  1. I have plenty of savings and received this money to do something fun with.
  2. HEY LTT Forum! So I just got $1400 to spend on whatever I want! I love tech, so what should I get! Any ideas?? ~Trop~
  3. Let's be honest, most of the tablets and detachable screen PCs out there these days are less the impressive. Light weight and portable has taken precedent over power and usability...but not anymore! HP's ZBook x2 isn't light weight (weighing in at a whopping 4.78 lbs), but boy is it powerful. Sporting a quad core i7 Kaby Lake R-Line processor, an Nvidia Quadro M620 gpu, 32 Gbs of RAM, and a 2Tb SSD, this bad boy can handle just about anything you throw at it! The I/O is fully stocked with smart card and SD card readers, HDMI, USB 3.0 port, and two(2) USB Type-C ports w/ thunderbolt support; allowing it to power 2 4K monitors. Other features include and 720p webcam and a fully backlit keyboard. https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2017/10/18/16490876/hp-zbook-x2-workstation-detachable-pc-announced-omg HP states that the base model will start at $1,749 (USD), but for the model above, get ready to pay much, much more when it's released in December.
  4. So, help my American spelling...is it Piccadilly or Picadilly? I want to get it right.
  5. Ever feel like somebody's watching you? Well tourist, residents, and motors around London's famous Piccadilly Circus sure seem to think so. The new and improved billboard at the iconic London square measures 790 sq meters, 11 million pixels spaced 8mm apart. This massive screen can display 281 trillion different colors on an expanse of about 4 tennis courts and is the largest screen of its type in Europe. However, its gargantuan size is only half the story! Original article from The Verge - https://www.theverge.com/2017/10/16/16468452/screen-london-picadilly-circus-cars-targeted-ads-landsec The screens owners, Landsec, says that hidden cameras will analyze the make, model, and color of passing cars, as well as the age, gender, and feelings? of pedestrians passing by. The information captured will be used to tailor advertisements towards those in close proximity to the billboard. The screen will also display ads depending on the weather and news and sports event. A spokesmen from Landsec stated in an email that "the screen can react to these external factors, but would do so without collecting or storing any personal details." The screen will display 6 different section displaying ads, news, sports, weather, etc and a full screen ad using the entire screen for 30 seconds every 10 minutes - the first brands to debut will include Samsung, Coca-Cola, Hyundai, and L'Oreal. Landsec has not announced when the the new board will be switched on, as they do not want the screen to cause overcrowding and traffic issue on an already congested sidewalk and city street.
  6. I have failed at nothing and you HAVE misunderstood my point. Your "edit" assumes that my point was to store every word of the book in the most efficient way possible. The hypothetical that I proposed was indeed, to show the massive size of the drive; and your suggestion of saving each word as a .txt (assuming that my original idea gave 2 craps about "efficiency") only strengthens my original statement.
  7. I feel that you've missed the point...
  8. 14TB! Let's just put that in perspective. The novel "War and Peace" by Tolstoy is 1,225 pages. Written on those pages are 587,287 words. If you took every individual word, typed it in Microsoft word (averages about 10Kb in size), and saved it to this hard drive; you would be able to fit approx. 2,383 copies of War and Peace on this HDD. Consider your mind officially BLOWN!
  9. Looking to upgrade that rig of yours to the newest generation of Intel cpus? Well, you may be to wait a bit. Due to the high demand (specifically for the "K" series chips) of the processors, e-retailers and brick and mortar stores have found there shelves "decaffed" of Intel's newest flagship. http://www.tomshardware.com/news/intel-coffee-lake-shortage-cpu,35632.html When reached out to for comment on the shortages, Intel responded: "The 8th Gen Intel Core desktop processors and systems are on sale globally. We’re actively working with our retailers to fulfill strong interest from customers on the i7-8700k SKU." As for the shortage of non-K SKUs, Intel is looking into the matter and should have a response soon, according to the above article from "Tom's Hardware". Enjoy the read!

  11. Benchmarks? I could truely get better performance out of an actual park bench... Thanks for your consideration, Dan #ROGRigReboot
  12. There are a good number of 970s on eBay at decent prices...although you never really know what you are actually getting... :-/
  13. Hey Forum Dwellers, Building a gaming rig for a friend and I am trying to decide on a graphics card. My cpu is the Ryzen 3 1300X on an MSI B350 Krait Gaming mobo. So right now, I can get a GTX 1050ti 4Gb for $159.99 ($10 rebate makes it $149.99) or a GTX 1060 3Gb for $216.08. I'm a noob when it comes to figuring out price to performance ratios and the like. What does everybody think? I look forward to hearing for everyone! Thanks, Trop
  14. Hey Everyone, Just picked up i5 3740 on eBay and was looking for some motherboard suggestions. Looking at what's available in the 1155 family, it really seems to be more "function over form. They are, to put it bluntly, hideously ugly. I was wondering if anybody had a suggestions on a board that will work well, without a lot of crap I won't need or use, but still looks bangin' in my case. Thanks for the help y'all! ~Troptop~
  15. Hello World's Best Tech Forum (it's no brown nosing if it's the truth!), So I'm trying to build a budget gaming rig for my friend that got me into streaming on Twitch and I was looking for some recos on a cpu and mobo. He generally likes to play/stream retro games, but I figure that it's just because you can't AAA titles on a potato. So I was looking around eBay and I was looking at the i7 3820. It's seems to have some decent performance clocking at 3.6 GHz and can turbo at 3.8GHz. 4 cores, 8 threads, and a decent price to boot, ranging anywhere from 60 to 120 USD. Although, as I was researching the Socket 2011 mobo tend to be on the pricey side. Any help/recommendations for a good budget cpu and mobo would be appreciated! Thanks!
  16. Hey LTT Forum, I wasn't sure where to put this, so I figured the general discussion board would be the best. So, basically, I studied audio engineering while in college and in those days its was all about ProTools on Macs. It was the industry standard and everybody used it. Let's flash forward to today, where I still think Mac/ProTools is the standard, but PCs and ProTool for Windows has certainly closed the gap. Being out of the audio mixing/mastering game for about 12 years now, what would be a nice home studio board to get that won't break the bank, but still has great usability with ProTools Windows. I don't need some giant 64 channel mixer. I'm talking 16 channels and something that can fit on or under my desk. I look forward to hearing everyone's input! Thanks ~Tropton13~
