  1. @Falcon1986 @Windows7ge I found that the Ubiquiti EdgeRouter 12 is the best option for me. Thanks for the input everyone!
  2. Ok, I will look into all the Ubiquiti options before I make my decision then. Thanks!
  3. I am thinking about building a new NAS. This is my first real NAS, so correct me if i'm wrong about certain things. I had made previous posts on the topic, but they are now outdated since I wasn't ready to purchase at the time. I am looking for a storage server mainly for backups and a plex server. I was thinking I could combine the two into something like a Dell PowerEdge r720XD but if someone thinks they should be separate, let me know. I have a mis-mosh of random drives so I think I need to use UNRaid as the main OS and then I could use CentOS for the Storage Server and Ubuntu for the Plex Server. For specs I was thinking 12 cores and 64GB+ of RAM. I think I need to allocate most of the resources to the Plex Server since there could be multiple people streaming off it at once, where as the Storage Server probably wont have more than 1 user accessing it at a time. I would like decent transfer speeds however. I was thinking I would need to add in an SSD for a L2 cache, but I saw people recommending to not use a L2 cache. These are the drives I have: 2x 1TB 7200rpm HDD 1x 320GB 5400rpm HDD 1x 1TB 5400rpm HDD 1x 750GB 7200rpm HDD 1x 500GB 7200rpm HDD These are all Desktop-Based HDD's and as they die I will replace them with NAS equivalent HDD's. My budget is $350, but there is a little wiggle room if necessary. The UNRaid License is not included in that cost, but if someone had a Free-Alternative that would be appreciated. The only thing that I can think of for other storage options are HP Proliants, but I don't know much about them. Is the Dell PowerEdge r720XD too old? All suggestions are appreciated too.
  4. I just saw on eBay that there are lots of good deals for ubiquiti EdgeRouters, which I know will probably also have lots of features I won’t use but I would expect the power usage to be lower and there is also a mobile app. Would you recommend?
  5. I have a Dell PowerEdge r210 II with an Intel Xeon E3-1240 v2, 8GB ECC RAM, and a 120GB SSD in it. I have PfSense installed as the OS. I find that for me (a home power user) it has way to many features and it’s overwhelming, in addition I never see the cpu usage go over 5% so I feel like I’m wasting power and not taking advantage of the server. The only actual thing I need to change on my router is the DNS servers because I prefer cloud flare and the QoS because we had looked into switching to VoIP in the future for our phones. I had the idea of switching to a Ubiquiti USG or a USG-Pro but I saw that the maximum throughput is really low when you enable things like IDS or IPS (see photo), and we have an internet connection that is 200Mb/s so the USG would throttle the connection. We had considered switching to Verizon and they have a 1Gb/s connection speed, so future proofing would also be appreciated. Do I need to enable these features or would either of these routers work, or would I need something like a Dream Machine?
  6. I am still narrowing down specific cases, but these are the specific brands I am looking at now: -Cooler Master -Corsair -Fractal Design -Lian Li -Phanteks -Thermaltake Is there any brand I should stay away from (bad support or something)? @TheDailyProcrastinator @BillNyeThecommieSpy
  7. That's looking like my top pick at the moment. I really like those blue power cables!
  8. I would like to be under $130 if possible. I liked my Corsair SPEC-01 case, I know my motherboard doesn't have a type-c header on it, but I can always get a PCIe Card to add one. I am definitely looking for something with good airflow. Those cases look like good options. I like smaller cases because they take up less space, and generally I don't think I will be doing that many upgrades. My only current issue with my corsair case is that the power supply cables are very thick (which is a good thing) but the back side panel is very hard to get on because of that. Will definitely keep my Corsair Power Supply.
  9. Back in December of last year I built a new gaming PC and I re-used the old power supply and case. I built the last PC in 2015. I was wondering if I needed to get a new power supply, or if the old one would last until 2024 or 2025. It is a Corsair RMx 750 Watt 80+ Gold unit. In addition to that I am looking into getting a new PC Case because my current one only has one front USB 3.0 port, and I would also like newer features like a tempered glass side panel and a power supply shroud. I have a Corsair SPEC-01 Case right now. I was thinking something like an NZXT H510 or the Corsair 220T RGB. I have a black and red color scheme and would like to stay with that, but I would also consider a case with RGB as long as its black. Any suggestions are appreciated! My specs are Ryzen 5 3600 Arctic Freezer 34 eSports MSI b450 Tomahawk Max 16GB DDR4 3600MHz G.Skill ASRock AMD RX 5700XT Challanger D Intel 660P & Samsung 860 Evo I just bought 2 120mm Rosewill PWM Red LED fans, so if I could re-use those that would be nice.
  10. So would it be ok to use the drives I have now and as they slowly die move over to NAS drives?
  11. I am planning on building a NAS in the future, I was planning on using UNRAID since I have multiple random Seagate, WD, and HGST drives lying around. They are all meant for "desktop" use. Does it really matter though? Can I not use these drives in my NAS? I will have a backup of everything anyway so if one dies I can always replace it. I noticed pricing is vastly different, $54.99 for a 2TB Seagate "Desktop" Drive and $79.99 for an IronWolf "NAS" 2TB Drive; the one without Data recovery. What justifies spending $25 more? Edit; I also just realized that the "NAS" HDDs are 5900rpm and the "Desktop" ones are 7200rpm?! Also the cache on the "NAS" one is 64MB whereas the one on the "Desktop" one is 256MB?!
  12. I have a Logitech g213 keyboard, and I like the logitech software. I just downloaded the Razer software, its a little strange to say the least, but I can live with it.
  13. Yea I don't mind installing the software, that's ok. I looked at all the Logitech mice, but they looked a little strange to me or they where too expensive.
  14. The five mice I am deciding between are the: >Razer Mamba Wireless >HyperX Pulsefire Dart - Wireless >ASUS ROG Gladius II Wireless >SteelSeries Rival 650 Quantum Wireless >Razer Viper Ultimate Wireless I don't really like heavy mice, but i'm not sure what would be defined as "heavy". I have big hands, most people said big hands will work on these mice.
  15. I am looking for a new wireless gaming mouse. I currently have a MadCatz RAT T.E., but the wire on it gets caught on the table all the time!! I hate wired mice so much! I am looking for something that is comfortable and maybe rgb? Extra programmable buttons don't matter too much to me, but I don't also want no extra buttons, I am definitely not looking for a plain mouse. My budget is $150 max but I would like to stay under that if I can. Thanks!
