  1. I have a 3COM 2924 and am in the console CLI, everywhere says there will be a prompt during startup saying "press ctrl+B to enter extended boot menu". However I get no such prompt and it just boots then asks for username and password, which are not the default I might add. Anybody have an idea?
  2. SOLVED: "DP 1.4" cable that I bought seems to actually be a 1.2 ? so after changing the setting on the monitor it works... Feel stupid for asking this but I'm stuck and tired of rebooting. Got a new monitor and it does not display anything until the login screen. Have another monitor that works just fine and also uses display port so I'm not sure whats up. Have tried most of the 'fixes' people have suggested but to no avail. My only guess as to why it is not working would be because its a 21:9? (asus mobo)
  3. Figured it out, was a combo of nordvpn being stupid even though it was not using it and I did not have lan dhcp setup correctly like @Electronics Wizardy mentioned. Networking is not very easy when you have been up all night.
  4. Cant speak for others but you can with comcast's, I can get to it on my phone right now with 10.0.0.1
  5. lan is 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.100 My computer shows the ip, gateway and subnet to be correct I have it running on a dell T320 It might be worth mentioning that I just realized I cant access my isp router web gui either so it is probably a pc problem...
  6. Trying to get pfsense setup but I cant access the web gui. Not too sure what has gone wrong since everybody seems to say pfsense "just works".
  7. So this has been driving me nuts for awhile. My computer will commonly turn itself on when its in sleep mode, I know it can happen some because of updates and what not but it has become an everyday thing. Believe me or not but it will also turn itself on when its powered off (psu on of course). I have things like wake on lan lan disabled. So what else could be the cause of this, should I bring it to a church?
  8. Decided to sell a bit and my budget is now about $1000. Anybody have input on these or have any others I should take a second look at? Asus ProArt PA34VC ViewSonic VP3481 LG 34WK95C-W Acer predator X34 LG 34GK950G / LG43GK950F
  9. Like I mentioned a bit higher up in the post my photo editing is just an extreme hobby so although I want the best color accuracy I can get I know I will have to surrender a bit (or a lot) for price and response/frequency. I dont need anything professional grade, even 99% sRGB I would be happy with if the rest of the monitor specs were good.
  10. Looking for a new monitor since mine is starting to die, its just a 32" 1920x1080 60hz vizio tv. Looking for something 32" or more depending on the aspect ratio, also NEEDS to be vesa mount compatible. I would like good color, brightness, contrast and what not since I do photo editing, but its just a very extreme hobby and not a business so if its not perfect I can live with it. I also game, mostly iRacing, assetto corsa and BF4, so a decent response time and 120hz would be nice to have but again not required. I am fine with 1080p, would be ok with a 2k/2k ultrawide but 4k is a bit much considering I only have a 1070. Done a lot of looking on my own but I get lost in all the different model numbers and I can find very little that is a good in between and not strictly made for gaming or productivity. zIdeally I would like to spend $300 but if there is one that checks all my boxes I could go to say $600? Thanks in advance for any help
  11. I have a lian li o11 dynamic and want to squeeze more HDDs into it, has anybody done a relativity clean mod to fit more in?
  12. Excuse my potential ignorance, but like the title says, why is 3dmark a thing especially for competition? For the last hour I have been pushing both my cpu and gpu far past clocks that I know will immediately crash in other benchmarks and some games.
  13. Being that I can now build my new computer since my case finally arrived. Any recommendations for what I should do with my storage drives? I cant wipe them because they have all my data on them. Just scan and pray?
  14. Sounds good, luckly I am building a new computer so I was already mentally prepared to start off fresh. I mostly just dont want to start up a new computer with malware already on it. As a side note though, as I mentioned I removed chrome. A bunch of malware then popped up and showed to be in the chrome file. Just did a safe mode scan and nothing was detected. Running it once more over the whole computer.
  15. To put it simply I got lazy which led to my computer become flooded with malware. I seem to have gotten rid of most of it but there is still something holding the door open as almost every scan I do I am still catching some. Also I had reason to believe something had gotten into chrome so I compleatly removed it after securing my account. To sum up what i have done for the most part. Run malwarebytes both in normal and safe mode with both the normal scan and a custom one scanning all of my drives (so much fun waiting 3 hours). Run windows offline scan, run windows malicious software removal tool, cleared temp files and manual removal of suspicious files. The one thing I have not tried yet out of pure laziness is booting up ubuntu and running ClamTK. Also i have one restore point from a few hours before this all happened but it fails each time I try. Im fine with installing a new windows but its kinda pointless to do unless I can be certain there is no crap in my personal files. Anybody have some helpful suggestions?
