i might have to treat my 2012 macbook pro to a new battery...

i've had this machine for like 1.5 years at least now, and it's served me well, but the battery wasn't amazing when i bought it and now it's really showing the age and the hundreds of cycles on it.

yesterday just having it sitting for about an hour on battery talking to one of my best friends on skype it dropped from 100% to 35%.

i'll wait for the WWDC keynote, if Apple doesn't drop it from support and i can get another year of updates out of it i'll swap out the battery, if they drop it i'll sell it and buy a newer model macbook air i think. haven't quite decided yet...

    It baffles the mind that People who understand computer tech still give Money to apple.

    @Praesi that's called preference lol.

    my alternatives:

    Windows 10 - no. just no. not for things i rely on.

    Linux - cool but no app support for the things i need.

    why would i not buy a Mac in this case? it's ideal for my use and i absolutely love this computer.

    @VenomZ_ we tried discord but for some reason all our webcams are broken if we try to video call. skype is the only thing that's worked for us.

    The 2012 Pro is still supported on Catalina!?

    Even more miffed they cut my old 2014 air from support.

    @SenKa hell yes it is. don't forget the 2012 13" Pro was sold all the way from 2012 to 2016, it's not even classified as vintage yet by apple.

    The 2014 air was sold until 2017...

    @SenKa you appear to be misinformed, Catalina will work on MacBook Airs from 2012 or higher.

    No I knew they worked on Catalina, but supposedly it was going to be cut *after* catalina. Though, I cant find it anymore.

    @SenKa that was probably speculation. Apple does not release those numbers. it would be damn stupid of them to start unsupporting devices now though, as we're in the middle of pandemic time and many people including me can't afford to just replace a computer for €400
