  1. I've got a discount on the ASUS PRIME Z370-A so it's cheaper than the one you linked from where I'm buying.
  2. Hi! I've been thinking of upgrading my current build which is an FX8350 with ASUS M5 A97 R2.0 motherboard, but I'm having a hard time deciding between the 8600K with ASUS PRIME Z370-A and 1600X with MSI B350 TOMAHAWK. The Intel with mobo costs about a $100 more but is it worth it? For some games the framerate is about the same while on others there is about a 30fps difference in favor of the 8600K from what I've seen from different benchmarks. Will the gap get closer later down the line or will there be an even bigger difference in the future? I want to play most games at 1080p at max settings as close as possible to 144fps and also VR with the HTC Vive. Right now I have a r9 290x as a GPU but I'm going to upgrade that to a GTX 1080. I play everything from MMOs to FPS and everything in-between so I want to have good performance on a broad range of games. What would you pick in my case and why?
  3. I have a couple of old PCs I'm not using and figured I might put thier hard drives to good use but I'm not really sure how it works. Is it possible for me to put those hard drives in my newest computer and access files first to see if I have something interesting on there to transfer somewhere else before I format it? Or will something go wrong because they have OS installed and they have to be formatted?
  4. So I recently posted asking for help about a motherboard because the PC wouldn't power on. We're about to send it back from where we purchased but wanted to make some things sure first. Can a PC power on without RAM or faulty RAM? Will the fans start running and LEDs light up? Same thing with CPU? Just so I know it's 100% the motherboard that's faulty.
  5. So I tried with the essentials only and nothing still happens.I also tried the PSU in another computer and it worked. Thinking the motherboard might be dead
  6. Thanks! That's good info to know. Yeah, I'm crossing my fingers that's not the case!
  7. Thanks for the link. I'll following along that checklist tomorrow to see if any of those solutions work. I'm pretty sure I got the Power and Reset buttons connected to the right pins, was just unsure if + and - mattered. The Power LEDs were a little confusing though as there was one area that said PLED with two pins and then another area with 3 pins saying PWR_LED. But I guess the power LED doesn't really matter.
  8. I thought the PSU was alright as the GPU was getting power but I'll try it in another computer as well. It doesn't matter what orientation the power button is connected, it just need to be connected to the two correct pins, right? I only need to power button connected to the F Panel just to test how it works? Alright, I'll head over to my friend tomorrow again and try with the essentials only to see if I can get the fans to spin.
  9. Yeah, the GPU is getting power. Edit: Sorry for triple posting. New to this forum.
  10. The GPU is essential with Ryzen? I haven't tried reseating it as it was the part that got power.
  11. We didn't get one of those minispeaker for the motherboard so I don't think we can hear one of those beep codes unfortunately. I'll have to try with the just the essentials tomorrow.
  12. I figured it might be worth to try shorting the pins if the power button is faulty. Essentials are basically just RAM, CPU and power to CPU and motherboard and the power button to the front panel?
  13. Hi! Today I helped my friend build his computer but when everything was assembled we couldn't power it up. The GPU seems to be getting power as there is a small light on it. There doesn't seem to be an LED light on the motherboard so it's hard to know if it is getting power or not. Here are the components: Motherboard: Gigabyte B350 GA-AB350M-HD3 PSU: Fractal Design Integra M 550W Graphics Card: ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 3GB DUAL OC Case: Fractal Design Define R4 CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1500X 3.6 GHz 18MB RAM: Kingston 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4 2400MHz Fury Black SSD: Toshiba OCZ TR200 240GB We have tried replugging the power cables to the cpu and powerboard, reseating the RAM and the power button cable from the front panel. The power led doesn't turn on and no fans are moving. I read that I could try shorting the pins to the power button but how can I do that? Could I just try connecting the two pins with a screwdriver? I really hope the motherboard isn't fault as that would be a pain in the ass.
