  1. Hi everyone, I'm a full-time twitch streamer, and I'm having one hell of an internet mystery. Since about May 2018, I've been grappling with very intermittent internet issues that seem to happen every six months or so. Just long enough for me to think we had a long term fix. Also long enough for me to forget all the steps I've tried. Here's how it manifests: While streaming, my PC will lose connection to Twitch, the game I stream (Elder Scrolls Online), and report as a problem on Net Uptime Monitor. This can also happen while on my desktop (usually noticeable shortly after I boot my PC, but this does not happen every day). I was issue free from approx. July 2019 - November 2019. The issue will often appear as a total internet outage for about three seconds or so. It can happen multiple times an hour or it may not happen for hours. It doesn't appear everyday. Instead, I can go for about three or so days before it starts again. I've gone through many basic steps: I replaced the cable from my fiber jack to my Network Box. I've replaced the Network Box. I've replaced the Ethernet cable to my PC from the network box (also swapped ports on the network box). I've replaced the network card inside my PC. I've started (not finished) going through possible programs that could interfere, but streaming requires a lot running at once. I’ve had google fiber techs look at the problem in the past with no luck. They also say my fiber signal is strong. Unchecked the “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power) setting on the Ethernet port. Removed all network devices (Hue, Nest, Network Switch, etc.) aside from the New and Old PCs. I’ve experienced this issue on two computers now. One that I built in 2017 and a new one I built in October 2019.I was convinced that these internet drops would stop on the new rig. Now that I have a second PC to test against, I've been running test streams on the old PC while doing my primary stream on the new PC. The Old PC isn't detecting internet dropouts when the new one is. (I was not running these two side by side until the issues appear in November) I would love to hear any ideas anyone could think of. I’m stumped at this point. Please ask any questions! I'll provide relevant details for you below: ISP: Google Fiber. 2. I've taken both of your advice and ordered a different NIC for a lot less cost. Great idea! I'm currently using the ISP's DNS. Would the DNS result in a connection drop like that? I could easily try switching. I just didn't realize those two could be connected. I'll try reformatting if the new NiC doesn't work. I'll do a really limited install of software. Great advice all around guys!
  3. Hi everyone, Since about the first of April, I’ve been fighting with a very random and very annoying internet issue. I’m a Twitch streamer and throughout the night my internet (both upload and download) will drop out for about 5-10 seconds at a time. This might occur anywhere from 0-6 times a night. Usually it happens at least once, and I’ve noticed it when I’m not streaming as well - just watching other Twitch streams. I’ve done my best to isolate the issue: I’ve tested with other PCs streaming videos down at the same time (Only my primary streaming PC gets this internet drop and the others continue streaming) I’ve replaced the Ethernet cables multiple times I’ve started killing off programs that could be the cause - this doesn’t just happen when OBS is running. I’ve seen it happen when I was simply watching a video online I have Google Fiber and prior to me thinking it was just this PC, they swapped all the network hardware in the apartment I've tried killing off unnecessary apps like Google Drive and the Twitch desktop app When the internet drops, OBS shows a loss of frames, but It doesn’t look like the whole PC is lagging. I’ve kept task manager up, and I’m not seeing any spike in CPU, Memory or disk activity: just a sharp drop of upload and download speed on just this one computer. The internet drop affects my upload to Twitch, my streaming of twitch music, my connection with World of Warcraft (resulting in a jump from 50ms ping to 350ms). I’m at a loss. Any ideas you guys can think of to troubleshoot it or try next? I’m about ready to replace the motherboard and see if that helps at all. I’m running a custom rig with a Crosshair Hero VI mobo with a Ryzen 1700x. I have not tried reformatting the PC yet as I was holding off on that step. Thanks for any ideas / things to try next! I'm a bit exhausted at the time of writing this, so let me know if you need any more details that I failed to write!
