  1. Now between the XR and the 11, do you see any reason to go for one or the other? IE is the 11 worth the extra 100 bucks over the XR. Mainly asking since I've been out of the loop on a lot of tech news for a while. Thankfully I don't depend too heavily (if at all) on a lot of android apps, and I happen to use spotify over other streaming apps so that's at least one less headache to potentially worry about. I guess my biggest concern is getting used to ios' quirks that aren't as or present on my note 8 (swiping up as opposed to the homebutton for example) and just getting used to ios as a whole. on another note I forgot about in the main post that you may or may not have had experience with, are airpods worth picking up along with an iphone? I've used other bluetooth buds like jaybirds before, but those have usually crapped out in less than a year's time, my jaybirds not even lasting a half hour anymore. And with how well they seem to integrate with the apple ecosystem, they seem to be worth considering more than before.
  2. Obligatory preface, I don't want this thread to turn into "X brand sucks get Y brand" yadayadayada. Just finished the last payment for my Note 8 and it's getting to that time where an upgrade seems to be in order; the battery is doing worse than it normally is and it's scratched to hell. Took a look at the offerings my carrier has, and found myself split between a couple. The Iphone XR for $600 (US $ just to note) The pixel 4 xl (about $700 after a trade in offer currently running) or the Iphone 11 (also $700) Been on android for all of the smartphones I've owned so far, so I thought I might at least consider apple. But I figured asking your guys' thoughts before pulling the trigger on anything. Thoughts on which would be better to go for? Anyone with experience jumping from Android to IOS? Especially the last point there, was told by a rep at my carrier that the jump would be difficult but he had to help someone before he could elaborate. Thanks!
  3. I'm mainly just looking for something for school and light photo editing right now. Got a desktop for gaming right now, so I'm more keen on battery life and portability more than anything. Was looking at possibly a razer blade stealth, hp spectre or just a regular macbook for the time being.
  4. I've been out of the tech loop for a while now. What's wrong with mac keyboards nowadays?
  5. Been using a 2012 macbook pro for the past year or so for school and work, and it's stability has been questionable at best the past few days. So figured might be worth looking into a new laptop when some deals start cropping up. Any of you have suggestions? Was looking at something in the $1500 usd range. Thanks a million
  6. The wireless smokin buds from skull candy aren't the best, but for 60 bucks, they're a comfy fit, sound okay for the price, and have a pretty solid battery life. Used to be my daily drivers, not too bad. https://www.amazon.com/Skullcandy-Smokin-Bluetooth-Wireless-Earbuds/dp/B013UFYCDC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1505784769&sr=8-1&keywords=skullcandy+smokin+wireless
  7. So there's some new service called Paperspace, thats advertising that you can play games through cloudbased virtual desktops for a service fee. https://www.paperspace.com/gaming what do you guys think?
  8. Going to be building a new system for my step dad to use in his office. Was thinking about the N400 from CM for it's minimalism and airflow, but I'm not too sure about it for the internal setup (drive cages facing inwards, SSD mounting, etc). Looking for a midtower able to hold an atx mb. Not looking for anything with panel windows or rgb or any of that swag. Figured some of you guys might have some suggestions worth looking into. Budget on case is ideally under 80 bucks US.
  9. I've had a similar issue. Sometimes I can do games for hours on end with no issues, but with some titles it'll crash within minutes, I think (at least with my system) it might be a mix of thermal throttling and the cpu just fainting, since I did a clean install every driver I could think of but it still occurs.
  10. Nice to see Red is bringing back the physx card
  11. If you have the cooler and a mobo to oc, I'd say 7700k mainly because of how high you can get the clock speed, especially since most games won't go above using 4 cores typically speaking, so you'll get more performance out of the sheer clock speed. But you can still get some good performance out of the 1700, plus it'll be better over all for more stuff than just gaming.
  12. Update: turns out the gpu is an r9 270 with 2 gb of memory and one janky-ass cooler. Radeon's auto driver software couldn't identify exactly what it was so I had to crack open the case to see what it was. Drivers might've been causing crashes but from what I hear the cpu might also be to blame (stock heatsink and how hard the FX thermal throttles).
