  1. Unfortunately, it's no longer possible to legally buy windows 7. But any office software should run on windows 10 no problem. Backwards compatibility is one thing Windows does really well.
  2. I don't know of many OSes that predate 2000, but BeOS might be interesting. AmigaOS too, if you can find an old version anywhere.
  3. One simple thing you can try is search the menu for "additional drivers" and choose the proprietary gpu driver that's (probably) there. Additionally, if you're not too invested in Ubuntu, I've had success with gaming on my 960m laptop with Manjaro Linux (https://manjaro.org/). It comes with some of the best out-of-the-box graphics drivers I've seen on Linux. Best of luck!
