's suggestion and I'll probably come back when I'll be able to spend more than this! Thank you once again!
  5. Hello, Now, as the title suggests, I am struggling a bit with deciding what I need or where to buy it, and I thought this would be a great place to ask for help, especially since I've seen Linus recommend the forums all the time in his videos, and from the posts I've seen, you guys are pretty great at giving advice. A bit of backstory, I come from a PC building age when the latest card was an nVidia 7300 AGP and nobody trusted the 64x architecture because it was thought unstable, so I'd say I'm about 13 years behind, which, you know, it's pretty bad in the tech field. With that being said, I can find my way around building a computer myself, I think. For both parts of the question, the budget is a mere £400, which I know it's not a lot, but I don't fancy brand new parts in this PC. The aim is up to a medium level of gaming, or higher but I don't expect very much. My last built PC was from 2004 and died in 2009, and it could run Fallout 3 at 24 fps, so, as you can image, I have a lot to catch up on. I've used old laptops and have a PS3 so I kept up to date with AAA games but I really missed out on indie gems like This War of Mine, Stardew Valley, FTL and big RTS like the Total War series or Civs. I could go on. I'm also based in UK, so I'm pretty sure I can get anything delivered here. To reiterate, £400 budget, UK, medium to higher if possible gaming and okay with used parts. I also have all the peripherals, so it's just about the tower. Now, for my efforts: 1. I've searched eBay, and I've seen some cheap stuff on there, but my problem is I've been left behind with most computer tech, so I'm a bit lost when choosing a motherboard and then realising the RAM doesn't actually work with it, and what kind of CPU it supports etc. I also don't know any other sites, but amazon and eBay for computer parts. As I've been browsing these forums I've seen PC Partpicker as a tool but I'm a bit lost when it comes to using it. So, if it's not too much trouble, a guiding hand would be greatly appreciated. 2. I've also browsed refurbished sites, like tesco outlet or those sites on eBay with a photoshopped picture and very cheaply designed font, and I've seen there some decent-for-what-it-is (or so I think) PCs, but the issue I have is I don't know how upgrade-able those are, because they don't show any pictures or give any kind of info regarding the motherboard or other compatibly. I've searched the forums for this exact question, and all I could find was a thread in which a member said something about upgrading a dell refurbished PC. So if anyone knows about this, I would be very grateful for a little advice. Thank you very much for reading all this, I appreciate it! P.S. I know this might be a stupid question, but does, say, a nVidia GTX 570ti use the same PCI slot as a 1080? *EDIT* I forgot to ask about a thread I've seen ages ago about a member compiling a long list of budget PCs ranging from 150 dollars to 2000, it was from a 2014 post and Linus had it linked on one of his old videos, but I can't find it for the life of me. If anybody remembers it, I would be grateful.
