I will have to try that. I've switched to 10 as I thought that etc was finally here for tomb raider.

    Windows 9

I made it a while back ago, but I do have "Windows 9" sysprepped and ready to go. It is built with Win 10 Pro, so if you have a license for that, it should work just fine. This is an older build of Win10 and updates to Win10 may break the Win7 feel to it, therefore, by default, windows updates have been disabled upon install, and to activate, you will need to at least temporarily enable windows update and run the activation troubleshooting to get it to activate. If you want to keep the system looking like 7, you may want to disable updates again. Further, if you look at System Properties, you will notice it will identify this as Windows 9 as well, other tools and utilities will do the same. As nice as this is (or isn't), updates will break this and will report the system as Win10 once again. Also, understand that Microsoft seems to have other ways to re enable windows updates regardless, so if you want to prevent updates, periodically check that they are still disabled. The version of Aero glass for Win8+ that is installed is an older version that will break with one of the windows updates. If you want to keep the affect, you will need to install a newer version from www.glass8.eu but understand this will display a watermark on the desktop and each time you boot to the desktop, will be prompted if you want to copy the device id. This is nagware, so you can completely ignore it, otherwise, you can donate to remove the watermark and nag. With that said, This should really be used in a test bed and not a prod environment. This is an otherwise "clean" copy of Windows 10, it isn't pirated, "pre activated", "hacktivated", cracked, etc. Only modified to have a similar appearance of Windows 7. I will trust mods to deem if linking to the file is alright or not. Still waiting for the file to continue to upload to the cloud, look for a future message if interested. https://1drv.ms/u/s!AhTa5pJK-8NhixW9lrw7GOjA5oNJ

Since I was obviously having the same issue, I replied and was able to get Device Manager all cleaned up. I wanted to send you this message in case you haven't seen my reply because I detailed the steps I took to rectify the unknown PCI device issue.

I sincerely hope that I was either able to help or that you found a solution elsewhere.

Yea, I get that, I'm just putting off switching to 10 as late as possible. I personally despise the direction Windows is going. If they would stop all the tracking they do on you, that'd be one thing. Besides, there's been plenty of problems when they release updates from bricking PC's to deleting your data, etc. You can't control Windows 10, it controls you. I've taken Windows 9 that is supposed to block a lot of the tracking, and also installed third party software that is supposed to block that garbage but Microsoft seems to weasel their way back into the system. It's been ages since I have setup a dual boot system, is that still possible with Windows 10? If so, I might give that a shot, to utilize Win10 for games with Ray Tracing and RTX support, and Win7 as a daily driver.

I've reverted back to Windows 7 so I can use the card, don't know why Windows 10 is not compatible. Back to the drawing board with those 2 unknown devices showing up with the RTX card.

Ok, Win10 installed and up to date and still says its incompatible with the OS. Checked nvidia forum and someone else is experiencing the same: forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1004787/geforce-drivers/381-65-install-error-on-win-10-pro Of course that is not resolved for the OP. I guess it's time to go to my backup and restore the partially setup video card.

Ok win9 wouldnt even install, not sure if build was too old or .net framework needed to be updated. Anyway, going to win10 and updating to see if that allows it to finally work.

First, sorry for unrelated note below: I know, Win9 does not exist, its 10 to look like 7. I copied the tutorial on how to do it, but used sysprep to make an install disc. It looks great in my opinion, even went as far as changing DLLs in Sytem32 so when checking Windows properties, it says Windows 9. Most of the spying has been disabled but I'm sure MS can and will reenable. There are some caveats to the installer, this was made prior to the creator updates and installing updates will revert it back to 10, for this, Windows update service is disabled by default, however, MS still finds a way to reactivate the update service. Also, to activate, you will need a PRO license and need to temporarily enable Windows Update as activation appears to be tied to it. I have no intention in redoing the process for Home version, it's a pain.

I have tried with win7, win8, win8.1 all a no go. Trying win9 and if that fails win10.

Performed clean install and installed MB drivers. Grabbed the nvidia drivers and only installed driver, skipping gforce experience. After reboot to complete, still fails.

I went to safe mode and disabled network. Ran DDU with restart option and let it complete. Rebooted PC and ran the installer for drivers, network still disabled. After rebooting from installing drivers, device manager still displays the same. Will attempt a clean install now, not a big deal as I schedule Acronis TrueImage to perform a backup daily.

Thanks all! I am getting ready to try that now. Still odd that GeForce Experience would not install the associated drivers to begin with, I guess all is good if this works.
  15. Prior to installing the RTX2080TI, I confirmed all hardware drivers were up to date on my PC and after installing the card, two unknown devices show up in device manager. They are listed as "PCI Device" and "Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller. Checked the Hardware ID's: PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1AD7&SUBSYS_12A410DE&REV_A1 and PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1AD6&SUBSYS_12A410DE&REV_A1 Checking online, these bring up drivers for a Quadro card, which sort of makes sense. Tried installing, obviously it failed. Tried contacting NVidia directly but was useless referring me to one of the third party driver download websites I already tried.