  16. decided on the 9900k because otherwise I know I would be spending wayyyy too much money. Also @porina check out the HP S700 drives. They are not the fastest or the cheapest but oh my god their endurance is insane. Edit, nvm looking at reviews there have been tons of faulty ones.
  17. Its a difficult answer. If you are just wanting to just play games like forza, logitech g27/29/920 are your goto. If you are wanting to play more 'competitive better simulation' games like assetto corsa, f1 and such, I would really recommend getting a mid range thrustmaster like a TX/T300 with the t3pa pedals. With the nicer wheels dont be afraid to look at used ones because they are better build quality (less likely to brake) and usually people take better care of them. If you are wanting to be even mildly competitive I would absolutely recommend getting a decent set of pedals like the t3pa or better even if it means getting a cheaper wheel because good braking = lots faster and less walls. But take everything with a grain of salt because there are people out there playing on ancient non ffb wheels who are in the top 5%. It just depends on how into it you want to be.
  18. Not sure on an exact fix, but have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling its drivers? Also maybe try using hid guardian again to see if there is some setting in there that is messing it up. Which specific 458 wheel do you have (link would be best). I presume the Ferrari 458 Italia pc/xbox 360? https://www.thrustmaster.com/en_UK/products/ferrari-458-italia
  19. With my personal experience, if you are getting big fps drops randomly its because of the cpu. Vs constant low fps which would 90% of the time be gpu. Sorta like everyone else I would recommend you get a new cpu and board. I assume you are on a budget so maybe get something like a 6700k, 7700k or 5820k? Or of course ryzen as they do have a pretty damn good price/peformance ratio. But before you do buy/sell anything have task manager open with the performance tab up while you are gaming and right after you get a big fps drop look at your cpu and gpu performance. That should give you at least a basic Idea of what is going on.
  20. I have sorta given up on competitive times because its either really expensive gear or high end overclocking like what you did. 1t is my goal just because the list of people who have done it is pretty small. Same with 250b and 500b. It will very likely be different where you live, but my old school district does a surplus sale every year so thats where I get my server stuff for dirt cheap. On ebay you can pick up things like Dell powervault MD1200's with drives for reasonably cheap.
  21. http://www.numberworld.org/y-cruncher/ scroll down 3/4 of the page and there is a fastest times section broken down into digits and just below that there is his email where you can send him your validation files. Mine are the only sean on there a few might be listed as medderx... Old ones are with my 5820k and I did larger ones like 100b with my xeon probably a year ago. Here is his 2¢ on SSDs http://www.numberworld.org/y-cruncher/guides/swapmode.html#ssds
  22. I've considered ryzen, although its a lot cheaper option I would like to stick with what I know and some of the things I do it is quite a bit slower than intel at. Ive done it both from a raid card and individually addressing the drives in y-cruncher. It was about 100MB/s faster with the latter, at least in the built in I/O analysts tool. I have also run it quite a bit on my SSD's, I cant prove it but I am pretty sure I have slowed them down quite a bit from running it one too many times. Have you submitted any of your times to numberworld.org or just hwbot?
  23. Yeah thats what the server hardware is for, I have two dell R510's and a few dozen 15k sas drives. Not sure yet if I want to cluster them together or just use them as storage arrays because although one is 2x x5675 and the other is 2x 4 core they are still pretty slow. Plus I dont want to buy more ram for them, though I am not sure about how much ram matters in swap mode. I will probably still need a jbod if I want reasonable i/o though.
  24. Yes the 9900k is enough probably 85% of the time for me. An x series or dual xeon build would like you said save time, but also add to the fun factor in their own ways. The 16 PCIe lane thing is sorta a straw man argument to be fair, its enough for my gpu and the chipset adds 4 so i can have a nvme drive. But If I want to add anything Im in theory out of lanes, even though I could just drop my gpu to 8x. For the memory lanes its not so much bandwidth I am concerned about (for benchmarks it is) but I am stuck at a max of 64GB of ram. Yeah that was my thread, made this one because I realized 9900k is an ok option and then I also made the xeon impulse buy so ? I am actually planning on keeping my current system running in my back room with one of the 2698's in it and have it hooked up to some server hardware I have to reach my goal of 1 trillion on y-cruncher.
