    But gaming laptops are awful. 
     
    I'd go with a non-gaming laptop + gaming desktop.

    Personally, I'd either go for a laptop and an actual desktop or straight-up buy a gaming laptop versus going for a laptop with an eGPU, especially considering portability of the motherfucker.

    They generally are, but if I had to pick from either a gaming laptop or a laptop with an eGPU, I'd probably go for the former. Although, to be fair, Team Fortress 2 doesn't exactly need that great of a PC to run I guess.

    the deal with a gaming laptop is battery life isnt as good as the one you have now. You will need to have it plugged in all the time. I prefer to use a desktop for work
