  1. Appreciate the overclock advice, I never dared to try because I'm scared of blowing up my system XD. Any recommendations on a water cooler? AIO?
  2. I record in .mp4 using NVIDIA NVENC H.264. Video bitrate is generally 101mb/s. Bit depth is 8 bits. Not sure about Chroma Subsampling. Not sure what you mean by "Is the footage being hardware decoder being used?" but I am using GPU acceleration for video processing. The GPU decode graph stays at a steady 5% during playback. My CPU is spiking whenever I hit transitions and during busy scenes in the video. Average 80% CPU usage but hits up to 95% during busy scenes. (Picture attached) Tried using proxies to great effect but still getting considerable lag during transition scenes. Appreciate the CPU recommendation. Any other advice after all this info?
  3. Looking to get better playback and scrubbing on game footage inside Vegas Pro. I don't use an abundance of visual effects on my clips but playback is still generally terrible and slow. Currently using a i7-6700k at stock speeds with an Asus Prime Z270-A Mobo. CPU is currently air-cooled by a Phanteks cooler. Using 1080ti GPU and 32 GB of RAM. 650W PSU. In a perfect world I'm looking for smooth playback on the timeline even as visual effects and transitions get added to the footage. Any advice for a modern CPU and Mobo as well as cooling options would be much appreciated. Open to both Intel or AMD. Budget (including currency): 1200ish CAD give or take 100 bucks. Something like the Ryzen 5900x looks like a healthy option but is it excessive? I'm the kind of guy who loves future proofing so I'm not opposed to even the 5950x. Country: Canada Thanks in advance for anything you can give me!
  4. Hey guys, looking for a CPU and motherboard upgrade as my comp is around 4 years old now. I am currently running these specs: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/ZJNPq3 I use this comp for light video editing in Vegas and mostly playing games. I need a CPU and motherboard that would future proof me for around 3 years or so. Budget is about 500-600 dollars, if Ryzen is better value switch me over. If not keep me Intel. Thanks guys, appreciate your input
  5. Hey friends, so here is the long story short. My computer was running perfectly fine until recently where it would overheat tremendously and crash my computer. At least that is what I was assuming because on Core Temp I was averaging 85 to 90 degrees Celsius during gaming. I built the comp about 4 years ago so I opened her up, cleaned out the fans and cooler, applied some new thermal goop and started it again. However after I booted her up again she blue screened immediately over and over again. Sigh... So after lots of troubleshooting and deleting Avira it finally started working "normally". However now I am wondering if she is due for an upgrade. 6. Anyone know where or what is piece is? Upgrading laptop HDD to SSD and this fell out.
  7. Alright, thanks for the advice! What are your thoughts for buying a 3 year old 1080 ti?
  8. Hey guys, I built my first PC using the help of the awesome people on the LTT forums probably about 3 years ago? Now I'm thinking of upgrading my GPU as my 1060 6GB is having trouble running games like The Outer Worlds. I'm running a i7-6700k with 16 GB of 3200mhz RAM. I haven't ever overclocked the CPU as I was never confident enough to try it. Motherboard is a Asus Prime Z270-A with a 650 watt PSU. I've been out of the game for ages now so I really don't know how much benefit I would get from buying a used 1080 vs a new or used 2070? What do you guys think?
  9. Hey guys, I'm looking for a cheap laptop for my dad who is planning on using it to watch videos and run programs like Word and Powerpoint. Definitely cheaper is better but an SSD for boot drive would be preferred (although I know it will up the price). Living in Canada on a budget of about 300-400 dollars. Thanks again guys
  10. Hello LTT community, About two years ago you helped me out by giving me advice on building a new gaming PC for myself. It honestly went great and I was really grateful for all your advice! However I've been out of the market for those two years and now my little bro's laptop is starting to become outdated. I want to build him something to surprise him this Christmas! My budget is about 600-700 CAD for a gaming oriented build. He typically plays games like League but he would like to play more hardware intensive games like Doom and Subnautica. He occasionally has to edit video for school projects so a CPU which can handle VEGAS Pro 14 without crashing every few minutes would be nice. He currently uses one 1080p monitor. I don't really care about Intel, AMD or Nvidia. Just as long as it remains in budget! Thanks in advance guys, looking forward for your suggestions! EDIT: If 600-700 is too low it is possible to max it to 1000.
  11. Thanks! I know I could do some basic research but I might as well ask the man majoring in computer networking and what he thinks. Any recommendations on which switch and brand? I've heard good things about D-Link?
