  1. As a regular viewer of GN, and arguably even a fan (although I try to avoid any type of loyalty as much as possible), it's important to note that the GN fanbase isn't really "wholesome" either. I know that's not what you said, but I felt it was important point to make. I've seen some incredibly sexist and racist comments in the videos. Sadly that's just a massive problem with the tech space anywhere you go, but it's also everyone's responsibility to stand up to. Again, I know you didn't say that the GN fanbase was universally good, but it's important to remember that toxicity exists everywhere in the tech space.
  2. You mean here where he says it's not a sleight, it's just a more complicated issue than has been reported by other people? That doesn't seem smug at all to me, or angry. It's just clearing things up. Also, as a reminder, they ended up being right. PS: I just remembered I took issue with that video myself, but for a very different reason. I didn't like they way they kept using "theory" in place of "hypothesis". Edit: Also I 100% agree that there's nothing wrong with different formats. Entertainment is a good thing. And GN could probably use a little more humor. I just don't think it's "smug".
  3. Steve has literally never claimed to be perfect. Nor has he called anyone out for making errors. The criticisms have been for the actions people take after noticing those errors. It's kinda sad that you think admitting to mistakes and taking actions to fix them is a bad thing.
  4. It happened just a couple of months ago, actually. It's not particularly rare. They usually do this whenever they're not satisfied with the quality of a video. I think the last time it was because there were new details on a story like an hour after they released one of their hardware news videos.
  5. I would say this is why you find him smug. GN content is for education, not entertainment. I wouldn't describe Steve as smug at all. Just focused on information.
  6. Having seen some of the video now, I immediately understand why it was taken down. I don't think there's technically anything wrong with it (at least from the half I've seen), but just because everything is so sensitive right now, all their statements feel like jabs. I don't even think they actually are, but this was NOT the right time for it.
  7. I seriously doubt it. This an entirely different issue, and very much outside of their area of expertise. GN wasn't out to "take Linus down", just provide much needed criticism to their practices, which have been hurting beginners in the tech community. Of course there is the issue of so much of this being unverifiable (even though I completely believe her). Also, as a long time fan of GN, a lot of the fellow fans are just as toxic as the people here throwing insults at Madison. Sometimes the sexist comments on their videos make me sick. Sexism isn't limited to one corner of the tech community, it's a rampant issue. GN has never taken a firm stance against it (to my knowledge at least) so it would be weird to see it happening now.
  8. I didn't think anything could make me feel worse about this situation, but the way hardcore fans are treating Madison actually did it. It's sickening.
  9. This is the crux of the problem. LMG is 100% putting its own corporate profits over factual information for the consumer. Even as a consumer, you seem to be okay with that. Many of us are not. Making less money won't put them out of business. They haven't always been like this.
  10. That's a fair and good point. But again, I think focusing on GN not sending Linus an email completely misses the main point. The main problem with LMG still exists. To avoid a double post I'm adding this. As I said above, that makes a fair point. But again, I think you're ignoring LMG's problem. And as I said, two wrongs don't cancel each other out.
  11. If post count is all that matter (it doesn't), then I've got you beat. This isn't just "making drama", it's constructive criticism. LTT used to have a much higher standard. Those days are gone, but that doesn't mean they can't return. Plenty of people are definitely joining just to leave angry, non-constructive comments, and that sucks. But that doesn't mean that GN isn't right in his criticism. It was a very uncomfortable video for them to make (which was also completely demonetized, as a show of good faith that it's not meant to cause drama for profit), as Steve and Linus are friends. But LMG is a corporation, and they need to be treated as such. As for contacting people before reporting, I don't believe that's necessary or even necessarily standard, but hey, we all have different ideas of journalistic standards). Let's say you're right. It doesn't change anything. The criticism against LMG's actions, especially when there's an easy solution to fix it, are still valid. Maybe some criticism is warranted towards GN for not reaching out, and if so, that should also 100% be brought forward. But two poor choices don't cancel each other out. We as the consumer shouldn't be happy just ignoring consistent problems.
  12. I haven't been on this forum for years as I parted ways due to numerous issues with LTT (all stemming from the focus on growth rather than the consumer) but I was deeply saddened that things have only gotten worse. I'm not here to throw stones, only beg that LMG please take the criticism constructively, rather than just disregard it as some kind of attack. LTT was how I first got involved in tech, back when you were a small channel, so even though I don't watch most of your videos anymore, it still holds meaning to me. I have no desire for you to fail. Just slow down and focus on ethical practices, rather than capital. Yes, companies that focus on the consumer most usually don't grow as fast or make as much money, but you need to decide what's more important to you. You're being treated like a corporation and not an individual because that's what you are. You can't view everything as a personal attack on your character.
  13. I had a 3600X before, it can get pretty hot even with a 240mm cooler. You also need to factor in that every motherboard is going to apply their own default settings to get a performance edge, which for the X parts usually means pushing the clock speed a little higher, resulting in higher temps. I do certainly agree that it shouldn't be THIS hot, but you won't get great results with any 120mm AIO.
  14. There's part of your problem. 120mm AIO's are typically very poor performance, and not really sufficient for a 3600x. However, it should still go down once you close the game. Open up your case and hold the tube. Can you feel a vibration from water moving through it?
  15. None of us can predict the future of course, but the 10400f does not support PCIe 4.0 (meaning you will not get it regardless of the motherboard you buy, unless you also upgrade the CPU) and Gen 3 likely won't be a bottleneck for many years as long as you've got a full x16 slot (the slots that GPUs take up). I would not let that be a factor in your decision.
  16. It depends what you're using it for. That seems like a decent deal to me. You need to be prepared to deal with all the kinks that first generation Ryzen came with though. Especially memory compatibility. As for a motherboard, it depends on the board and what bios version it's on. It makes it quite a bit more complicated. Because AMD promised something they had no idea how to do (supporting all the CPU's on AM4), BIOS updates usually drop support for older CPU'S in favor of new ones. If you want it for gaming, keep in mind that a 2600 or above is generally going to perform better than a 1700x, but with fewer issues. Only do it if you really need those extra cores or can't find any 6 core CPU in that price range.
  17. Yes, most likely some of the Windows partions are still there. Probably the System Reserved, but not the actual C drive. Using Ubuntu to delete all the partions (just leave it as all unallocated space) should clear it up. When you make the usb with Rufus, make sure to select GPT and UEFI, although those *should* be the default. Then for Windows, use the media creation tool to save it as an ISO and use Rufus to make your flash drive doing the same thing.
  18. This is usually caused by the stick being formatted in the wrong way, specifically in MBR. However, this next part throws me off. If you have a Windows Boot Manager partition, that means Windows is already installed or partially installed. So three questions: What happens when you boot it with no USB plugged in? What did you use to make the drive bootable? If you remove the hard drive or SSD from the computer, what happens when you try to boot from the flash drive?
  19. The motherboard chipset isn't. There are some RAM modules that will definitely work at 3600MHz, but not all of them.
  20. What's the exact model of the memory? If it's not on the memory support list for your motherboard, there's no guaranty it will work at such a high frequency.
  21. By 2K do you mean 1440p? Also what refresh rate? But honestly, the answer is probably going to be no. At 8 cores you're already at the maximum that any game will use (the main reason 6 core CPU's perform about the same for games), and the Intel 11 series were garbage anyway so that wasn't a good choice.
  22. There's nothing wrong with your performance. It's actually very good. There will be some variation between all drives, and between tests. You also aren't comparing equal drives. Even if they're both called 860 Evo, the different size drives are all different models.
