  1. I would love to see an update on the framework laptop, specifically when it comes to the diy community! Framework recently divulged a whole bunch of information on the firmware and hardware on the motherboard for their laptop. This has re-energized the community but has also lead to a bunch of questions, many of which require more time, money and in depth knowledge than most of the community members have. For example, the pin out of the embedded display port (edp) was released and shows that it supports digitizer inputs. There has been a lot of speculation on 3rd party displays that might be compatible for diy tablet builds and so forth. Unfortunately due to the other unknowns such as firmware limitations, and just the general lack of understanding of edp compatibility, no one has been willing to risk their cash for testing. other Examples are custom IO modules, personalized hardware, building batteries for the main board and so on. I love the framework team and how open they have been but I feel they have too much on their hands to deal with these types of questions, especially in community forms. LTT is in a unique position where they have the know how as-well as the ability to directly query the framework team if issues do occur. This video could also be helpful for explaining the basic principles behind connections and interfaces in most laptops. I’m sure most people have seen videos of making a monitor from an old laptop screen, but have you ever wondered why all the controllers are so screen specific If the majority use the same communication protocol (edp)? I don’t exactly know but I would love to find out!
  2. Hey y'all I am college student using an OG Surface Book, which I love, but unfortunately it has been slowing down as all computers do. I also have desk PC acting as a work station allowing me to use more powerful CAD and graphic design software with larger files. I would like to have an array of external monitors including a touch and active pen display for graphic design. After looking around, I have been unable to find such a display in my price range. In short, I would like to use my Surface Book in tablet mode to act as this display through a wired connection. The wired connection is important as the latency through wireless screen projection is too high. I would also like to have a feature to backup all of the data on the Surface Book to the work station and transfer files between the two as I would like to be able to modify work needed for group projects and classes on my workstation while retaining their portability. This feature would also be nice as I could declutter the laptop, removing any programs not necessary for school and hopefully improve its performance. Are there any pre made software or tricks to make this project achievable? I am open to other ideas such as upgrading my Laptop to something with more CPU power and setting up an external GPU and storage system but please keep in mind that my budget is around 500$.
  3. So should I get a new power brick that is 19v 5a instead of 19v 3.7a?
  4. My new laptop is not charging when the CPU is under load... I think? When doing normal work on my computer there is not a problem, but as soon as I start up a graphics intensive program such as a video game or Creo, the computer starts to switch from charging to not charging. when it does this it beeps and the screen dims and un-dims. I think that this could be that the charger is not providing enough amps, but it is the charger that came with the laptop. Any suggestions or ideas? it also starts switching when starting a new program. I know that it is not the adapter that is the issue because I do not have to wiggle or move it at all to get it working again. Thanks!