  13. My step dad asked me to help him build a computer for his business. Bit under one grand USD budget wise. Graphics horsepower isnt as big a deal since he dosent do gaming, but he does want a multi-monitor setup since he's a big multi-tasker. Was thinking about going with either a Ryzen 5 1600 or 7 1700 since the 6 and 8 core intel equivalents are much pricier, some ECC memory if there's compatibility, and if theres room budget-wise, an SSD, though it isnt as big a deal. Figured Id check in here to see what parts you guys would recommend or if you know of any builds worth looking into.
  14. Last pair of in-ear headphones got destroyed when I was working, figured I'd see what you guys use and like before dropping another 30 bucks on shit headphones. Any recommended brands or types of in-ear headphones?
  15. id put money down that it'd be an upgrade, atleast from my experience with it thus far. some stuff like total war titles run fine around 30 fps, but if i wanted to load up crisis 3 or even battlefield 4, and it'll drop to 15 fps or less.
  16. well in the event the video card is just shambling and about to die, I planned on swapping it out for a 1050 ti soon anyway. but I held off on it in the event it was something else in the system
  17. The mb dosen't support overclocking, so the cpu is running at stock speeds. going to try running DDU and reinstall the drivers. What's weird though is this only happens in certain games, and not even demanding games; like I can run Warhammer total war or xcom 2 on medium to high settings all day, but as soon as I try to launch something like starcraft 2 or dota it'll just crash.
  18. Been trying to do some gaming on a pre-built I use for business at home for gaming, however I've been getting some weird errors where my display would display an error saying my screen isnt connected, along with the audio turning to garbage or getting stuck on a loop, or even just the bsod. It's running an AMD FX 8300, 16 gigs of memory, an unspecified Radeon R7 200 series gpu with an unspecified amount of vram (dxdiag says 6 gb, but when in the options menus for games it only displays about 3 or 4 gb). I'm not exactly certain as to what it could be, I narrowed it down to either the PSU, or the gpu, but I don't know for sure. If anyone has any knowledge that could help out in some way, I'd be most appreciative.
  19. are you so dense that you can't read the part I've repeated several times now about how much PO lends their gear out? (or my other examples from the holy shit videos, like the 40k puget systems build? how many people went out to buy one after that?) fucking H they even lend gear to channels several time smaller than LTT for no cost other than a mention (one from Tommy Reynolds, a youtuber with less than 10k subscribers ) My whole point before was that PO is pretty fucking chill about lending gear. Learn how to read before getting a hate boner on about the idea of canadian techies looking at more expensive shit.
  20. And showing off super high end photo gear with disgustingly high resolution and quality that most people have yet to see wouldn't bring in viewers? You could try to be constant at least.
  21. if we're going by that logic then, then most of the videos in the holy $hit playlist are pointless because they don't bring in customers, like for the 40k computer from puget systems, their frankenstein 4 monitor 8k display, or the $1000 hdmi cable. I'm not saying they should look into to try to review or convince people to buy PO backs or w/e you're pulling out of your ass. I'm saying it would be interesting to see their thoughts on it and see what they think of the tech PO has put out.
  22. I just said at the end of the first post that PO is good about lending gear, in fact, in another reply I stated that PO has a dealer relatively close to LMG that does free demos.
  23. Yeah PO is huge on lending gear, especially with content creators. One of the main reasons I even started this thread was because PO does have a guy in Seattle that does demos and lending, so it's a feasible possibility. I think he was with a company called Bear Images if I remember right
  24. I understand they do camera reviews, I'm well aware of that. I'm just spitballing about how interesting it would be to see them with a Phase One or something along those lines, especially considering how the resolution and detail from them are straight overkill
  25. After watching the video on the red camera unboxing (and linus' breakdown that ensued), I just thought it might be neat to have high end photography equipment reviewed on the channel, especially since some of the newer stuff from companies like Phase One are pretty damn impressive. Not to mention Phase One is pretty neat about doing demos and borrowing gear.