  4. I wish I had better luck with these. My Gigabyte gaming K7 doesn't like these sticks at all. Hardware reserve is eating 8-12GB of the RAM at a time and won't let me clock them any higher than 2400. My friend and I think this is strictly a mobo bios bug, but still, would be nice to have them work. ASUS Hero VI arrives today with some other RAM to test. Fingers crossed!
  5. That's so good to know! Other than those G.Skill Ripjaws I linked, I saw the Gskill TridentZ's were on the QVL, but the TridentZ's were more $ and harder to find online. You're making me feel better about my decision I think I'm still going to wait till later in the month to make a final purchase. Sorry to hear about your fancy paperweights!
  6. I found this video really interesting as I was considering the G.SKILL Ripjaws V 32GB 3200MHz for my build. The one thing that scared me off was warnings that the latency was a bit high, but the video seems to say otherwise. Very interesting!
  7. Anyone have any recommendations for RAM and mobo that are similar to what I currently have? I'm thinking of picking some up on Amazon so I can redo the build with all new parts and rule things out. Thanks!!
  8. Unfortunately, I don't have that option. I think I'm ordering a new mobo and ram tomorrow. I'm a bit fed up with the parts I have. 3 weeks worth of trying to get this setup running has me feeling burnt out. I'll definitely do that. I love my GPU. I'm really hoping it doesn't have anything to do with it.
  9. Update on the cursed rig: Today, I swapped power supplies in it as we assumed the other may be faulty and causing the crashes. No luck. Upon getting into windows, I received multiple black screen reboots. I attempted to go into BIOS and poke around, and I received the same black screen reboot in there. I'm not sure what to do with it next. I'm wondering if the motherboard is dying? Maybe the ram? Thanks again everyone!
  10. I'll have to look into that this weekend. I hope it's not the board. I fear it is, but the board is almost backordered on Amazon. I might be in the market for a whole different mobo at that rate. I'll report back with my findings.
  11. Update on the computer: Yesterday, I went into the bios for a second to check on the XMP profile. My friend reminded me that we didn't choose it because it would not allow us to save and exit without crashing. I exited bios without saving this time as we were going to get the latest bios. Upon getting to the desktop, my PC shut down and rebooted (not a windows crash, just a black screen reboot). We quickly updated the bios to Gigabyte's latest and went back into bios. We selected the XMP and now the ram is at the correct setting. Throughout the night, the PC began powering off again and again. Once while running the DDU, twice while sitting on the desktop, and any time I tried to exit GTA to test FPS. It totally froze during the CPU portion of 3d Mark and one other point throughout the night. I've ordered a replacement power supply from Amazon that should arrive tomorrow. I hope it's an easy fix. The computer got stuck in a power on and off cycle as well where the case lights would turn on, then off, then on... Kind of depressing that this started out of the blue. I'm not sure why I got the first crash of the night as I hadn't adjusted anything in BIOS. PS: By disabling vsync and freesync, I was able to get 40-50 FPS in GTA 5 with no tearing.
  12. Oh! My computer noob side is showing. Interesting. I must be thinking of us manually inputting the voltage. Good to know! I'll take a look through it tonight and check for what you just mentioned.
  13. Thanks for the guide! I have the Flare X 3200 kit. I'll work to reset it as the numbers we input are having no effect. It is a clean version of windows. Hm, I'll have to try the HWInfo64 sensor to test the temp. Thank you! I'll report back when I get the chance to make those changes.
  14. Thanks! I was thinking the same thing! I'm going to start with a DDU tonight. If that doesn't fix it, I'll try to reinstall any mobo updates from Gigabyte. Maybe it is board related because it won't do anything with the ram clock speeds. Even though we manually input the numbers, it's keeping the ram speed at the lowest settings.
  15. I'm definitely down to try it in the future! That's for the advice. I guess I want to get the baseline working first though. I was watching season 3 of scrapyard wars, saw their scores from the rigs they made and my jaw dropped that this new PC was soooo far behind in the tests. Need to get it working at an acceptable level before I dive into OC
