If you want a really lightweight distro which will run nicely off a flash drive or even a CD, try DSL (Damn Small Linux). It's very lightweight and somewhat stripped back, but if you're looking to learn command line then it might be a really good option. Here's the project website: http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/ Not sure which kernel they're using in the latest version though.

PC iv'e been planning, Suggestions?

I don't think it's so much that it doesn't like dual rank, just that single rank is faster and as such the infinity fabric performs better with it. Level1 has a great video on memory and Ryzen here if OP wants more info: -
I had a similar problem to this years ago on Vista and Win 7 with a dual 8500 GT setup. Flash video would crash the driver, and iirc some games were affected too. It was most likely driver related as after a while it went away, but then came back again later. Drom memory, the same problem didn't happen on Linux. I suggest you try either a live or a temporary Linux install to see if it bugs out doing similar things on that platform. If so, it could be hardware.

I was being silly. My point was of course there are people who care about the update The old control panel is still available, just hit start and type control panel. There might be some settings only available through the new interface though, I'm not sure.

Nope, all 270+ million Windows 10 users use their computers in the exact same way as you.
-
Does it only happen when you're playing games/doing something GPU intensive? Or does this happen even when the system is near idle?

I'll be ordering the CPU on Monday and will probably build later in the week. I'm checking now before testing because my local store only had one other RAM stick of this type and they weren't planning to get any more in. If I need to swap I should do so before that stick goes into another build. But from what you're saying, I don't need to worry. Thanks again for your help And also thanks to @ARikozuM for your input. I didn't say that earlier.

Oh, yep, whoops - that was indeed Micron! It's 4am here and it's showing haha. I had assumed those were Samsung as well until I googled what Samsung modules look like. It's certainly not the Samsung logo. Yeah, I'd heard that about Samsung and Ryzen too. This is a Ryzen build so if I can confirm these are indeed Samsung chips, I'll stick with them. Thanks for your help! Yeah, as previously stated I thought things might have changed somewhat over the last decade. I'm being extra cautious because I'll be running Ryzen and I know Ryzen can perform a little better if RAM is just right. Thank you for your help!

I don't follow, sorry. Your shortlist is two coolers based around quiet performance, so I assume that is the key feature you are looking for? Not sure what you mean by the performance being about the same. Are you comparing a closed loop water cooler to air cooling? I don't do water cooling for a few reasons, but there's a reason tech like the highest end Vega 64 card comes with water coolers: they do keep things cooler than air-only.

And having different memory chips won't cause issues? I was reading a thread from 2007 on Tech Support Forum about this, and one user gave a very detailed reply which suggests different chips caused problems: http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f210/buy-as-dual-channel-kit-or-2-identical-rams-142281.html#post804991 Of course, a decade has passed since then and modern tech might be different. The ram is G.Skill, but not the fancy stuff. I'm posting from bed (hi from Australia) and the RAM is in another room so I'll have to get back to you on that one sorry!

Given your shortlist, I assume you are going for quiet performance?

Hi everyone, I'm creating this post somewhat cautiously - I'm rather new to this forum and I thiiiiiink I'm posting this question in the right place! If not, please let me know where to repost. I bought two G.Skill memory dimms from a local store during the week for an upcoming build. They were not bundled as part of a kit. Looking at them just now I have noticed the chips on the dimms appear to be made by different manufactureres. One has an "S" in a 45 degree rotated square, while the other has the Memorex logo. The manufacture dates are also different. The product numbers, capacity, speed, and everything else is identical. Obviously I would like to run these sticks in dual channel mode, but that requires identical sticks to work most effectively. Would I run into any problems using these dimms together in dual channel, or do I not need to bother the local store about it? (They gave me a very nice discount, so I don't really want to be /that person/ if I can avoid it.) Thanks in advance for the help!

Gonna purchase this laptop, Need suggestions

What do you mean by "a bit of graphical work"? I ask because 3D rendering and so on might be best done on a desktop if that's an option, and if you plan to use products in the Adobe suite it would be a good idea to check that GPU against the supported cards list for the program/s you use. That list isn't as comprehensive as you might think - Illustrator's "GPU Boost" feature doesn't like the card in my desktop, but is totally fine with the older and much less capabe mobile chip in my laptop! -
iPods and iPads can output digital video signals via the lightning connector and an adaptor. (Apple sells those adaptors for a lower price than I expected, and of course there are cheaper ones elsewhere: https://www.apple.com/au/shop/product/MJVU2ZA/A/apple-hdmi-to-dvi-adapter?afid=p238|savWwW6Kj-dc_mtid_18707vxu38484_pcrid_115761117166_&cid=aos-au-kwgo-pla-btb-product-MJVU2 _ I assume the misguided intention here was that people would run a cable from lightning to mini HDMI via that adaptor or something. Or maybe whoever designed this was even more confused than that.
